Ndur won the fight, but then andre cant fight for toffee. But Robinson won a fight as well. Cruiker was pretty much defenceless. Again, as of last night when we have a full line up we will be stronger.

Again, as of last night when we have a full line up we will be stronger. Rangers will let Yourselves, Coventry, and Newcastle beat the hell out of each other. Should be a few bans in place by the time we get round to playing the three teams ;D Regards HL

Bans in place? Fighting gets a 5 minute major, not a ban. Which is the 3rd team that will be getting all these bans?
Onto the game.. Coventry much the better side as the scoreline reflects. Newcastle really missing some offence, with Longstaff and Ferone not icing. Carlson and Calder linked up well for Blaze (hat-trick for Calder) and Simonton looks very good at the back. Lots of minor penalties with the new rules, especially for Newcastle, though I am sure that will calm down quite quickly once the serious business starts. Well reffed by Carson and the least amount of questioning the calls I have ever seen in a game, which was very good to see and makes a very difficult job for the stripeys a bit easier.

Is a clampdown on dissent part of the zero tolerance rules? Just wondered as someone said there was little argument in the Sheffield-Hull game as well despite lots of picky calls. Personally, I hope we do see a reduction in players haranguing the officials - it got ridiculous at times last season, not helped by all the player coaches in the league.

I don't know about a clamp-down on dissent, bu there certainly should be! In some games over the last few years virtually every call has been argued/questioned by at least one player from the penalised side (often not someone with a C or A on the shirt). It is worse than Premiership footy at times. Carson never normally takes any back-chat anyway and Mihalik got an immediate extra 10 mins for a childish gesture yesterday. If this continues, players will stop - they won't want to sit out most of a period and then have the coach shout at them when they get back to the bench. Hopefully it will apply equally to coaches as well. I've noticed on several threads on various forums, comments about picky/pedantic calls or refs 'calling everything in sight' etc. Even now do people understand the meaning of ZERO tolerance? You dont have to hook someone 3 times or haul them down anymore for it to be a penalty! Put your stick on an opponent and it's a penalty, doesn't matter if you didnt pull them back, slash them etc. Why would you put a stick on them if not to impede or try to impede? Just don't do it and there will be no call! That's not picky, it's zero tolerance - ie it will not be tolerated... at all. End of. By definition you can't half-do zero tolerance. I think most players are learning already, and the teams who have had pre-season games should be best prepared. I am expecting some serious booing of the refs for Belfasts 2 games this weekend (Nottingham and Coventry) as most fans won't have seen zero tolerance 'live' and with their team involved. Same goes for other sides who haven't had any home pre-season games. I do expect it to calm down though, for players, coaches and fans. I certainly hope so, the games appear to have been faster than normal when played 5 on 5 and there should be more hitting with the new rules clamping down on interference. Games played with both hands on sticks and sticks on the ice will be a good thing IMO.
