Another very enjoyable game. Thought we were abit sloppy at the back at times but still don't think they really threatened. Should have been 4-0 as both their goals were soft. Shmyr I thought was great. doesn't go looking for it but but if it happens to come along fine, Skihar (sp) took a few punches to the head that must have hurt. All in all things still looking good. As one or two said after the game the reffing left a lot to be desired, thought we'd turned a corner on that score last week but seems not quite!

Should have been 4-0 as both their goals were soft. And no doubt the other 46 shots were nothing to be concerned about either.

My observations: 1. Belfast are a go0d strong skillful side, but their illdiscipline cost them tonight. 2. Why must we repeatedly cough the puck up in centre ice? Evan Lindsay must despair at times. 3. Lindsay was fantastic tonight, and only a Clarkie hat-trick surely prevented him from getting man of the match. 4. The win was more comfortable than I dared hope. HL PS: The scoring machine Tessier got 0+1 = 1 tonight. He is still to score an Evan Handed goal this season

I thought it was a good, not great game. The first two periods were definitely the Giants but Lindsay was tremendous and kept us in it. Third period we seem to get stronger and our passing was much better. All in all id take this eevery week.

Good game tonight, note not excellent. Having said that, we got the required result. Belfat are a good team, though a little indisciplined. As said in the old Dad's Army, "They don't like it up them"
Lindsay, kept us in the game tonight (how did Lindsay keep out Dutiaume in the 3rd period?). Clarke, was outstanding (boy is he on fire).
Is it me, or has the NIC lowered the temperature in the last few games. Note to myself - take sweater next game!!!
Shmyr- seems to get better every game. Did his duty tonight with Skiehar. Defensively, he was great on the PK and almost got a great goal on a breakaway.
To me, Rees had a stinker, giving the puck away endless times, but as said before, we got the result.
Simoes, boy this guy doesn't know the meaning of giving up.
McAslan, Stevens (his best game this season), Petricko, Emersic and Neilson all earned their wages tonight.
The Brits also did their bit, and with Belfast's lack of numbers, this helped us tremendously.
Hope we do well in Rouen next week, but more importantly, hope we come back fully fit. Good luck guys.

Not the prettiest of games but it was good to see the hunger out there. Clarke is awesome such a great thing to see. Evan stood on his head and I am really glad that we have Ryan on our team this year.

wheres as think Rees had a good game, solid at the back yet felt that Nielson was poor tonight by his standards... hey ho As for rest tend to agree... apart from second goal which was gifted by petricko.

There were a couple of times tonight when the old heart started stuttering....
Overall, I think that was a great team effort - barring the last couple of minutes of the 2nd period when their heads just seemed to be on another planet!
Belfast have some top-notch talent, but they are also very short-handed, and it showed... they also didn't play as a TEAM, whereas the Panthers most certainly did - and again, it showed!
Notables:-
- Evan Lindsay. Were it not for Clarkie's second hat-trick of the season so far, I thought he'd have got MoM easily. Some sublime saves, and even when the rest of the team had a mental time-out, he was still sharp. No fault to him IMHO on either of the two goals... the first looked to have taken an odd bounce (did Myers' glove make contact?) and the second he was hung out to dry - a beautiful goal that would have beaten any netminder in the league.
- David "Captain Fantastic" Clarke. From the stats, you'd think this was a one-man team, whereas the reality is very different. However - leadership, speed, strength, and a canny eye for goal - Clarkie is doing magnificently.
- Ryan Shmyr. He's not the fastest, he's not the most skilled with the puck. Who cares? - this man is a team player of the best kind! His blocking of shots, his poke-checks, his making space for others... hell, even winning face-offs! RS is growing on me, that's for sure. I'm not much of a fight fan, and I didn't see the point in the fisticuffs tonight (didn't even see what started it - if anything!)... but at least he clearly won it.
- Steve Simoes. Top player... absolutely stellar. Mike/Calle/Gary/Neil... I don't care what you have to do to keep this guy in Nottingham... hold a gun to his head, offer him your daughters, whatever - just keep him here in a Panthers jersey! His intensity, his checking, his unrelenting pressure... I love it. The way he wins face-offs, instantly turning them into an attack... I swear he creates more chances (for himself and others) than any other member of the team.
Very happy with tonight... 2 more points, and 4 points clear.
It's only early days, of course - but look at how things stand right now:- - top of the league - unbeaten at home - unbeaten in regulation - the league's top goalscorer
OK, some of the above will undoubtedly change... maybe even all of it (although I sincerely hope not!). But right now... it feels good!
Oh - and I finally broke the jinx of the Jinman game-worn jersey! ;D

For my part I though we were outplayed in most areas, even in the 3rd period despite Belfasts' lack of numbers. Ellis can't seem to rely on either Moran or Meyers in that 4th defensive slot and both Neilson and Krajicek needed more time on the puck than the Giants' heavy forecheck were prepared to give them. Awada and Ruff were outstanding for the Giants tonight. McAslan had a pretty quiet game, I thought maybe carrying an injury. All in all I thought their "imports" were much more dangerous than ours. Panthers would have lost tonight if not for Clarkies ability to find the corner of the net with his shot, unlike many others who hammer the puck into the well positioned goalies' midriff, and Lindsays' outstanding display. His left leg save against an unmarked Dutiaume at the back post was awesome.

I see what you're saying, Pete... but I cannot agree that the Giants out-played us, Clarke or not. Belfast's puck-handling was atrocious, their passing even worse. Granted - both teams made mistakes (as always)... but Belfast just didn't seem to be able to complete anything, even without any intervention from our team - and there was plenty of that, because the Panthers played a very good disruptive game. When battling for the puck - be it at the boards or centre ice - I'd say that we came away with it 80% of the time. That's not us being out-played...

Disagree Pete to be honest, I thought Belfast were sporadic in terms of pressure and we soaked up a lot of pressure on the PK, their much vaunted team was singularly uninventive going forward and while I accept we we lucky in parts to keep our sheet as clean as we did seems to me they were as fortunate as that we didn't run up a cricket score with Minard not having a dominating game, and in particular their top line being very quiet. I am very pleased with the result as we are 4 points clear, I hope we have an uneventful CC, do ourselves justice but don't progress and come back to greater things here in the UK. I maybe a bit off progamme here but I for one thinkwe can do without the distraction fo the Continental Cup, what with everything else we have to attend to.

All in all I thought their "imports" were much more dangerous than ours. Ofcourse they were, they busted their wage cap on the first 2 lines, which is why we had double the amount of players on the bench than they did.

good game lads and a well thought victory
our NM was exceptional again - really kept us in the game, he may his "doubters" but i'm not one of them.
Mr clark - fantastic, once again
Corey neilson - thought he had a poor game, with his first 2 plays of the game, he gives the puck away in our zone which leads to a goal scoring opportunity for the giants , and then trying to clear the puck out of the zone, he nearly knocks it out of the arena!!
But the overall difference between this anbd last season(s)
1 - we have a plan b 2 - we play as a team 3 - we match and win against a fellow contender 4 - we didnt give up and WON
good luck in france guys

Not a totally convincing performance but we won and I thought it was a thoroughly entertaining game.
I thought we were very poor defensively at time. Too many weak backhand passes across the ice which far too often ended up on a Giant player's stick. Rees had his worst game yet, after an impressive start to the season and Moran was off the pace again. For me, he doesn't seem to have the leg speed to cope with ZT. Neilson also decidedly average for a top earner.
Going forward though I thought we were very impressive again. Clarke aside, I thought Stevens looked a lot quicker than in previous games.
Belfast impressed, especially as they basically played with two lines all night. They forechecked hard all night which led to the defensive errors we made. I thought they would tire more than they did in the third. Not sure I can agree with you Shaggy regarding Belfast not being able to complete anything. 48 shots on goal would suggest they completed quite a few things. If we let the opposition have 48 shots all season, we won't win every week, that's for sure. In fact, we would probably end up losing more than we win. It's a good job Lindsay had a blinder.
All the best to the team in the Continental Cup.

cant grumble, outplayed or not we won. 2 points thank you very much.
Glad Schmyr has finally dropped the gloves and battered someone. Kudos to Skeihar for wanting to go though. Apparently Skeihar had 16 stitches in his forehead. Shmyr... a little cut to the side of his nose
Clarkie. Oh my god. Oh my god, Clarkie. Hes on fire, cant fault him. His glove went very high as well after his 3rd!
Lindsay definately player a blinder, even against such a strong attack from belfast he manged to play his style of goal tending brilliantly. Kept us in the game for sure at times.
McAslan I thought played well. He landed some big hits as well. Really big.
Stevens celebrated his goal right infront of the giants block! ha ha... great stuff!
The D didnt look amazing tonight it must be noted. But as I said..... if we beat a team like Belfast where (a lot of you anyway think) we werent 100%... Im happy enough.
Mitch.... lost your way back under your bridge? Who needs Tess? We did LAST year. This year... pffft, rather not have his ego thank you very much.

I disagree with PeteW as well, we had as many decent oppertunities as the giants did depite them having nearly 50 shots to our 36, alot of the save lindsey made were comfortable, they scored 2 goals that where shocking errors the first epecially from myers.
overall it was an even game as chance were concerned we maybe had better chances than them

Agreeing with Teddy C and others, Clarke is on fire and we really did a good job tonight and again a team effort saw us through. Evan did us proud, he's my kind of netminder and I've been bigging him up since he signed. Similar style to Sundberg, maybe better, we need longer... He likes to play the puck and he has awesome movement. Proving to be a very big player for us. Shymr and Simoes again did very well and McAslan did alot without really showing it. Great movement on and off the puck, held the puck well and left a few Giants face prints on the plexi. The refereeing was up and down but no worse than usual in my book. I did feel that perhaps the Giant had the worst of the decisions and personally I thought the misconduct for abuse of official was a little harsh, the poor guy was only stating fact... Matt Thompson is blind Overall, although we lost our way a little at the end of the second, I felt that we were always on top. Can I just applaud the people in blocks 9,10,11 who really got the atmosphere going. I thought the crowd was great last night and it seems to be getting better every week. Martin
