Interestingly, the fans on THF who seem to find this the funniest are not us Panthers - but Hull and Edinburgh fans... could this be a result of the Steelers' PR disdain for them all these years? What goes around, comes around... and be nice to people you meet on the way up, because you'll meet them again on your way down.
I particularly like this joke (from a Hull fan):-
;D ;D ;D
As for the game itself... well, both teams came out of the gate pretty hard in the first period - I thought we were unlucky to finish evens at the first break. Beautiful strike by Clarkie to start things off, that was a rocket! But in the second period, we broke them... simple as that. They had absolutely no answer, couldn't cope with anything we did. Bruce's sublime short-hander just epitomised it... went round Verner as if the guy was paralysed. Clarkie's two goals were beauts and so was Galbraith's - but the strike of the night for me was Bruce's.
Although part of me would have liked to have seen us pour it on more in the third and give them an epic hammering, I can live with us sitting back a bit to save something for tonight (well - as long as we win tonight, of course!). A shame that they pulled one back, but overall irrelevant. A good, solid win... and how many empty seats in the away section before the final hooter went? Dear oh dear...
For us, I liked what Bruce, Clarke, Galbraith and Lee put in especially... oh, and Larocque. Skilful but not flashy, physical but not hotheaded... and seemed to form an instant bond with D'Amour. Much better than I'd feared from his stats. And finally, Marc Levers gets the recognition he deserves... he works his nads off just about every game, disrupting the opposition being his particular forte. Last night was the same as normal only better... and a well-deserved MoM.
And the Steelers? Poor does not even begin to describe it. Oh, they came out hungry enough... although their much-vaunted defence now appears to be reduced to just a catalogue of interference-type offences (largely ignored by Carson, surprise surprise) but they really didn't have anything else. Going forward, Hubbauer is class... they've picked a good one there, but one good player doth not a good team make and the rest were dire. Even Legue, who has apparently been largely carrying the team, didn't really look much last night. And is that really the same Andrew Verner?
Credit to the Sheffield fans for trying to keep their spirits up with the "we are number eight" chant... pity there were a few foul-mouthed types that spoiled it on the way out.
On the coaching side... Corey gets criticised (sometimes fairly, sometimes not IMHO) for his recruitment, style and not having a Plan B... well, Matsos doesn't even appear to have a Plan A! His recent statements in the Stir blaming the players only go so far... he recruited them, he's supposed to motivate them, he's supposed to be the one who plans out the strategy for them... and so far he appears to be 0 for 3 on that little scoresheet. 2 year contract extension? Wonder how long that's going to last...

So are the injuries to Mann and Meyers bad, or will they be in the line up for Newcastle. We heard Toneys had been rested because of an ankle injury. Meyers had treatment for a leg injury, Mann was put on a drip, ill, and Toneys had been ill during the week.

I really enjoyed the game. Nice to see some of the guys play like we know they can, thought the new signing looked great. He was straight into the action when needed, sticking up for his team mates, just what we need. Him and D'amour were awesome. D'amour had a great game, but have to say Bruce was just on fire, every team needs a Bruce but thankfully Panthers have this Bruce!

Looks like it could be Mann who gets rested tonight then, though that would disrupt the lines unless Neilson plays offence. Maybe give Molin a call?
I'm not totally happy with KSP, he concedes too many soft goals. Our Defense held pretty firm through the game though. I'm hoping Toney's doesn't get gassed permanently.
We should just looks to rotate the import defenceman for some games the rest of the season. This way it will keep the Defenceman on their toes.
Neilson should spend a few games on the bench, we need to stop giving away these "too many men"penalties.
I am exstatic about the result, I am still bouncing this morning. Oh look it's the league table:
bmibaby Elite League Team GP W WOT L LOT Pts 1 Nottingham 16 8 2 6 0 20 2 Coventry 12 8 1 3 0 18 3 Newcastle 13 8 0 3 2 18 4 Belfast 14 7 1 5 1 17 5 Cardiff 14 6 2 5 1 17 6 Edinburgh 10 2 2 5 1 9 7 Hull 13 3 0 8 2 8 8 Sheffield 14 2 1 9 2 8
The only problem is we have played 2-4 more games than everyone else, and we have now got 5 tricky away games in a row, starting with Newcastle, then we have to bus it back up north on Tuesday to face Edinburgh.

We are travelling strait up to Edinburgh from Newcastle so bus legs wont be an excuse this time.

Very impressed with new guy Larocque tonight, stuck up for his team mates from the first face off. For someone playing straight off the plane, and not having played this season, I was amazed at ice time he logged. I also like the speed of his passing (outlet especially), massive step up on Toneys.

So of course the question of wage cap is being discussed up in Sheffield and according to most we must be way over it. I don't fully understand how this new rule works but if it's being so successful for us why arn't other clubs (especially Steelers) going down this same route?

Wage cap again? Is that the best they can do?

Wage cap?...Well, if your allowed to take as many in the SQUAD as you wish but can only play a certain maximum.I don't think any club would lavish wages on so many players.
Credit to Sheffield fans that DO turn up.That's a measure of support.Though I think their chant of 'we are number eight' was beaten by ours. Also the 'Your not singing any more' though only by a few. No need to even try the 'If you all hate Sheffield clap your hands' folk, we are better than that. Just beating them is enough. Thought the nettie was a bit slack for us.Too busy slapping his stick to notify the near end of a Sheffield penalty yet not with his eye on the game. How many times were we on a delayed call coming up for him to be still standing there in his crease instead of getting off for the extra man. Meyers goal is worth a mention too for it's 'on target' quality.

Fantastic night really enjoyed it.
Panthers were a different class in the second period and they never loooked back eased up in the third and protected the lead without becoming boring to watch or complacent and letting the advantage slip great performance .

Anyone else find it a bit boring? No, he's obviously one of the world's greatest wits. perhaps you two cant see past the post and read into it a little more.think about it, we annihilated the steelers last night and everyone was firing on all cylinders. do you honestly think the team will be able to play to the best of their potential tonight? come on, have a hard think about it, whenever we play a really good game against sheffield/coventry alot of the time by the away game the next day, the players are worn out. thoughts?

Regarding the wage cap, read all the (5) posts. It's hardly a torrent of accusations. Unlike your own forums' constant hints whenever Steelers bring in new players.

We'll see how many that increases to later, shall we? (not bothered to go onto the Sheffield forum yet, that would be like kicking a puppy...) As for past stuff - give it a rest, your lot are the worst in the country for that kind of innuendo, always have been...

I love it the two teams who have broke wage caps for last 15 years bickering over wagecaps.

I don't fully understand how this new rule works but if it's being so successful for us why arn't other clubs (especially Steelers) going down this same route? There is 2 different issues. 1) is how much you are spending within the wage cap but 2) is how much you are actually spending. If you are talking wage cap and you are trying to justify how we have managed to stay within it, you would say that Lacroque has come in and Toneys wage hasn't been included for this game as he hasn't played. Flimsy but then the wage cap has always been like that. If you are talking actual spend, we are now paying 11 import players even if one isn't playing, in the same way we paid Rumun all of last year and have carried spare imports in previous years. Luckily we have an owner who can afford this. In the current climate, I doubt Sheffield can afford to do this. Nothing to do with wage cap, just actual spend.

Was i just my family or did anyone else find it highly amusing that Matsos was sat on the coach(with a face like thunder) even before half the arena was empty. He was not a happy man. On the game side i have to agree with a lot of people Sheffield were very very poor. Larocque looked good. Levers deserved his mom. But at stages we were very poor too. Hey we beat the steelers so hopefully we can carry the momentum on to tonight and get another win. fingers crossed.
