European venues tend to have the 'Ultras' section which is ALWAYS bar none behind the goals (as the video shows), the rest of the crowd dont make much noise (from my experience at a Frolunda game) but the 2-3000 behind the goal there make a deafening noise, the rest of the crowd arent needed. It would help if were allowed flags on poles and drums but thats a different matter.....

I agree with Nemesis, the atmosphere in Europe has to been experienced to be believed I saw Adler Mannheim (my team as I have a No 5 Stanton shirt) playing Koln Haie several years ago and it left our derbies in the shade for noise and ranting. Conversely I only ever experienced any real fan noise at an NHL game in the last 3 or 4 minutes in general one exception being Isles v Rangers :-) In the US I think its got a lot to do with the basketball mentality, where 95% of the game is irrelevant except the last 30 seconds or so even in league season where the focus is the playoffs so games can mean virtually nothing. This indifference is due to mass attention disorder in some cases the crowds just don't understand the game or the fact that any sporting event is much more of social occasion where the action goes on around the crowd who are mostly talking, drinking or eating. It has been a problem for Nottingham for years, even in the old barn it took a Sheffield game to get the crowd involved, even then only isolated blocks would make noise occasionally. Traditionally it was put down to our 'older' fan base but thats somewhat unfair IMHO, the other excuse used was that we were a 'knowledgeable' hockey fan base and as such didn't necessarily object to calls by the referee that those less troubled with the rules might object to and then become more vocal/noisy, in the early Sheffield definitely fell into that category, as do Coventry, where any and all calls can generate ire. I haven't been to the NIC much in the past 2 years but as I said in another thread I was really pleased to see the crowd in 9/10/11/12/13 getting involved in chants etc, it came as a pleasant surprise and has encouraged my family and I to go to as many games as possible this year. As a recent 'oldie' I have found the atmosphere definitely improved on the first few years at the NIC.

Loving the flag.....
Can you imagine the delay while old the old ladies in block 15 put their knitting back in their canvas bags to help unfurl it.
St Johns would be busy too, all those arthritic sprains.
All imho of course

Tat2MAtt, Not being patronising mate.I am just putting the other side of the story. Perhaps badly, without 'emotions' but you too can read back and see I was being jovial too. Depends on how eg) 'getting pasionate' is, when peeps may be 'tutting' at you (see the poor pun in my last message?) perhaps just as debateable as those older persons limited actions which younger persons are complaining of. They are only watching their game too. I realise your making observations Matt. But I never made original statements of 'older fans stopping atmosphere' as if these folk have a duty to do or else. You made you apologies thereafter and I apologise that my 'writings' offend in response. people are complaining of.

Hmmmm I'm not sure there is any real difference between Ted and Keefes dancing to "dad dancing" ....shouldn't be too hard for them to be convincing...... I will be watching from (yawn) block 16!!!! sweet, we need more songs...not chants..songs!!!! anyone got any ideas? Most people do not even join in the chants. You will have less than no chance of getting them to join in a song.

anything more than a word is beyond! Away matches are the best times to try and get things to take off because in general its a louder crowd travel then come home and and try them in the NIC

mate with blocks like 15 and 16 youll never get any atmosphere... I still cant beleive we were told to stop cheering. If we dont electrify the seats then the nes who dont want to cheer and dance shouldnt moan and complain when others actually want to make some noise. I like the idea of singing to the national anthem remember when we did it at the WNIR, no music. Just us. Forget the prawn sandwich brigade in blocks 15 and 16 what has got to be done is if you want to create a good noise all those who want to sing sit in the blocks behind the goal and once people see how good it can be many will join in ...and yes i know for a lot of people it means giving up your seat for one behind the goal but thats life
