That was totally awesome.
It was great to be there. A really emotional moment thanks to his reaction and a wonderful way to finish the presentation.

pretty obvious what the team think of their coach by their reaction on ice for the announcement. At one time for many Corey was like Marmite, but christ he delivered for us, well earned honour in my view, can we now also retire Gary's mike

Well done Corey, his reaction to having his shirt retired, was certainly not that of an arrogant person, as has sometimes been levelled towards him. I personally think he deserved the shirt being retired on the merits of his playing career alone, so the issue of whether the shirt should be retired for his coaching achievements as well, was not even a consideration for me.

Loved it, well done Corey and well done to the club. He won the league, still on for the slam, what more do you want? Not sure what they'll do when Corey completes the dynasty of domination.
There are others who deserve shirt retirements, maybe this will happen too now.

With this now happening, I think I might hang onto his first jersey that he wore when playing for us. Means so much more now to have it.
Congrats Corey, very well earned as much hard work has gone into him producing a championship winning team. Good job.

Think of it this way, how many fans can say they have a gamer from a Cup Final of a legend whose jersey has now been retired? I'd say you own a piece of history there and if you have no need for the money then you should hang on to that. It's value can only increase.

Assuming the great man stays on as coach, what happens if he's still registered as a player for emergencies. What shirt would he wear. Or was this a subtle way of saying 'we want you to retire as a player' ?? Anyway, it's fully deserved, his performances and the commitment he showed as a player fully merit the decision to retire the shirt in his honour.

On the OS, there's a video of Corey talking about it and GM says if he plays, he'll wear the 77 again. It's only other people that can't wear it.

But the first he ever wore when he came here, it's pretty cool actually.

Is there to be any recognition of Strachan's contribution to winning the elusive League title?

Is there to be any recognition of Strachan's contribution to winning the elusive League title? His league winners medal, coach Corey singing his praises, recognition from the fans and the standing ovation he got last night? Sheffield seem to think it was all Strachs - granted he played a big part but it's insulting to Corey to suggest he is the main reason we won

I wasn't suggesting it was all Strachan but, Corey hadn't managed to do it on his own in previous years. The first League win sice 1956 is a big deal and Strachan was obviously a big part of it. A nod to that might have been nice, over and above the usual plaudits.

We all love the combo of rick and Corey. What I find baffling is steeltalks reaction to this news - saying things like "he's not done enough to deserve this" or "he's not fit to lace the others skates" Quite frankly, this is a Panthers decision and judging by the players and fans reaction last night, one we all support and are behind.

Obviously the grapes up there are even more sour than usual. Yet another reflection of the sense of entitlement that seems to be more prevalent up there than anywhere else (with the possible exception of Belfast). Some of them just can't accept that they weren't the best, so feel they have to try to tarnish our accomplishments any way they can. Clutching at straws in doing so, too. Sad, really... especially for those in the Steelers fan base we know to be decent types... they have to live in that environment. Poor sods.
