Kane and Briere are a bit busy right now, but once the Stanley Cup is over I am sure Corey will be talking to them. Duncan Keith has relatives in Derbyshire, perhaps it will be him

I think this signing is a class act by the looks of it. His stats are good and looks like a grafter. I think this is a signing we needed. I see he prefers to play centre- but i know corey tried to get Bendict from Belfast last season. He shoots left and also plays in the centre and would be a fantastic signing to finish our forwards. I know I would be thrilled to snap him up or Gallent of course!

Maybe people were hoping for a guy who's played higher than the East Coast (4 games at AHL level I know, but 0 pts)? I'm neither underwhelmed or going hoopla about this guy, he looks a decent piece to the puzzle but that's it so far for me. Out of the top 5 point scorers this year in the EIHL only one of them has played in the AHL. Year before that only 2 of the top 5 point scorers played in the AHL even though DAB only played in 5 AHL games and Adam Calder played in 9, anyway my point is that you don't have to of played in the AHL/NHL to be a top player in this league

Fair point Bill, it was just an example though. My point is people should be allowed to express their feelings on a signing whatever they are, without the usual plethora of "some of you wouldn't be happy with Gretzky" style comments.

scored number 1 by driving the net, and a nice play for number 5, looks to have some skills and speed

Can't believe I feel the need to justify AN OPINION based on career stats....anyway....
The most encouraging thing I've read are the comments from the fan of his previous team. Other than that he looks like another "wait and see" signing - yes he could tear the league apart...but he may not. Problem is, we've got so many "wait and see" signings.
I wouldn't have been "massively, massively underwhelmed" had he been our first signing, but with the rest of the team we've got, I was expecting 3 big, big names to finish the roster off.
His full career stats don't overwhelm me particularly and, despite what people say, you can very often pick the league winners based on the players on paper. This time last year I said that Coventry would win the league, purely based on the team they'd signed.

From a Cyclone fan last season: "Sproater certainly was a big piece of the puzzle these last two years. Like MLF stated, he'll do just about anything coach asked him to do. He's not a big fighter, but he'll be the first one in to defend a teammate, never backing away from a confrontation. Solid two-way guy that takes care of his end. And even though he had the most goals in the post-season, he's just as likely to pass to get someone else the goal; whatever it takes to make it happen.
He's also a great guy off the ice, starting his own non-profit organization, Hockey Players for Kids, that helps support professional hockey players getting organized and getting involved in their local community to help kids in underprivileged areas learn teamwork and spending time with sick kids in hospitals.
He's a great inspiration and he will be truly missed here in Cincinnati. He works his butt off and deserves nothing but great success and support. Thanks Sproater, for everything! Cheers!"

I'm some what mystified as to why he's a centre? He 100% played on the wing last season and his centre infact was Barret Ehgoetz.. Its interesting Adam looking at his stats that despite argubably having more sucess in the EIHL than Sproat, hes never turned out for the AHL in the last few seasons. HL

Enjoy reading what everyone thinks on here about our new signings
I also have a look at what others are saying to get a "balanced" view
I took a look at the "steelers" forum and all the comments are that this is a good signing for Panthers
I expected them to be slagging him off but they are not so that tells you something I think
Also I read that the Braehead Clan are about to announce a signing who will get Penner and Voth very worried

Can't believe I feel the need to justify AN OPINION You don't have to justify it. Just don't expect everyone (anyone, whatever) to agree with it.

This, to me, is far more telling than any amount of stats. Stats can give you an idea of a player's capabilities (I particularly like the +30 rating) but they can also be very deceptive. One league is not like another. But direct eyewitness testimonies like the above? That gives me a lot more confidence in this signing. Yes, like many others, this will be a 'wait and see'... but the indications are all positive. For those stating they are "underwhelmed" - why? For those saying that he's not a replacement for Mann or McAslan - why? For those bemoaning the fact that he's not a 'big name' - why? We've had big names... they haven't won us the one trophy we really want. And as good as McAslan, Mann, etc undoubtedly have been (and yes, I'd liked to have seen them back as well) - the truth is that big names alone don't win championships. A team wins championships. And if this guy contributes as much as it appears he might towards building a winning team, then I'll happily take him over a superstar any day. When it comes to recruitment, I still have to go with that famous quote from Herb Brooks - "I'm not looking for the best players, I'm looking for the right ones". Superstars alone don't win trophies, teams do. If Corey is building a proper team, one that is more about mutual support and working together than individual showboating - you know, like all the Coventry fans say their team is every year (and as much as I dislike their attitude much of the time, they've got a point about the Blaze's success) - then I for one am all for it. Like I said, this signing is a wait and see. But it's a wait that's a little more hopeful than it was yesterday, I think.

Also I read that the Braehead Clan are about to announce a signing who will get Penner and Voth very worried After doing some research and talking to a few people(I swore to them I wouldn't say who it was) I think I have managed to figure out who this player is, I could of course be completely wrong about it and the player probably will not end up signing up for braehead or anyone in the EIHL but if he does then I would be bloody scared if I was Penner, Voth or Mcmorrow. We are talking about a guy here who is a ticket selling machine, the pinnacle of entertainment. Now I didn't follow Ice Hockey too much when Barry Niecker was here but when I started following the panthers he was in his last year and I dont know whether he is a legend of the panthers or whether people didn't like him but we are now looking at Barry Niecker number 2 . Clan Fans if this guy signs for you then you are in for a treat but TBH i think this deal is very unlikely to happen ;D

Braehead were always going to invest heavily in a genuine heavyweight nutcase, lets be honest it's hockey, it's Glasgow, they are a new franchise... they'd be mental not to do it!

You only have to look around the NIC now, seven years after he last played for us and there are still people wearing shirts with his name on the back. Since I read the Penner and Voth will be scared comment I've been looking forward to finding out who there signing, hopefully it will be a major tough guy!!

Two new replies have been added from Cincinatti Fans when asked by a panther (presumably from this forum) what to expect from Sproat
I think the first two replies are already on here
The latest one are again positive though:
"Honestly? I think he is the glue to the two titles. Although not the best talent on either squad, he produced the most in big games. "
"cincy got him in dec 2008 when fresno folded and he flourished under chuck webers style of hoclkey. he will do what ever it takes and is playing so well now. he is not flashy but grinds it out and is so civic minded with HP4K group. you in the uk will enjoy watching him play. i know you will get many new fans from cincy so we can follow how he does. good luck and take care of "our" boy. "
I also saw he has a twitter page:
"Swear to god, just saw a F'ing English Bulldog ride a skateboard. And he was good!!!"

Just had a comment on the TCW article on Sproat's signing from a Cincinnati fan. "One hell of an acquisition is putting it mildly. Sproater puts up those numbers, never wanting the recognition. He’s a goal scorer, but is also a defensive forward. Playing two-way hockey and never complaining. He’ll do anything that’s asked of him. And he wants his team to win above all. He wants everyone to be successful. He’s one of the hardest-working, intelligent and generous people I’ve ever met. Kudos on a great signing! We’ll all be keeping tabs on him from over here!"
