he is obviously having a VERY bad game On what basis do you say that? Im sorry but if any netty can let in 4 goals in a matter of 10 minutes, 5 in a period he is not having a good game! I know we cant blame it all on Lindsey and im not saying he should be blamed as the whole team is responsible. I do however feel even he would agree he had a very bad game but lets wait and see what the people watching the game say as my opinion is on the score only, nothing more

Seems we are very hard to beat. We won't just lay down and take a defeat. Excellent team spirit from what I can tell also. Another team performance tomorrow will do just nicely. Don't worry about Lindsay, we won. Any mistake he MAY (don't even know if he was at fault for any of the goals yet) have made will just count as experience. After all he save a penalty shot, so he played his part in the team. Nic pic Spuzz, quality photographer you got there . Finally, went to watch them up the M1 tonight, it wasn't the same Manchester team that showed up to the NIC last week that were playing tonight. They gave up in the 2nd and 3rd periods, so don't read too much into the scoreline.

Spot on thats what we haven't seen in a long time a team that never gives up and however late in the game it is fans will always have that little bit of hope that the game can still be won ;D This is the sort of team we were lead to believe Ellis was building and for the first time the coach has delivered what he was hyping up all off-season. Your not going to sue for copy right are you Rob?

It was a good overall performance from Panthers tonight, although the second period was shocking. First period we dominated the play, and although they had several breakaways Lindsay made some very good saves. At the other end Murphy kept the Caps in the game and went on to win Man of the Match. Point to note here is that Caps lost yet their netminder still got MOM. Panthers have a bad period and everyone who wasnt even at the game blames Lindsay
The second period was delayed as Hanson and Ellis had a "discussion" and the wheels soon came off. No sign of defence as we were hung out to dry all too often, and most of the Caps goals were scored following breakaways.
The third saw us step up and Lindsay's penalty shot save seemed to be the catalyst for us to get going again. Neilson was superb in motivating the team and getting us into overtime.
Hanson seemed a bit dodgy at times and a very dubious non-call led to some heated words between some Caps fans and a very well known Landlord.
The players were thrilled with the result, and will hopefully remember that you need to contest the game over all three periods.
Looking forward to the re-match now.

Quote from EIHL forums from a Capitals fan:
"well having returned from the game here in Edinburgh, i can say that Linsey played a great game, i think most of your fans that were here will agree that the big ice pad up here might have been the real reason we were able to get through on your net. there were far tooo many holes left wide open for us to get in on the net. certainly no problem with the way Linsey played from what i could see."

So sounds like Lindsay isnt to blame for the goals....wanna change that avator yet spuzz??
SOunds like a cracking game, glad my family up in Edinburgh can finally have a team to be proud off.But we have a team to sing praises off, to come back the way we have each game (i know we shouldnt be behind in first place) but it shows so much depth, character and team effort to do this. Just keep going at the net and scoring. only good things can come of this.
Lets Go Panthers Lets Go!

Personally, I'm not blaming Evan Lindsay all that much. A couple of their goals, he might have done more with them.... but they still may have beaten most netminders. A large part of it was IMHO the fact that he didn't have much of a defence in front of him... how many of their goals were breakaways? (and there was at least one 3-on-1 attack from the Caps).
I think the problem was the big ice. If the defence had done exactly the same, but on our ice pad, they'd have kept a lot more stuff away. But that extra 10ft or so width on the ice pad really opened things up... the slightest mistake (by either side) left huge exploitable gaps. The difference being.... last season's Caps team would not have exploited those gaps so well - this year's team are a totally different proposition. Do NOT expect this Edinburgh side to automatically retain the wooden spoon! The are based almost exclusively around speed and skill (and more speed) and -on their ice at least - that makes them a very tricky proposition to handle indeed.
Ryan Shmyr got MoM for us, although personally I'd have picked Jan Krajicek or Steve Simoes.... but special mention has to go to James Neil. He was absolutely stellar out there.... skating like mad, harrying the opposition, setting up plays... 16 years old? - doesn't play like it. Absolutely brilliant evening from him.
Tomorrow night's game should be interesting. With any luck, the team will be able to adapt their thinking and positioning to this larger ice surface, and thus allow far fewer opportunities. The offence, on the other hand - just keep on doing what you were doing tonight... skating hard, checking hard, and shooting like mad. Good stuff.
Overall, my impression was that we were a bit lucky to come away with two points tonight.... that poor second period really cost us - but the team shone through and worked their butts off. I'm actually glad that Edinburgh got a point... it would have been unjust for them to have walked away with nothing, I think.
Very entertaining, and hoping for more of the same tomorrow night.

not bad really, MWBs team would have rolled over and died at sort of a lead but this is the 3rd time we have come back from a 2 goal deficit. We did extremely well to come back like we did, we couldnt buy a goal for a time then 2 came in the last 5 mins or so. then the OT winner was a cracker. 1 on 1. Inredibly hard working to get our selves back into it. They deserved their point, we didnt fully deserve 2, not one bit. But as said, 2 points is 2 points.
Lindsay does not deserve the blame. MOST the goals I have seen on him have been when the D have left him out to dry because we have an attacking D. He made some great saves. REALLY doesnt deserve the amount of critisism heaped upon him.
Caps will suprise a few this season, they are very together on their own ice, not seen them away yet, but the size of their ice probably has something to do with it. People prediciting the 6-0s will not see anything like that from the caps this season.

Two points away from home, another team performance to come back from a second period mauling. A goal in the last minute to level the scores, no Blaisdell quit tactics and we win in overtime. Much more to be pleased about than to pick fault with in my opinion. I 've been hyper-critical of Panthers teams in the past but this lot have heart. Long may it continue.

Spuzz. If you're going to slag Lindsay off even though you weren't there (and the general consensus, from people actually at the game, is that he had a pretty good game, but was let down by the D) then can I suggest actually spelling his name correctly might give your opinions a nanogram or two more weight?
And, folks, I suspect that there won't be anything like an "easy" win this year, especially away form home. All teams, including Hull, which has surprised me, in a nice way, appear to be competitive at home. So far, underachievers look like Phoenix and Bison, with Cardiff, Hull and Edinburgh so far dumbfounding the critics. It will be a long and interesting season. I think both ends of the table will be very hard fought, judging by the results so far. We could easily lose tonight, and 2 points would be a reasonable return for the weekend. That said, let's hope we learn from last night.

Im heartened by the comments posted by the folks who were at the game.
I went to the Shuff game last night and Jonno told me that we were 3-5 down at the end of the second (much to Helen B's delight..you must get that women under control Jonno ;D)However unlike last year I had no concerns as I believed the team would come back. Now if it had been last season......
We conceeded 5, scored 6, and as the great Brian Clough used to say: 'As long as you score one more goal than the opposition, it doesnt matter how many the opposition score'.
2 points is 2 points and more importantly 2 points on the road.
