Shmyr is 100% the team guy, his presence has so far been enough to keep goons away from our team. Obviously his points contribution is a big bonus but his work on the penalty kill is invaluable, always willing to pay the price. He's a fighter on the boards too, winning his fair share of pucks, hence his assists. Shmyr is no mug either, for a bloke with a reputation as an enforcer, he spends very little time in the penalty box. Not one prone to the red mist it appears. I've rated him since our first match, little wonder fans and personnel of his previous teams rated as the heart of their particular team, because in my opinion that's exactly what he is. Simoes is another 100%er, and a major league checker. A big asset to the Panthers. The criticism of Rod Stevens is, I think a little unfair. He may not of weighed in with the goals yet, but his team contribution has been good. A cracking piece of work for Pietricko's goal against Cardiff for example. The key word in all this is team, I haven't seen the like since we've played at the NIC.

How valuable has he been already?? NO ONE has tried any funny stuff and our players have been allowed to play without living in fear like last season. Last year Voth was hammering our guys and ruled the ice, but, as they both got on the ice for the first time, Shmyr skated up behind him and had a quick word in he ear and left Voth looking pefrified and as a result he was quiet as a mouse all night. AND he does all this without going round cheap shotting people! He just gets on with his own game playing cleanly. Gomez and Campbell wouldnt go anywhere near him, yet the next game are more than happy to go with Clouthier and Darby at Sheffield. Ofcourse Cornish will have a go but I dont think he'll have much success, judging by his 2 bouts with Gomez. Shmyr may not be clocking up the points but you have to ask if we'd be as successful up to yet had he not been here. Shmyr isnt know for getting a lot of points anyway last season he only got 3 points in 50 odd games and shmyr has already got that points total this season and he's only played 7 games. Also he's doubled his goal tally from last season already with 2 goals this season.

in a way yes, but not the only one. theres a few other players on the team who could also have that title.
Shmyr quite frankly has been a brilliantly player for us and theres no way we'd be the same team without him. throwing himself in front of the puck just shows his commitment, i can tell you from experience, it takes guts because you know its going to hurt everytime. he might not be the fastest but at 6,6 and 230 lbs hes never going to be Linford Christie, but what he lacks in speed he makes up with and more with effort and his intimidation factor. after receiving that big check at the weekend it really impressed me how he got up strait away looking for the puck and not to murder the player who just hit him like most tough guys would, a team guy through and through.

Maybe not MVP but he's been doing his job so far. He isn't the best skater, shooter, defender or anything on the side but i guess he's not here to do that.
