Has anyone else noticed how many face offs he wins? I was wondering if anyone kept those sort of stats, as more often than not, against experienced and usually import opposition, he wins the puck, often in tight situations. It has been been very noticeable with his elevation in status to regular 2nd line centre, I suppose you see more of him, and he was very definitely placing his D men, noticed him moving Neilson around into the right spot on a PK face off, a sign of increased confidence and leadership? He has come on massively IMHO under Ellis.

If you want face-off stats, you may want to have a look at this site Pete Welch. The face-off stats are usually at the bottom of the gamesheet. I don't think these are the official figures, but how Pete saw it on the night. IIRC, Matty was one of our most successful face-off winners last season, once Tess had left, and Blaser used to use him in key situations.

I think he needs to keep his mouth shut after getting a penalty. He always seems to complain to the referee about something as he is going to the box.
He also needs to be aware of the position his team mate are in, in stead of keeping hold of the puck.
But he is a better player.

I've got sympathy for Matt Myers because prior to last season and Blaisdell's arrival, he looked like his game really was on the verge of taking off. In fact, I was expecting more responsibilities and a greater role being given to Matt on the ice last year, but then along came Blaisdell and pretty much undid all the good work instilled into Myers by Adey.
By the end of last year, Myers hardly looked good enough for the third line, his confidence was that badly shaken. However, credit to Mike Ellis for showing sufficient faith in him and his ability and getting him well on the way to the road to recovery.

Obviously his attractiveness to puck bunnies is more important than his hockey ability. Just wish he wouldn't fall over all the time, although he's a better player than he was under Blaisdell.

yea hes on his Ar$e more than his feet it seems. Has someone put leg tape on his skate blades?
On faceoffs.... Neilly was getting pretty good at them, its a just a shame he has to share Ice Time with Cooke, Neilly has bags more potential and should be developed. Cooke seems lazy, coasting it a bit. Not half the effort #12 gives.

Ladies - without wishing to be anything other than factual here, I don't give a rats ass what he looks like, I want him to play well, create if not score goals and become the greatest thing since Tony Hand, all while staying with us. I didn't really want to get into a debate on the relative merits of our Brits as the fact is Matt and Clarkey, bless 'em, both get the most exposure/ game time right now and I for one, having not been to many games in the last 3 years am very pleasantly surpised and delighted by the maturing Matt Myers and wanted to know if other folks felt the same. His ability to inspire testosterone (or whatever the equivalent is) driven emotions were NOT part of this discussion, I was asking for a debate on if his progression was something quite extraordinary and something yours truly had missed. Call me single minded. old fashioned and boring if you like (not an invitation, justify it please), but for one brief moment, I imagined this was a hockey forum rather than a male beauty contest........ I'm sure his partner ( politically correct side of me emerging there) appreciates all the complements.

Nicely put, and could I add that a photogenic hockey player is one that is not doing his job correctly. An ugly hockey player to me shows that he's not afraid of putting his looks on the line for the sake of his team. Give me guys who have broken their nose several times over someone who fights for the mirror to apply moisteriser after they've come out the shower.

Has anyone else noticed how many face offs he wins? . . He has come on massively IMHO under Ellis. Yes on both counts. Matt really has applied himself to the art of taking and winning faceoffs. Mike Ellis seems to be living up to expectation with regard to the British players - he really does seem to be able to get the best out of them. Geoff Woolhouse looks oceans better than he was last season. When this season's roster was announced I was a bit concerned that we didn't seem to have a face off specialist (like Tessier was) but it seems we've got by well enough so far, in no small part due to Matt Myers. That said, it was worrying in the first two periods against Belfast last Saturday - we couldn't seem to win a face off when it mattered and were under a lot more pressure than we should have been as a result.

Matt Myers isn't the only good face-off winner we have (although he's been good at that for as long as he's been with us - remember him going head-to-head with Steve Moria and winning?)...
James Neil won quite a few face-offs up in Edinburgh, as I recall... I wasn't counting myself, but someone else said that he took 17 face-offs over the two games up there, and only lost 3 of them!
But getting back onto topic... I'm hoping that Mike Ellis really gets to work with Matt this season and works to help his skills and confidence on the shooting and scoring - we've not seen the best of him there, I think.

IMO however, i agree with whoever said that Blaizer messed Matt up a bit... He seemed like a great little player at the beginning of last season and ended up being quite poor by the end.... taking that one board, its only just the beginning of this season and hes still going to be nervous about last year so give him a chance.... fair enough hes messed up a few times over the past few games but give him credit for trying.
