I like the look of these changes, although (and this may surprise some of you) I would prefer two fights and you're out. 5 mins for the first, 5+G for the second. Me too Stef - 2 fights is more than enough. Not a fan of shootouts either - would rather play 3 on 3 overtime. But otherwise I like the new rules, particularly the restrictions on line changes - should keep the game moving.

Penalties will go sudden death surely until someone misses. The other team will then get the extra point. Rob thanks rob,at first i thought that but read it again and it does not make clear if the penalty shots will continue until a miss occurs or we have a natural winner. It only states that"there will be a best of 3 penalty shoot out" Not a big issue,it might just be badly worded,im just trying to clarify this new change If we are following the NHL rules as it seems we mya well be rule 89b.4 states (NOTE 4) Each team will be given three shots, unless the outcome is determined earlier in the shootout. After each team has taken three shots, if the score remains tied, the shootout will proceed to a "sudden death" format. No player may shoot twice until everyone who is eligible has shot

Touch icing for me should be put on trial first. If a shed load of injuries occur, then scrap it. Otherwise keep it. Keeps the play alive. It never caused a shed load of injuries in the ISL, I can't see any reason why it would in the EIHL. Really happy with the new rules. Looks like they've thought them through this time. I've always preferred touch icing. A team relying on line icing is incredibly boring to watch and makes the game seem very slow. All the new rules seem designed to keep the teams moving and chasing. Hull under Strachan could struggle at first but at least they should be more entertaining than previously! So do we have any final say on whether it's just one round of best of three penalties or a shoot out to a win? I'd read it as the former but I can see how it could be taken the other way.

Spot on. 2 fights is enough. 3 is just too over the top. there are times when a fight is needed to keep a player in check or to make a stand for youe team. But anyone who feels the need to fight 3 times in a game is just looking for trouble and shouldn't be on the ice at all! Either that or it's because the ref has totally lost control of the game, which wouldn't supprise me. Injuries shouldnt occur when this rule is played in a pro league. Introduce it to junior, enl or epl and maybe. But i suppose you will get one idiot somewhere along the line! Step forward Mr Payette

Touch icing - fantastic decision. Been moaning about how boring line icing makes the game for several seasons now. With one or two speedy players on the roster this could help our offensive game. Of course, we also need to hope that our D-men are very mobile and quick on the turn for when it goes the other way. Presumably coaches had an inkling of what rules would be adopted before they made their signings?
As for fighting, I certainly like to see the odd altercation but I feel that "three and you're out" is a bit excessive. Two would have been fine. It just seems a licence to drop the gloves. Whatever happened to "two majors = automatic game misconduct" anyway?
Not sure about the line change stuff - it should make the game faster and stop teams icing the puck constantly to wind down the clock but it will take some getting used to, for players, coaches and spectators I think. Refs have enough trouble hurrying the coaches up and enforcing "home team has last change", so this will be a big challenge for them.

With further thought, this aint going to be a good first half to the season. The refs are going to be calling EVERYTHING (hell, the NHL refs got it wrong to begin with and they're 10x better than ours) and it's going to be pp after pp after pp. 5 on 5 hockey will be non-existant.

and it's going to be pp after pp after pp. 5 on 5 hockey will be non-existant. Presumably that'll be the case - it was in the NHL, but the teams adjusted to the rules surprisingly quickly. As long as the rules are enforced firmly and consistently then most players should be able to adjust within the first couple of months.
