A very depleted Lions took Whitley Warriors all the way tonight going down 6-8 with the 8th being an eng. Just cannot get that all important win but taking the second placed team the distance shows that this team is not that far adrift and worthy of some praise rather than criticism.

Massively important game on Sunday, hosting the ENL Coventry Blaze - this one could decide the fate of the Lions for next season!
Right now, we're in the relegation zone... Coventry are 2pts ahead of us, so if we beat them on Sunday - it's level-pegging and we've got a strong chance to stay up in ENL North 1. With all of the players lost through injury etc... the Lions have taken a bad beating this season, but last week's 14-goal scoring frenzy against second-placed Whitley Warriors (who eventually beat us 8-6) shows that this team cannot be counted out.
Face-off is at 7:15pm in the Olympic Rink... and the Lions REALLY need your support!
Ticket prices are as follows:- Adults – £5.00 Students (with NUS card) - £4.00 Children & OAP’s- £3.00 Panthers season ticket holders - £3.00 (Tickets available from the rear window of the box office just before the game)

Just had confirmation from the Lions team manager that tonight's game is definitely ON - Coventry are travelling up as normal. See you there?

Well, that was an interesting game!
The Lions ran out worthy winners, beating the ENL Coventry Blaze 4-0... Sam Gospel doing very well to earn his shutout. A nicely fired-up Lions team did what they do best... outskate and outwork the opposition (although Coventry weren't too shabby - they didn't make it easy!).
For those who like the rough stuff... you missed a somewhat physical encounter... two individual fights, then a line brawl with less than 30 seconds left. It seemed like we were standing around for ages while the stripeys were sorting out the penalties... then the Lions called a time-out... and before they could even think about dropping the puck, Coventry went and did the same! Never heard of that happening before...
Two valuable points, and now we've got Trafford Metros next Sunday, not long after the second Panthers game of the weekend vs Belfast (face-off 7:15pm). Could be fun...

And it's a full weekend for the Lions... travelling down to Telthug (Telford) Titans today, and then hosting the Trafford Metros on Sunday - face-off in the Olympic Rink scheduled for 7:15pm... any Panthers fans who want to stick around to get a double dose of hockey will be more than welcome, and remember that season ticket holders get £1 off...

After all of the disappointment over the weekend in the main arena... one result to bring a smile. Although the Lions went down to Telford on Saturday and came out on the bad side of an 8-3 bashing, they showed again what they can really do on Sunday. To be brutally honest, I was sort of expecting Trafford to beat us by 1 or 2 goals... but it just didn't happen. Maybe the return of rock-solid Alan Levers between the pipes had something to do with it... but whatever the reason, they fought hard and they fought well. End of first... 0-0. Not bad, I was thinking... not giving an inch. End of second... 0-0. Yerwot? NOT expecting that! Making them work for it, I thought. And then we score in the third... hey, getting at least a point out of this is looking good here, thinks I. Wait a minute.. a second goal? Now we're talking! And that's all she wrote... Trafford did the expected and pulled the goalie, but it didn't work for them, what little got through to Alan Levers was nicely stopped (didn't work for us either, despite a very near miss from extreme range at the empty net... oh well! . And 2 extremely valuable points in the bag. Next weekend off for the Lions (only the second such since the season began)... should give them time to recover from a few of the injury problems plaguing the team. Then it's hosting the Sheffield Spartans on Sunday 26th... and we all want to beat them, don't we?

The Nottingham Lions are delighted to announce that 17-year-old Danny Rose has been called up to the Great Britain Under-18's squad that will travel to the IIHF World Under 18s Division 2a Championships in Heerenveen, Holland on the 31st March. The week long tournament, will see the cream of Britain's young talent take on the likes of Lithuania, Korea and the hosts, Holland in a bid to gain promotion to IIHF Division 1. This is just another in a series of call-ups for the talented Nottingham born teenager, who has previously been selected for England Juniors and the Midland Conference select side. Rose, who has been playing the sport since he was five, has come through the ranks at Nottingham Ice Hockey Club and is currently icing for their Under-18's and their senior team, the Nottingham Lions. Lions General Manager Danny Harrison was obviously delighted to hear the news saying; "It's testament to all the hard work Danny has put in - he's had a great season so far and he's only going to get better with age and an experience like this will only benefit him further." "A lot of the credit also has to go to the brilliant coaches we have here at Nottingham Ice Hockey Club - he's been here since he was almost knee-high and all of our volunteers can rightly feel proud about the part they've played in getting Danny to where he is today - it's a proud day for the organisation and we hope many more youngsters here can follow in his footsteps in the not-too-distant future." www.nottinghamlionsenl.com

Apologies for not posting this before... been away. Sunday evening, very important Lions home game - hosting the Sheffield Spartans. OK, just having a Sheffield team as the opposition is enough to make it a 'must-win' but with ENL Coventry Blaze losing to Blackburn today, any points coming to us tomorrow will be more than valuable. 7:15pm face-off in the Olympic Rink.

A strong away performance for the Lions tonight... went up to Altrincham and beat the Trafford Metros 5-2 on their own ice. Not bad...
Unconfirmed reports that Joe Wightman scored 4 goals!

Just had the Lions team manager on the phone... it appears that due to some kind of traffic accident, the Blackburn team are running late getting to Nottingham, so face-off may well be delayed. Then again, it's usually delayed a bit due to the NIC not allowing enough time between the preceding junior games and ours, but hey ho.
At this time, we expect that the game will still be going ahead, just possibly starting later than normal. If possible, we will provide updates when we get them.

The last regular-season home game for the Lions is tomorrow night, after the Panthers game vs Braehead... details as per the poster shown above.
We had a good crowd against Blackburn last Sunday, unfortunately we didn't get the result we wanted. Would be nice to go out on a high - a win and a full house. Hope some of you can make it...

Is the relegation final on the arena rink for this game ? I will come down anyway, just so I can pass it info on.
Sunday 13th May - Lions v's Sutton Sting, unless the dates have changed ?

You're quite correct... In the main arena, and - for the first time ever, I believe - you can actually buy tickets in advance from the NIC box office.

A good signing for the Lions with the two way deal with the Panthers a real bonus. Sam Gospel a good prospect and the experience of Dan Green. I wonder how many of last season's players will be signing up for the 2012/13 campaign to help the push for promotion?

I've heard quite a lot of the 'senior' players won't be returning.

Well Pucky you might be right but as they say 'lets wait and see'. Perhaps this gives the up and coming players the opportunity to make their mark. It might also be time for some players to move on and make their mark elsewhere.

Great to welcome back senior player and current Captain Nick Whyatt. Nick had his most productive season of his career as well as concentrating on his new role when Chris Colegate got injured prior to Christmas. For more information visit www.nottinghamlionsenl.com

Another great capture for the Lions as senior player and top points scorer Joe Wightman puts pen to paper.
