I take a look at the next crucial eight games will define the Panthers season. Eight GamesNoticed this jono.. "I won’t make predictions, however if we are to achieve the Holy Grail of a league title then we have to at the very least win five of the seven league games, preferably all seven, but with the Giants and Blaze games being away from home is going to be a major ask, especially when you consider that in four EIHL away games against the Blaze & Giants, we have won only once." We haven't one any of the league games mate. The one we won at Coventry was in the Challenge Cup.

After a trip to see a couple of DEL games in Cologne and Dusselsorf, I've written on The Cat's Whiskers about how the game is different over there, and how the Panthers/Steelers rivalry can't really be described as the biggest in Europe. The Biggest Rivalry in Europe?

Good bit of writing there, Jono...
And it's not just Germany, neither. Supporting GB at the Worlds in Slovenia in 2007, I saw they needed armed police to keep apart fans of rival club teams - all of whom were supposedly there supporting the national team, but seemed more interested in hostilities between themselves! And don't even mention the Croatian fans back in 2003... that was scary. The only thing that seemed to be stopping some of them going to war with each other was their mutual hatred of us!
British ice hockey and its fans have a long way to go before even beginning to approach European fans for intensity.

I went to see a SEL game back in 2003 between Jonkoping and HV71, terraces behind each goal, flares, they pretty much hated each other.

I saw the World Champs in Germany in 2001, we were based in Cologne and saw the Germans reach the Quarter Finals. The atmosphere was like nothing I've experienced (and I've been to a Maple Leafs vs. Canadiens game and that was pretty intense!)
The German fans were awesome, didn't stop chanting, singing and drumming from the second they got in the arena until well after the game ended!
I'd love to see a DEL game in Cologne!

I was at one of the games in the 2006 Czech play off finals between Sparta and Slavia Prague. There were 15,000 fans, sparklers, flares, cat calls, chanting, the lot - they did not get along.
I know a lot of hockey fans don't like football, but this was like the best kind of football atmosphere - really intense, but I didn't find it threatening (mind you, I couldn't understand what they were shouting at each other!).
IMHO, it was a bigger rivalry than Panthers v Steelers.

Just like last year, we're offering free T-Shirt designs for the play-offs. Just click, print and then iron on a plain T-Shirt. Five designs are on the link below, hopefully more will follow Play-off T-Shirt designs
