Oh how very very sweet it feels - we played realy well - like the new guy - think he will fit in well - Carson still had to do his regulation 5 on 3 stint but this time it didnt work - one last thing arnt the Squeelers a mardy bunch when they lose - you would have thought that this year they would be used to it by now - OH SO SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET

never mind we are #1 ... they are #8 ;D steelers were poor, they have massive MASSIVE problems, one thing i couldnt believe was when 6-2 down they did nothing to get themselves going, no big hits, no fights, no message sending no one taking the game by the scruff of the neck... poor allround bruces short hand goal was sublime, galbraiths was a rocket but the pass to him from gascon was just as good. lever thoroughly deserved his man of the match. ksp had a couple of soft moments as he seems to do but equally made big saves as 3/36 is not too shabby in this league, penalty killing wasn't brilliant. how steelers can cheer and say hewitt won the fight is a joke he didnt even come close to landing a punch. verner was poor, he dropped a lot of regulation saves, and let in a couple of soft ones. oh well not our problem my only concern from today is we may have burned ourselves out for tomorrow... but that is another day! VERY HAPPY PANTHER HERE TONIGHT!!!!

Enjoyable game tonight and obviously a very pleasing end result!
Good on Richo for stepping up and setting the tone early doors. Not a classic fight but he got a few good hits in and didnt seem to get a glove laid on him so id say a Panthers win on that one.
The first period was a strange one; we heavily outshot them and Verner made some big saves but I went into the interval feeling slightly fortunate to be tied. After the first 5 mins, the Steelers outworked us and seemed to be first to every puck. They seemed really up for it and I was worried! In the second however, we were outstanding and Sheffield were poor (maybe they had tired themselves in the first). We were in complete control for 20 mins and that killed the game.
As usual we made incredibly hard work of it in the 3rd. In hindsight I guess there was no real danger with a 3 goal lead but coming out with an attitude like we did in that period, for me was a big mistake. After we scored the 6th we basically defended (and not overly convincingly) for 15 minutes. We forgot how to play good hockey and were content to hack the puck around. Thankfully we weren't made to pay but it was a shame to revert to that style after such a complete performance as in the 2nd.
Some great goals tonight; a fantastic pass by Gascon on one at the block 10 end (sorry, cant remember the scorer), a great half volley by Clarkie and of course the Brucie special! Special mention too for Levers, he was awesome tonight, probably the best I have ever seen him play. He skated hard all night, was in the faces of the Steelers players, broke up play after play and was generally involved in all that was good about our play.
The only downside is the injuries with Mann and perhaps more worryingly, Meyers not seeing out the game, but I guess it's wait and see for news on those.
One final mention for Hubbauer as I was really impressed with him tonight. Sadly for him his team mates didn't match his work rate and passion but he deserved his 2 goals and as with Levers the man of the match that came with it. Corey, you think we could make room for this guy?!
Well done Panthers!

A result to savour - we went top of the league by putting steelers bottom - doesn't get much better than that!

So how will the chunky brummie spin this one? Fantastic result, a few mistakes were made but I'll excuse them just for the passion the team showed tonight. Larocque didn't have too bad a game considering he only flew in this morning and that French/Canadian line looked quite comfortable.

great game, for the neutral or newbie that must have been excellant! hope to see some of the crowd returning to the next home game as the atmosphere was great tonight, as was the panthers performance.
d'amour and the new guy larouque had really good games! that defence unit is massive now, loved the way larouque protected st pierre so well. beauty of a goal for that traing ground routine which enabled meyers to shoot through the middle.

I have to say I felt sorry for the Steelers fans tonight, they were let down by a team with no fight, no guts and no plan.
On the upside we controlled the game well as soon as we got 3 2 up there was only 1 winner. A note about Marc Levers he has been playing like that all season. Deserved 2 or 3 MOM in my opinion, well done Leves

The Steelers really do have problems. I could pick numerous examples, but I'll go with the powerplay they had which we scored shorthanded on. In addition to Bruce's goal, we had at least two other decent scoring opportunities. Did they get in a single shot during that powerplay? They were bad. It was hilarious.

Well you can tell we had a good night by the number of pages on this thread, Steeltalk is up to 15 pages at the moment. Well Done Lads hope you've saved enough for tomorrow now. Not sure why it was Toneys that was cut but apparently he was very upset and sat in one of the boxes.

I also liked the look of the D when Larocque and D'amour was out there, and it might become a good d paring given a little bit of time.

The turning point for me was Thomas bricking himself and clinging onto the linesman for dear life when D'Amour was after him. It just showed how little fight and team spirit Steelers had, and must have been a boost to our lot and right blow to their lot.
Even funnier because it was Thomas who loves playing the big man when he's in no danger or has somebody backing him up, but runs a mile when he has to answer the bell.
