I've been away from the Cage for 36 hours and come back to find an excess of vitriol, inconsiderate posting and the biggest outbreak of trolling since the Norse Chronicles.
Quite frankly I can do without it.
I go away for a day or two and then have to sit up way into the early hours reading and editing pages of personal squabbles etc trying to find out what's gone off - and judging by the vitriol and deleted accounts something's been going on.
I can see now why Kendra closed the "Lair", why Mitya quit the Cage, why BJ said "enough!" and why Nutty quit.
BJ wasn't far wrong with his tombstone "RIP Cage Forum"......
A forum exists for it's members - it is what it's members make it.
It isn't the job of the Mods to orchestrate the forum, only to try and tidy up when people overstep the line.
Mods give up (a lot) of their time trying to keep the Cage on an even keel but as Lucy said elsewhere, we do actually have lives to live outside of hockey.
However, if the burden becomes too great then make no mistake, we will walk away. The Cage has a proud tradition but if people don't respect it then make no mistake, I'm prepared to close it down.
It's now getting on for 2am and I've still got some way to go to get through all the posts that have been made in my absence, to make sense of what's been going on.
In light of that, I'm suspending all posting to "Talk Hockey" for a while.
A chance for us all to reflect on our behaviour and what we want and expect from the Cage.
A sad day indeed.
