It's a bit rich moaning about the Panthers performance last night, we beat what are/were many peoples favourites for the league. True it wasn't the best performance but it was good enough, we won. Lindsey and Clarke were exellent, as were Simoes and in my opinion Rees, a solid performer who does his job quietly and efficiently. Kudos to Stevens also, his best game to date? Nielson had a stinker but unfortunately Moran looks totally out of his depth on this team, constantly out of position, hesitant and lacking in ideas, and he still coughs up the puck on a regular basis. Very happy overall however, roll on next weekend.

Not a great game but nice too see Shmyr in his first fight and getting the win also Lindsey was on FIRE as was Clarke!!!!!! Stevens looks like he is hitting form 1+2 last night. The negatives were SLOPPY passing , Neilson had a MARE as did Moran !!!!! But 2 points is all you can ask for !!!!

Good game and solid performance.
Best players:
1. Evan- Great game. I have been one of his biggest critics but he definitely showed his worth tonight. Well done!
2. Clarkie- Will he ever stop scoring!
3. Stevens- Have been impressed with his work rate all season, he's just been missing that cutting edge. Glad he got his goal tonight, think he needed it.
4. Myers- Mr consistent and doesnt get the credit he deserves in this team. Unfortunate error with the glove leading to their 1st was the only belnish on his performance.
Thought Rees had a bit of a mare although Ive been very impressed with him up to now. Yet to be convinced by Petriko and Nielson. The former can go largely unnoticed in games and Nielson positional play is questionable to say the least. Moran also looks to be struggling but hopefully its just taking a while to get back in the groove following his injury.
Well done lads anyway, see you in France!

Not a great game but nice too see Shmyr in his first fight and getting the win Shmyr had a fight against Bees at the start of the season, after coming off the bench to fight and stick up for his team mate.

I see what you're saying, Pete... but I cannot agree that the Giants out-played us, Clarke or not. I tend to agree with Pete Dave. Our defence, both individual and team was shocking for the first two periods. Hat trick for Clarke or not, Evan Lyndsay was robbed not getting MoM - a fine performance by EL and without him we'd have been dead and buried by the end of the second. More turnovers from Panthers players than you'd get in a bakery. Play like that in the CC and we'll get dismantled like as not. That said, whilst it wasn't an outstanding game it was very entertaining (and that's the way I like my hockey) and it's a damn good result. I'm liking the look of this team and it bodes well for entertaining hockey - looks like Doom was right in his pre-season observation and we are in for a season of Run and Gun hockey. I just hope they get back from the CC unscathed though I have my doubts.... I'd echo earlier comments regarding the refereeing - not brilliant on the night, Matt Thompson didn't seem very comfortable with ZT and lacked consistency. I've seen worse though..... far worse! ;D

Last night i thought was rather entertainingm, some sloppy turnovers in the neutral zone again and some dodgy back hand passes by our d which i wasn t happy about, i thought corey perhaps had his worst game for us tonight.
Positives:-
Evan, man if i hear any more complaints about this guy looking dodgy etc for anyb reason , i ll want words with whoover is guilty of saying that, he seriously came out with big time saves tonight when the game was locked at 2-1 and 3-2, like i said when we signed him he d come into his own when games were close and yet again his proved just that.
Clarkie, well where do i start, its getting harder and harder to believe this guy is a brit, hes picked up 3 yards of pace in the summer, he looks as hungry as ever and is shooting is razor sharpe, that SH effort last night was sublime.
Smhyr showed us just what hes here for and some more, seriously everything you want in a team guy, those boby blocks are becoming customary if him now, awesome, hes great on the PK.
Simoes well if we had 15 more like him, they may as well give us the title now, 150% shift man, man those checks rock, getting better and better, to me THE find of the summer, and out of the CHL, oh wheres all thosew critics of the CHL now, howe many more in the league like him.
Not the complete perfomance of against the devils, but you know what they say about teams who win and play below par!!!!!.

For me it was a game between two wage cap philosophies. Giants have spent it all on imports who can break, pass and find positions on the ice. Panthers have spent it on a team with a long bench of Brits together with imports who want to win and work to get it.
Particularly on the powerplay the Giants carved out clear openings and we needed Lindsay to come up big (that back post save from Dutes was just awesome). But Panthers worked them over and until we coughed up the puck for a short handed goal the Giants were dead and buried coming up to the second interval. When you consider the way their first goal was scored it was no mean feat to have them on the ropes.
When they tried to pressurise in the third we looked stronger defensively and could have added far more than one more goal when breaking out.
OK one or two players didn't have their best game, we coughed up the puck too much under pressure and they suffered through misconduct calls, but overall the Team won again.

lol, your very negative theses days shinobi, im just glad you were wrong about Cardiff, just hope your wrong again, no disrespect intended. No I'm not, if you're going to start making accusations about posters, at least get you facts right. Go and check my predictions for past games and you'll find I usually go for a Panthers win.

i agree with 99% of whats been said there,no need to repeat it. EL is sticking to his game, as the D get used to him we will be fine
Shaggy, the fight was because Shmyr had offered it Skiehar earlier and he turned it down to play hockey however belfast went 1-0 down and Skiehar got permission to fight and was happy it would help the team so he said to Shmyr lets go and he obliged. Belfast equalised not long after iirc so well done to Skiehar. The more i watch the fight tho the more i feel for Skiehar, those werent small taps Shmyr was landing!

The fight was great and Ski did get a few on target himself, but took the brunt of some hefty punches. I would upload the video but I am sure it would be causing more trouble and don't want to stir the pot at the moment.

Can anyone recall if there has ever been a joint MOM award. This game seems like an example of where it would have been appropriate with the performances both Clarke and Lindsay turned in.

For my part I though we were outplayed in most areas, even in the 3rd period despite Belfasts' lack of numbers. Ellis can't seem to rely on either Moran or Meyers in that 4th defensive slot and both Neilson and Krajicek needed more time on the puck than the Giants' heavy forecheck were prepared to give them. Awada and Ruff were outstanding for the Giants tonight. McAslan had a pretty quiet game, I thought maybe carrying an injury. All in all I thought their "imports" were much more dangerous than ours. Panthers would have lost tonight if not for Clarkies ability to find the corner of the net with his shot, unlike many others who hammer the puck into the well positioned goalies' midriff, and Lindsays' outstanding display. His left leg save against an unmarked Dutiaume at the back post was awesome. Quite! Had Lindsay not been in outstanding form I think we'd have been lucky to have got ourselves a point. Defensively the Panthers really do worry me. A team is going to punish us sooner rather than later if it doesn't improve! Having said all that Saturday was a reasonably good game which was entertaining without ever being spectacular. Being entertained and seeing some effort are the two most important factors for me and I do believe we're getting that but our defence does need to make some improvements before we can say we have the finished article.

A joint MOM has been awarded already this season against Basingstoke when both Clarke and McAslan scored hat tricks

Everyone keeps stating that sooner or later someone will show our defence up for what they are, but i'm starting to wonder about the validity of those sentiments. I'm fairly sure that Belfast are one of the teams who have the most potent forward lines (even though they only roll two), but they could only put two past Lindsay. Yes, Evan had a stormer, but I don't think any particular team in this league has what you'd describe as a strong 'D' to fall back on when the goals dry up.
I guess what will win this league is the quality of the offensive play which will prevail over the weak defending that i've seen so far. With this in mind, I wouldn't swap our key impact forwards for anyone elses in the Elite League, and I certainly thing we adopted the mantra that if they score seven, we'll score eight!

After seeing the freak goal by Myers, on East Midland Today, would he be driving the "loser" ford fiesta this week? Damn that David Clarke sure is on fire....some nice goals, so say where can I get the DVD of the match from?

the overall game was brilliant and again Lindsay proves that hes not that bad after all.
Clarkey, give that man a 5 year contract!!!
The fight was pretty good, not sure which one of Shmyrs hits landed that caused Ski to duck his head but must of been a cracker because hes a tough player.

Great game ! I seem to be spending the whole 60 minutes turning my Clarke shirt around to wave it at him as he celebrates another goal ! Wonderful ! I'm in love ! Lindsay had a great game too, although both Belfast's goals seemed soft. What on Earth was Petircko doing ??! Evan's one on one to save the breakaway was cracking though. However, Nielson is driving me crazy. He had a total mare. If he wasn't coughing up the puck on his own doorstep, he was standing 2 metres the wrong side of the guy he was supposed to be marking and letting him break away and then he was too slow to catch him and recover the error. This is really shoddy defending and its not the first game I've thought this about him. Seriously needs to pull his socks up now we've got Shymr to handle the rough stuff. The odd blistering shot from the blue line does not make up for failing to take care of business. Good game though and I went to my rugby do after as a 'patient'. Had to combine my hockey shirt with the costume, so I improvised this: It got me served at the bar really quick, but had a bit of trouble flagging down a taxi later. Thought about wearing it for the game, but thought either the bluecoats would throw me out or something really ironic would happen like a puck would fly off the ice and hit someone in the head near me and it would look like I was taking the mick
