I agree with Newham, it's my biggest game also. Although I agree, in your current climate perhaps not the smartest quote to put out. never mind, it will pale in to insignificance once our very own poet lariat gets going later this week Brace yourselves people!

We've turned a corner....and got lost. Let's not make pre game quotes etc...just say we were bad and the fans knew it this last week. Stop building up for a fall.
Basic hockey with the lines that were working.
The thread about the looser cruiser was just a jovial laugh, we are all behind the team,But we need to see effort from the team now to give us the effort to support . Can't cheer on something like the Wednesday night game.

Biggest rivalry in the UK?... possibly - although I'm firmly of the opinion that the rivalry has gone very stale now.... and the various attempts at hyping it up (from either side) only serve to shown that...
Biggest in Europe? - not even close. Not even in the same ball-park.
Hype is inevitable (unfortunately, to my mind) - just about every team does it in one way or another, so most of the time I try to ignore it. But please... if we're going to have hype, at least make it even remotely credible!
Dear oh dear...

I agree I think the hype can get in the way of the game for the players aswell and make it a less exciting game and you just know Simoes will be after the huge checks and Shmyr and Clothier will HAVE to have a fight even if there is nothing to fight about, I think we've seen it all before TBH

Personally I've always hated games against the Steelers. Don't get me wrong I'm happy whenever we beat them but far too often we've been either humiliated or it's been a case of so near yet so far. Only on a small handful of occasions have been geniunely exstatic about a win over them - and most of them are listed in the top twenty moments poll currently being ran.
To me the rivalry is dying a slow death for two reasons
1) The player turnover we get these days. Long gone are the days you had players that stuck with their respective side and who felt the rivalry as strongly as the fans. You used to relish the personal battles between these players. You just don't get that anymore.
2) The frequency in which we play them in games where not an awful lot is riding on the result. I'm still happy when we beat them but you have a niggling feeling in the back your head hoping that it's going to last and when we lose you're disappointed but know that there's going to be at least six more occasions in which you can beat them. Talk about diluting feelings.
Biggest rivalry in the UK? Probably. In Europe? Absolutley not, put a Panther and a Steeler in the same room together and they'll happily chat to one another. If they geniunely believe this is the biggest game in European hockey then perhaps someone should buy them a ticket to go and see a derby game on the continent!

Talk about diluting feelings. I'd agree, and it's a feeling prevalent in the NHL too between Toronto & Ottawa. Both have already played one another twice in preseason games, and now four times in the regular season. I've never been a fan of games between Panthers & Steelers either, usually because there's either been too much vitriol between club individuals or the fans themselves.
