At the Grudge Cup golf, Finnerty was very amiable and approachable, as were both sets of players and DS. Its his erratic and raging bull type behaviour on the bench that does not endear him to many, while on the ice he was a very good player, but had some dark moments. A real Jeckyll and Hyde.

If you listened to Mansfield 103.2 tonight and face off Thursday (and you can listen again later tonight on the Xtra) The Steelers are in the process of finding a new coach - but they want somebody with experience according to the interview with David Simms; it could take up to 6 weeks to find a new coach I think thats bull. They've got a player coach signed so I heard.

According to Dave Simms a short while ago, the person appointed will not be a player coach, will not be a former Steelers player and will be from outside the UK. Dave Matsos anyone?

Seeing that Simms and O"Connor were part of the group that dumped Matsos I doubt he would even consider an offer plus his family is now older and settled in Canada. Do not see it as him

Really ironic that he is knowing what he knows about this seasons issues. Maybe he is the voice of reason which never seemed to be his strong suit given his fair weather attitude to ownership.

According to Dave Simms.............. And stop right there. His nickname DS the BS is well deserved. Not saying he is peddling the usual here but a large pinch of salt may be worthwhile.

Smith doesn't renew the coach,Simms agrees, the 6wk search now starts sounds like a plan to me. Blind leading the blind. The Panthers have nothing to worry about for next year with these geart hockey minds leading the way.

The 6 weeks could also mean that they have someone in place and their season finishes in 6 weeks time?

What about Neil ABEL is he staying there. He's a really genuine guy, a hockey guy who wants to win like we all do.

True but that would mean he is in the playoffs in NA and most teams in that position are not terminating coaches. No I believe they have no plan as to what they are doing are even what they want in a coach. Not the best hockey minds at work here.

gump always posts un-founded claims about the ownership. Has no one realised this yet? But how are we to judge who is being more truthful/accurate? Gump with his (vague) claims or you saying he's wrong? Why should we believe you and not him? Works both ways... I'm not saying he's wrong. I know absolutely nothing about the inner-workings of the Steelers other than what I read on the internet (and that is by accident, I really don't care). I'm just saying I've noticed he constantly posts things that are anti-Steelers ownership but without actually backing any of it up. I'm just wondering how he knows all of this information, and also why not many people are questioning the apparent truths that he keeps posting.

A six week process to find a new coach would mean them having someone in by mid to late May, plenty of time to build a team from there, so what's the problem? Taking your time to get the right man for the job would seem like sensible ownership to me.
We say consistency was the key for us and so should be echoed by them, but Corey has kept the silverware flowing while he's been here, despite some average seasons league wise. If he'd put up the two seasons Finnerty has, do we really think we'd have kept hold of him? Let's not kid ourselves.

Only Meyers comes up to scratch which speaks volumes for the quality of the others! This is a player who wasn't deemed good enough for you but is the best of the bunch.

I wouldn't say Meyers was judged as not good enough, more that Weaver was a better fit for the way Neilson wanted to go/spend his budget.
There'd be nothing to stop Smith, Abel & Simms signing Brits either, a new foreign coach - which DS seemed to be suggesting - isn't going to know a huge amount about British players anyway. "Top" brits aren't really likely to be moving around a lot, not forgetting that you had one of the top guys in Shields, and Finnerty fell out with him (as I recall).
I just think Gump is being overly critical, if you'd canned Finnerty and immediately hired someone else, would the accusation then have been acting in haste?
Plus we all know how it goes when you lot seem to be on the down slope, you end up with a Ben Simon type and win again. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

And yet another well measured and deeply thought out contribution to the debate! It's a Panthers forum Doug. What do you expect? If you don't like to see a comment like this every now and then it's probably best to stick to a pro Steelers forum...

A little twitter exchange in the wake of Finnertys departure. Bob Westerdale @westerdale10 “If when I signed Pecker I’d known he'd spend every day at the all-you-could-eat buffet I’d have thought again." Missing @finner16 already Phil Cooper Phil Cooper cooperphil156 05 Apr @westerdale10 @finner16 Ah Chubby Pecker - he didnt last long. Yotes you maybe right however he only had one year at a compareable budget according to Simms not two as stated given that he probably deserved one more year to complete the re tooling needed. If they take 6 wks then they run the risk of loosing the time frame when most Brits and top end import contacts are made. Most players/agents will not consider a team until they know who is coaching

Probably nothing, but Lepine has just tweeted ' lepine28: Congrats Doug on the steelers coach job'. Christiansen? How would Lepine know?

The daily star are reporting that he will be appointed today. Sideways move for Christiansen, very odd.

Odd move unless he's taking over from Thommo as Simms bed warmer
