Young defenceman joins Stars Published: 23/07/2011 at 19:22 After the announcement that defenceman Craig Mitchell was to miss the forthcoming 2011/2012 season through injury, Dundee CCS Stars have moved quickly to fill the position on the roster when they secured the signature of young Scotsman, Steven Chalmers from Braehead Clan. Kirkcaldy born Steven, who will be 19 years old in August, made his Elite League debut for the the Braehead side last season. Prior to this he played his hockey in the Ontario Hockey Academy in Canada and has also represented Great Britain in the World Championship at under 20 level. CCS Stars' head coach, Dan Ceman said, "I'm very happy to bring another young, hungry player to Dundee. Steven is a player with a lot of potential and a strong work ethic. He gained some invaluable experience last year with Braehead. Steven has worked extremely hard in the gym this summer so that he will be able to physically compete on a consistent basis at the Elite League level." Chalmers added, "I am very excited to be joining the Dundee CCS Stars. This is an amazing opportunity for me to be given the chance to develop as a player. I can't wait for the season start and to join up with my new team-mates and coaches. I am also looking forward to meeting the Dundee fans." dundeestars.com/news/news_item.asp?NewsID=481for all player signings and players leaving EIHL teams visit www.hockeynetuk.co.uk and look in player movement and signings section

Scott Matzka will not come, Brad Smyth replaces! The arrival of American Scott Matzka in the Penguins team has been marked recently by many twists involuntary, sustained by both the player and the club Morzine. Indeed, the record of the recruit from across the Atlantic, who signed his contract with the HCMA early April, was marked, if not undermined, by insurance problems related to the wife of Scott, pregnant, and that neither the U.S. nor France can provide in full. Without insurance to cover any possible risk related to pregnancy, the couple had to cancel his visit to France. Both parties - the player and the club Morzine - have therefore decided to give up, to their great regret, to see Scott Matzka join the ranks of the Penguins. The arrival of the American is perhaps only a postponement for the next season, once the player ... became a father! That said, the HCMA turned to one of the best CV ever met in our village station, namely Brad Smyth. This beautiful Canadian career, having evolved in the NHL, out of a lackluster season - compared to its level - assigned to the Belfast Giants to the role of playmaker, he is not at all before to a good end of season with Fassa, Italy, but still below expectations and potential. Age (38 years) some progress in this attack does not stop to be in amazing physical shape, as has been hinted at his last physical tests, and his motivation is intact. It's a goalscorer, race of the great, who has left his mark on the division AHL, including the 1995-1996 season. Brad Smyth is indeed one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the AHL, winning a Calder Cup, but also a title in Finland, SM-Liga. He was captain of some of the AHL teams and has shown great consistency throughout his career. A player on the whole rather quiet, but effective. A real pro and a great worker. A Morzine-Avoriaz, it is likely to be associated with a real "game maker", ie the Finn Toni Koivunen. Note that in internal HCMA, Brad Smyth has agreed to assist in minor hockey, helping to train young club (Brad speaks French, and for children, it will be very lucky!). This underscores both the player's mentality and the desire to keep the HCMA within the family structure near the club the best mood possible. To sum up, Brad Smyth is a huge player with a remarkable passage in the NHL, but that has not ended his career! It wants to prove to the HCMA Magnus and his beautiful remains. It should be the leader of the Penguins, whose whole club needs, on and off the ice. www.hcma.fr/index.php?option=com_flexicontent&view=items&cid=50:actualites-elite&id=1116:scott-matzka-ne-viendra-pas-brad-smyth-le-remplace-&Itemid=100017for all player signings and players leaving EIHL teams visit www.hockeynetuk.co.uk and look in player movement and signings section

Seems very early to be touting this but the Giants squad looks very good IMO. Injury permitting I would say they are the team to beat..

The hockey gods were looking down on us August 4, 2011 The hockey gods looked down on us well, Says Finnerty Steelers head coach has signed his final player ahead of the 2011-12 EIHL season, capturing impressive offensive defenceman Steve Birnstill. Birnstill has spent the last three seasons in Denmark, two with Frederikshavn and last year with Esbjerg where he led his team in scoring for a defenceman. “I think the hockey Gods were looking down on us these last two weeks” said Finnerty “we waited out for the best players we could and we have landed two excellent D men that will solidify our team “Birnstill came to us late in the day. He was hoping to return to Denmark but money is tight there right now and the UK became an option. We jumped on him as soon as we found out he was available “Signing a player like him gives us options, another offensive D man is always useful, another good Powerplay guy, another big solid D man, he ticks lots of boxes for us “I was a little worried how the D would look a couple of weeks ago, I lost a few nights sleep but after making these last two signings i wouldn’t swap our D for any other in the league. Our policy of patience has paid off” Steelers open their season with an exhibition game against Cardiff Devils at the Motorpoint Arena on 27th August as part of the Festival of Hockey celebrations marking the clubs 20th Birthday blog.sheffieldsteelers.co.uk/2011/08/04/the-hockey-gods-were-looking-down-on-us/for all player signings and players leaving EIHL teams visit www.hockeynetuk.co.uk and look in player movement and signings section

Joe Myers returns to the roster The Cardiff Devils are extremely pleased to announce the re-signing of backup goaltender Joe Myers. Bench Coach Neil Francis says: "Bringing back Joe for his 5th year was a no-brainer. We couldn't be happier with how Joe contributes to the team and the way he goes about his role. He is ever improving as a netminder and his stats last season of over a 90% save percentage and just over 2 goals per game average is really impressive for someone that went into most of his playing time cold." Head Coach Gerad Adams continued the praise of the much-liked Myers: "Joe has built up a great partnership with Stevie Lyle and its really important to have that that chemistry in a netminding duo. Stevie loves having Joe around to fire him up for matches and as a sounding board when he needs advice. There can't be a bigger compliment than to say that Joe has earned the respect of all his team-mates with his hard work, good attitude and reliability when called upon. Joe epitomises the phrase 'dressing room guy' as his upbeat personality and selfless attitude rubs off on others." "Joe's aim this year has to be to earn some starts and if he continues in developing the way he has over the last number of years there is no reason why he can't." www.cardiffdevils.com/news/joe-myers-returns-to-the-roster/for all player signings and players leaving EIHL teams visit www.hockeynetuk.co.uk and look in player movement and signings section
