I know that this has probably been put on here before, but i have been given a task from my family to find out why we are called the Panthers? Just wondered if anyone could give me a helping hand to find out?
Cheers

there isn't a 100% definite answer to this but alot of people think it came from a WW2 air force divsion (or what ever you call them) that was based in Nottingham

it was originally a team made up of canadians at the airforce base or so I hear.... closer to Sheffield actually... urrrgh. They then got changed to the panthers.... or something similar. All pantehrs history can be found on PeteWs page homepage.ntlworld.com/peter.walch/

This is confirmed with 1939 having originally been the time that we should have started regular play but for Mr.Hitlers interjection. The rink opened and hockey was introduced through the programme given out in that year. An exibition game geing played by the two Harringay teams before we actually put together a couple of Panther related games.

I have a copy of the Souvenir Brochure from the Grand Opening of the old Ice Stadium (10 April 1939, which pre-dates the start of WWII by almost 5 months). In it, it states "The side will be known as the "Nottingham Panthers", and the colours Black and White"So, the theory of the team being named after an RCAF Squadron based near Nottingham, goes up in smoke! Unfortunately, the brochure doesn't provide any explanation as to how the name was derived.
