Unfortunately the latest news is that no 'official' recording of the event exists. The equipment was switched off. As I have said all along (not that it gets noticed among the anti Steeler clamour on THF) I do not condone in any way gouging and or fishooking, if proved he should rightly be banned. Something in the region of what's his faces sticking ban last year. I have infact asked for my THF account to be deleted, not just on account of this morning, but an accumilation of events/PM's and the unwillingness of some to accept a problem exists.

Trouble is Nem (and im saying this with a neutral head on, not a Panthers head or any other teams head) is that the way Simmsey goes about his business rubs a lot of people up the wrong way. So far on this incident, he doesnt appear to have said anything untoward, but in the past he has. And i think thats where a lot of this 'Steeler Bashing' stems from.
Simmsey is good at what he does, and you cant knock his committment and passion to the game of ice hockey. I believe (and im going to get slated for putting this on here) that we need a Simmsey type character high up in British Hockey's heirarchy, but minus the 'hype' and ways he goes about things at times.

I thought that all teams had to have an official game tape of each game for the ref/league etc if needed,
If this is true and the Giants haven`t got 1 then surely there should be some sort of penalty to them, fine etc.

Nem, is that no recording of the game, or of the incident?
The incident was after the period had finished carolle.

I've just watched a video of it and gouging of the eyes is pretty obvious from what I can see. He seems to have his thumb in his mouth and a finger in his eye and pushing him back.
Skeihar looks in a lot of pain. But that's my view form the shaky grainy video...
I'm not saying that because 'Its Steelers', It just really doesn't fit in with any image the sport is trying to promote. It just reduces him to a common goon IMO.

I think from the video on youtube I can just about make out the "fish hooking" but as for the eye gouging I dont see that at all. I'd say that its worth and one game ban which I believe he already has.
I have to admit that as far as gentlemanly conduct goes its not the best thing I've seen but I can guarantee that every fan on here will see more dangerous incidents this season go without even a two minute minor. The problem with something like this is that if for example he gets a five game ban then the next time someone does a check to the head are they gonna be looking at six games? Seven? Even ten?
If I were the league I'd leave things as they stand with the match penalty. The last thing we need is players suspended for long periods week in week out.

I have a link to a crystal clear clip that is very absoloutely conclusive, can I post it? Deffo no gouging, you can clearly see the flat of his hand, and the possition of his fingers. the hook is there though and not pretty! I see a ban looming. This clip is full screen and crystal clear!

You can see Ski scream out in pain as the finger goes in his eye, then YMCA boytakes advantage of the open mouth by sticking his fingers in his mouth.
He needs banning for a long time for trying to blind someone!

It is Kim. At least it gets rid of the gouging claims though (for me anyway) you can clearly see his hand is flat and there is no bend in any of his fingers. Also, the lino does nothing until the hook goes in.

His hand is over his eye but I don't think he stuck his finger in his eye. He did pull his mouth with his fingers though. Not as bad as some people are suggesting. 2 games max I think.

Also, the lino does nothing until the hook goes in. You can still cause quite a degree of pain by applying pressure to the eye with the flat of the hand. Perhaps not a 'gouge' but still nasty.

Gouging?..... hmmmm... possibly, although I'm not completely convinced. There doesn't appear to be much of a bend in his fingers... however, the flat of his hand certainly isn't over the eye - it's definitely the fingers.
However, he was doing something out of the ordinary to have Skiehar give that kind of pain reaction. The most likely explanation is that Clouthier was applying some kind of pressure on the eye with his fingers - and even if that isn't the 'full' technical definition of gouging, it's certainly something more than what could be considered acceptable - even in a hockey fight.
To hell with who the Steelers are playing next - us, Belfast or whoever. Looks to me like Clouthier deserves more than a one-match ban.
And something else he deserves... a lot of derision for 'fighting like a girl'...

Why can't people spell his name right??
Cloutier plays for Coventry - see no 'h'
Clouthier plays for Sheffield - with a 'h'
Does my head in that people can't spell other peoples names! It's as bad as Cruikshank and Cruickshank!
My apologies to the people who have spelt it right though
Ok rant over.... no gouge but definate fish hook.

No offence intended Helen - but don't you think it's a bit silly for criticising how people spell someone's name, at the same time as mis-spelling a word in basic English - one that has been used already in this thread?
Clouthier isn't a standard name here in the UK... maybe you could give people a bit of leeway on the spelling of it?
(Hey - bad spelling and bad English bugs the hell out of me, too... but I'm not perfect myself, and sometimes my poor typing lets me down.)

Ellen C, oops I appear to have spelt your name wrong. You make a big thing of whether there is a H or a T in the name. What the hell does that matter, when there is a serious incident that people are trying to talk about. Lift that carpet a bit more and we can brush it all under there and may be everybody will forget about it !... GOUGE.. scoop or force out. GAUGE..measuring instrument.

cant watch the videos, computer is rubbish, is there any possibility it was an accidental poke to the eye kind of thing? inflicting pain on the eye is so easy, wouldnt take much to make someone yelp, just a thought.
