![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) HOLYHEAD, Wales - A man who dressed up as Darth Vader, wearing a garbage bag for a cape, and assaulted the founders of a group calling itself the Jedi church was given a suspended sentence Tuesday. Arwel Wynne Hughes, 27, attacked Jedi church founder Barney Jones — aka Master Jonba Hehol — with a metal crutch, hitting him on the head, prosecutors told Holyhead Magistrates' Court. He also whacked Jones' 18-year-old cousin, Michael Jones — known as Master Mormi Hehol — bruising his thigh in the March 25 incident, prosecutors said. The two cousins and Barney Jones' brother, Daniel, set up the Church of Jediism, Anglesey order, last year. Jedi is the faith followed by some of the central characters in the "Star Wars" films. The group, which claims about 30 members, says on its Web site that it uses "insight and knowledge" from the films as "a guide to living a better and more worthwhile life." "We all love the films and what they stand for. Obviously some people are going to laugh about it," the Wales on Sunday newspaper quoted Barney Jones as saying last month. "But a lot of people do take it seriously." Unfortunately for Hughes, his March attack was recorded on a video camera that the cousins had set up to film themselves in a light saber battle. "Darth Vader! Jedis!" Hughes shouted as he approached. Hughes claimed he couldn't remember the incident, having drunk the better part of a 2 1/2-gallon (10-liter) box of wine beforehand. "He knows his behavior was wrong and didn't want it to happen but he has no recollection of it," said Hughes' lawyer, Frances Jones. District Judge Andrew Shaw sentenced Hughes to two months in jail but suspended the sentence for one year. He also ordered Hughes to pay $195 to each of his victims and $117 in court costs. In the 2001 United Kingdom census, 390,000 — 0.7 percent of the population — listed Jedi as their religion. I always knew the Welsh were a bit funny

that was a couple of weeks ago now I read that.
Funny story in one sense but also a bit disturbing, essentially it is attacking someone for their beliefs....
I still laughed though.

that was a couple of weeks ago now I read that. Funny story in one sense but also a bit disturbing, essentially it is attacking someone for their beliefs.... I still laughed though. i disagree with the bit about attacking people because of their beliefs bit ted, maybe i missed the point and you were messing about, but in my opinion (and being a star wars nut) i found it hilarious. if i actually believed they followed what bits from the films they know as a faith, they look from the video as a bunch of guys that are star wars enthusiasts. if there are people who set up a jedi council, then theoretically (according to what goes on in the films) they will have enemies, this guy took it upon himself to have a laugh. those jedi's need to man up. the bit of the video that really made me laugh was 'aah that actually quite hurt', tell that to obiwan you mardarse. i mean lets face it, its all well and good having fancy sabre skills, but to not even bother defending yourselves against your mortal enemies is a joke. i praise the darth vader bloke for testing those so called jedi's and outing them as little girls.

just to correct the comment about the welsh bit you must understand that the people from anglesey are described in the same terms as i gather people from ilkestone are, they are supposed to have a novel idea about keeping it in the family!
i can only assume this is one of your jokes without smilies buster, you surely dont condone anyone being attacked because of their beliefs!

I find it comical in the fact its 'Jedis' but from the story I read these guys were quite serious about their Jedi 'faith'.
While... doing whatever the hell Jedis do someone attacked them seemingly only because they were 'Jedis'. The fact the attacker got dressed up tells you its pre meditated.
Replace Jedi with Christian/Muslim/Sikh/Jew etc and it probably wouldn't be so funny.
But of course... by your reckoning unexpectedly attacking someone with stick is a way to make them 'man up'.... do you think the same of people who jump someone else on a friday night in town? The victim shouldnt moan because they should 'stop being such a girl'.
My mate got jumped, smacked with something heavy (possibly a sock full of coins), fractured his cheek to such a degree the he has a metal plate in his face. But he should complain and be a mardarse about it. The attackers were 'having a laugh'.
My old manager, permanently deaf in one ear after 2 drunken thugs beat him round the head with a traffic cone for the fact hes asian. I imagine that actually 'quite hurt'.
Might be worth asking some of the guys here what its like to be unexpectedly hit in the face with a stick.
The fact its Darth Vader attacking 2 Jedis.... yes ha ha.... amusing in the context. The fact it is essentially a drunk attacking 2 innocent guys with a stick.... not quite so funny.
Think about what you are actually writing and people will stop thinking your such a prat.

seriously guy, way to take my reply way out of context.
but allow me to indulge your reply. you talk about race yeah? let me pose this to you, in the films, the jedi's and the sith follow the same beliefs (religion if you will) but have different perspectives on it, does this sound familiar to any religion here in the real world? sharing principles and god but having different standpoints on them? oh yeah, thats most major religions isn't it?
so, in the films, what we have is essentially a holy war, you know, attacking someone based solely upon their beliefs, but of course thats not bad at all is it? because thats entertainment, right? (see how im taking your reply waaaay out of context? i can do it too). so when theres good there is bad, dark there is light etc etc, surely these 'jedis' would have to expect mortal enemies because of who they are. that came in the form of a stick weilding darth vader. who, from what i saw on the video, didnt hit them that hard at all.
if they want to play magical space wizards, then shouldnt they expect the bad magical space wizards to show up if they are playing at them accurately (ie starting a jedi church, playing role play to a next level, shouldnt they expect someone else to play the bad guy?).
i never said that hitting someone with a stick is a way to make another man up. your putting words into my mouth. i meant that they should stop complaining. in my opinion, getting a 'dink' on the head (like i saw in the video) isnt the same as getting a sock full of coins to the face or being beaten with a cone. its a bump to the head. the assualt is clear as day, and the fact stands that darth vader shouldnt have done what he did, but the severity of the beating doesnt hold a candle to the instances you posted about.

Your basing it purely on the fact that they are Jedis and Darth Vader, fact of it is, 2 guys playing Jedi or whatever. Some drunk assaults them with a stick. He wasnt part of their religion or whever the hell you want to call it. It doesnt matter what relationship they have in the film.... effectively you are saying its ok to this because they did it in the films. Real life doesnt quite work like that.

Ted's response is valid. initial reaction is "it is funny" but when you break it down, it is wrong. As Ted says, they are group of guys following a "faith" (you may quibble on its origins, history but the fact remains these guys believe it) being attacked by a non believer, arguably a believer in a different faith.
To take The point to an extreme level. I assume you believe that the London bombers deserve everything thats coming to them? surely that is a similar thing to this. 1 religious group attacking another?
