interesting signing, sounds like he has played at a good level, i'll wait and see before passing judgment like some seem to be doing.
i love the way people are constantly comparing players to last years departing players and saying we haven't replaced them, last years team didn't win us the league, we need a new team. and thats what we are getting. just because Bergin fought and this guy doesn't, doesn't mean we need a carbon copy as his replacement, we have others in different positions that can make up for whats been "lost" as you put it.

What were you expecting? some 150 game NHL er again I don't think it really matters if we'd signed Gretzky in his prime mate some people are on a single track road to moansville and a nuclear warhead wont divert them from that course. Tell me about it

That's a cracking and very valid point, for whatever reason it didn't quite work last season to the point we wanted it to, besides why would we need someone to fight as much as Bergy did when we've signed Penner? This guy looks like a hungry player who will put up the numbers but, crucially, will do his bit defensively. It'll be really interesting to see how this team fits together come September. I hope we are continuing with the policy of getting the guys together as early as possible before the season starts to start that gelling process so we can hit the ground running come the first game.

As an outsider I have to say how bewildered I am when read how fans are underwhelmed by this signing. This guy is a two way forward with some very decent stats and would be welcome in almost all other Elite League teams.
I guess Nottingham who always spend big are used to high profile players and will no doubt have one of, if not the highest budget team next season yet again but despite all the years of being big earners your trophy cabinet is not as shiny as it should be. Maybe more workaholic style players whose track record isn’t as great on paper is what the Panthers need in their line up this year. Nottingham are too big a club not to have won a league title in so long.

Agree with you there Koop, having some two way players is a must, had we had a couple last year maybe we could of shut down teams when leading in the last few minutes. Please stop writing people off before we have even seen them play!

What one fan said on ECHL forums about Sproat..
"Isn't afraid to stick his nose in there, gets in front of the net, he will do just about anything a coach would ask a whole team to do. I think he was the glue to the Cyclones puzzle, they might be interesting without him now.
But this is shocking and kind of a bummer for those on the opposition who actually appreciate players who play like him "
sounds good to me

Underwhelmed? This guy scored at about the same rate as McAslan in the ECHL. What's the chuffing problem?!

I have no idea sambo - we could sign Crosby, Ovi, Sedin twins and Pronger and we'd still have moaners

I think this guy looks like a cracking signing. The thing I like most is that we's a self-described workaholic - that is exactly the type of player the Panthers need to sign. Very pleased.

Welcome to Nottingham Dustin.
I think he looks a good signing, and seems to have a very good work ethic having looked for info on the net.
Two left to sign, and both could potentially be top end players (although I guess they wont be good enough for some.....)

Ha. So many people underwhelmed by a bunch of stats and little else. How's that any different to those who read his stats and Gary's bit on the website and get the bunting out?

Looks a hell of a signing, delighted! Im disappointed its not Gallant as it looks like he will be centre but thats just probably sentiment.
The people who I bother listening to rate this guy, and thatll do for me. Being a huge part in winning the cup in the coast, then coming straight to the UK having iced in the AHL last season is massive. He could have his pick of teams in the ECHL and could hold out for an AHL contract, yet hes come here. Sticks up for himself too.
The only thing I will say which people forget, he isnt anybodys replacement. He isnt "the new Mcaslan", hes a big piece in the 10-11 season jigsaw. Hes a feisty 2 way centre, so he replaces Bruce if anything.
As for fighting, every team in the league will sign an enforcer. They will wheel them out, get the crowd going, then settle down and play hockey. Thats what having the extra import will do. This guy will stick up for himself if needed, as will Henderson and possibly our stay home D man (just guessing) so that will be enough.

As this is a forum, one has to respect every posters view on a subject, but I cant help being mystified by folks who dont appear less than happy with this signing. If anyone else had signed this guy in our League I would be envious. We needed a versitle player who could score goals, work 2 way, be versitile on the ice (how many times did we see Panthers players playing out of position last season - too many times!!). This guy is it! The guy notched up 91 games last season with a +/- of +30!! +30 bloody hell I hope the guy is never off the ice for us THis is a very impressive signing for us, make no mistake about this. HL

Can I suggest the forward lines maybe
Galbraith (Gallant?) DAB Clarke Sproat Henderson Levers Ryan Penner Lacho
The thing is though you can bring Sproat onto the 1st line, Henderson/DAB can be changed round, the interchanges are endless.

the interchanges are endless. And that flexibility is something Corey has always been keen on.

Ha. So many people underwhelmed by a bunch of stats and little else. How's that any different to those who read his stats and Gary's bit on the website and get the bunting out? It isn't and similarly that type of response is equally baffling (although dare I say it is more understandable to be overly positive if you are a fan than it is to be overly negative?). The fact is no-one has seen enough, if anything, of how these guys play and furthermore even if they had it would only be partially relevant as they are all part of a wider picture. The thing you can say is that thus far we do seem to have the makings of more of a "team" as opposed to "a great group of players on paper". Every team needs it's stars, it's big name / big reputation players but they still have to be part of the team.
