at 6,6 he isnt going to be fast but hes definetely here for more than fighting and blocking the netty, im fully expecting him to contribute with some points.
scared of Clothier, BS
would imagine if the the player who blindsided Moran last night had come out for the third we might have seen a bit more activity from him.

We`ve been craving a proper tough guy since the departure of JC(88).Now we have Ryan Shmyr.
Big as he is,can this bloke do the business with the proper heavyweights and send a signal out to back off of our smaller players?
Has anybody done any research on him and his fighting abilities? I read that he was supposed to have been voted the best fighter in the league in the CHL.Is this something to shout about? As I know very little about that league.
When we`ve had proper enforcers before, they`ve generally been one of(if not the)toughest in the league:Nieckar,Norris,Wood,Craighead. Is this guy as tough as we hope he is? I don`t want to see the likes of Payette or Cornish knocking us about again. This isn`t meant as a dig at Ryan Shmyr, far from it.I just want to know a bit more about him and was hoping that some of the fight fans on here might be able to shed a bit more light on him.

I've also heard that he was voted fighter of the year in the CHL, which is the league Cornish, Payette, Voth etc came from - so he should be enough for our league certainly.
I've always been of the opinion though that it doesn't really matter how tough you are - how brave you are is far more important. Let's face it, he's massive, and if he catches you it's gonna hurt, regardless of how good a fighter he is. If he's brave and always willing to go, that should be enough of a deterrent.

I think everyone is going for the wait and see option as its hard to say really We have heard no end about how Clouthier will be the toughest in the league and how players are all ready scared of him! This from the steelers fans who if he isn't as special as they think he is will look VERY stupid Id rather let him prove how good he is then hype him up and make out hes unbeatable! I have no doubt he will show us what hes made of throughout the season so lets just see shell we ;D

Ryan is the biggest (stocky wise). But he is tall and very intimidating. I guess the fact he isn't so beefy helps his skating. but talking to little Andy, Cornish isn't much beefier and he does well.
So lets suck it and see....

With a average height of this side being over 6"1 and add to that the physical presence and Neilson, krajicek Simoes and Smhyr DO YOU really think we re likely to get pushed around this time?

No,proberbly not. What I`m hoping for(if the truth be known) is that he`s up to the job of dishing out some well overdue beatings to the likes of Cornish and Payette. For the last two seasons, those two have caused many a nights "sinking feelings"in the pit of my stomach as they have hammered and intimidated our players, time and time again And I`m really hoping that this season is payback time!!! I remember seeing Payette pushing, punching, sticking, insulting and hitting our players time and time again last year and I admit that I want to see him knocked into next week. Remember Cornish`s antics with Darling after he was layed on the ice with a dislocated shoulder and he went to hit him while he was on the floor? Nasty piece of work and another in need of a pounding!!

I thought Cornish had the chance to keep throwing punches but stopped. That's defo how it looked on video too... Shmyr will do his job ok, but I doubt he'll go round handing out beatings to all the other hardmen. Some he'll win, some he'll lose - same with anyone. If he can keep up with Stevens and Clarke he might contribute a bit in other ways too, although I wouldnt expect too much in terms of points.
BTW - at that open training he certainly didnt look his alleged 6'6" - both Neilson and Krajicek (both 6'5") looked taller and wider. Still big enough though.

When I saw him for the sponsor photos, he looked really slender. Dunno, why but I expected him to have more muscle???
He is likely 16 1/2 stone because of how tall he is. But I ain't moaning, because the balance between slenderness and muscle that he does have would make him a better skater anyway.

Have you guys met him off the ice? He looks slender because he is muscle, he is carrying no fat at all. Im 6'4/6'5 and hes defo taller, 6'6/6'7 and as for build...lets just say I wudnt like him to get a good grip of my jersey!

I`ve got the game highlights on DVD.Dion pulled Cornish down with him when he realised what had happened, then Cornish looked puzzled but after pausing for a moment as he was stood over him,he then pulled his fist back as he was stooped over him and the Linesmen dragged him off.Total muppet!!

Smear would easily have the better of andre in a scrap. Still unsure why more people don't have a go I've only ever seen him beat Cote and an injured Darling in a scrap. The rest of our tough guys would be a bigger challenge. Fern regulaly had the better of jason smear, and would expect JC and Brantt to be too much as well. Bet Robinson v smear would be a tight tussle mind!

As regards to how good an enforcer is, last month I was on an American Ice Hockey Forum, can't remember which, where they were haing a discussion about Enforcers, and a couple of people voted Shmyr as one of the top THREE Enforcers in the whole of hockey.
As they said, its not about being the hardest fighter, the role of Enforcer contains many roles......
Edit: and he certainly didn't look to be taking ANY crap at Bracknell

I hope that's the case... if it is, then we've got a good one.
