Your prediction looks a bit more likely now, Martin. I'm waiting for the window to close, ManUre sign no new striker and then Saha and Ole get the annual injury! Well, I'm not sure they'll sign a new striker and I'm not convinced they'll get Hargreaves either. They're more likely to sign a striker in January if things aren't going to plan. They already have Rooney, Saha, Solskjaer, Smith and Rossi. Apparently, the Chinese wonderkid 'Dong', who has been on loan at Antwerp for 2 years gets his EU Belgian nationality in November and could return to Old Trafford in December. He's looked mustard the last 2 pre seasons. On a positive note though, Alan Smith may get a 10 min run out on Saturday after his horrific leg break. Apparently he'll be back as a striker. he's already got his old Leeds look back with the bleach blonde hair. I read on the BBC that Smith could play the whole game but Sir Alex is likely to take his time, like with Ole Gunner. Speaking of horrific, did anyone see Ben Thatcher and Pedro Mendes last night??

If you don't sign a striker then you better pray you stay clear of injuries. Rooney, Saha, Solskjaer, Smith and Rossi is not a class group of strikers. Hell only Rooney played any meaningful part in the FWC. Saha and Ole are injury prone and if Saha gets injured on the 1st Sept you're screwed. Remember Man U need to be on top of the table come January due to their fixture list.

Apparently only 1 of the 20 EPL clubs made a net profit in tranx dealings this Summer. So what does that tell us about the Glazers??!

It'd be a naive man to rule Man Utd out because they didnt spend big yesterday.
Man Utd have a good squad of versatile players.
Like most teams, they can cope with 3-4 injuries then it becomes a problem.
I have full faith in Sir Alex and the current squad. As previosuly stated I think they'll strengthen in January.

Martin You lack some depth in midfield. The main issue is up-front. Saha and Ole are injury prone. If Saha gets hurt then you're gonna struggle big-time til January. You're very vulnerable to injuries and you lack a top-class goal scorer.

My old mate Karl Heinz Rumourmonger tells me that maybe Pompey don't have quite as much money as people thought. Maybe a little warning to Hammers everywhere.

What a thoroughly nice bloke news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/chelsea/5314292.stmChelsea say they sold William Gallas because he threatened to score an own goal if he was selected for their first game of the season.
The Stamford Bridge club have released a statement explaining their reasons for allowing the French defender to join Arsenal on transfer deadline day.
Gallas, 29, allegedly refused to play again for the Blues.
Chelsea claim he said he would score an own goal if he was forced to play against Manchester City on 20 August.
The statement says Gallas initially refused to play against Liverpool in last season's FA Cup semi-final and that, if selected to play against City, he threatened to score an own goal, get sent off or make deliberate mistakes.
Gallas was heavily criticised by Blues boss Jose Mourinho earlier in the summer when he failed to report for pre-season training on Chelsea' pre-season tour of America. The French defender eventually joined the Gunners in a cash-plus-player exchange deal for Ashley Cole.
The full club statmement read: "Chelsea believes it is important for our supporters to be made aware of the full facts regarding William Gallas and the lack of respect he showed to the fans, the manager and the club.
"Despite leaving he continues to attack José Mourinho and this cannot be left unchallenged.
"Chelsea made William Gallas a very substantial and attractive new contract offer to stay towards the end of last season. This was rejected. "The issue was purely one of money, despite his public comments that he wanted a new challenge, to play abroad and so forth. These were just a smokescreen to cover up the fact he was hawking himself to the highest bidder.
"Having failed to secure his demands, his position became increasingly intransigent and unacceptable.
"He initially refused to play against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final last season in an effort to force an increased contract offer.
"As is now well documented he refused to join up with the team in Los Angeles during pre-season, despite agreeing the dates for his return as the other World Cup players did, with the club.
"When Jose Mourinho generously offered him a way back into the 'family' after the American tour, this was thrown back in the Chelsea manager's face.
"The manager told him that, even if he did not agree a new contract but returned to the "family" and abided by the rules, he would still select the best players available and would not punish him playing wise. "However despite meetings to try and resolve the problems Gallas made it clear to Jose Mourinho he would never play for Chelsea again.
"Before the first game of the season against Manchester City, when only four defenders were available and John Terry was doubtful with an injury, he refused to play.
"He went on to threaten that if he was forced to play, or if he was disciplined and financially punished for his breach of the rules, that he could score an own goal or get himself sent off, or make deliberate mistakes.
"Clearly this was a totally unacceptable situation for the manager, the team and the club. So a collectively agreed solution in Chelsea's interests had to be found, hence his departure.
"Chelsea has a wage structure in place that is valued not only on the contribution of the player to the manager and the team, but also on a player's respect for the club and contribution to the promotion and image of the club off the field. Every player is expected to play their part in this.
"William Gallas rarely recognised these responsibilities.
"He also failed to recognise the role Jose Mourinho and Chelsea played in helping him become a double Premiership champion for a player whose only league title prior to that had been in the French Second Division."
Gallas has not responded to Chelsea's claims but when he initially told the Blues in May that he wanted to leave, he said it was because he wanted to "experience another league" and that his request was "not a question of money".

Gallas has denied it.
Considering the Ashley Cole and Barcelona business in the past, I wouldn't believe anything Chelsea claim.

I'm surprised Chelsea feel the need to start something like this, even if there is truth in what is being alleged. They've got the player they've pursued for 18 months, move on guys, you'll feel much better for it...

Most people would have responded with their lawyer within minutes. He is threatening it. But he won't for two reasons. Arsenal don't want one of their players upset by Chelsea for the next year. That plays into Chelsea's hands just like with Cole. Imagine the sort of lawyers that Roman can afford!

Well it's Super Sunday Classico next week and it could be the biggest weekend of the season.
Liverpool and Arsenal have terrible EPL records v Chelsea and Man U. Especially away. I fully expect Chelsea and Man U to win again which means that Liverpool and Arsenal will be out of the title race.
Gotta hope Liverpool and Arsenal can avoid defeat and stop it from becoming a two-horse race. Ironically enough I actually think that would be in Man Utd's favour too as I don't think they can win the title in a long head-to-head battle with Chelsea. They need Arsenal and Liverpool to make it a four-way dogfight.

Sissoko should've gone before Ballack rightly walked. Gerrard should've had a pen after being fouled by the Plank. Crouch should've started. Drogba was excellent and Chelsea were the better team when it was eleven v eleven. Arsenal are 4 out of 4 when Henry hasn't played. They deserved to win and exposed Man U as being no that good. All good news for Chelsea. The win keeps Arsenal and Liv's title hopes alive. Lehman's save from Ole was awesome. West Ham fans should be more worried about their team than who Roeder is waving at. 8 months ago people were crazily calling for him as England coach. Now Pearce may be a cople of games from the sack. Same old Spurs. ;D Final thought, why did Fergie choose to leave Rooney out of the team.......?!

Every club has its muppets but "why didn't you die three years ago?" is beyond sick.
Chelsea may be docked 3 points for tapping-up.

I can see why Smith would want to go out on loan and i can see why many championship teams would want him... what i cant fathom is why Man U are happy to have their striking options reduced any furthur? With Rossi at Newcastle and Solskjaer injured wouldnt Smith going out on loan leave them with just Rooney and Saha available as out and out strikers?

They could recall players and Scholes and Ronaldo can play up front with Saha. Not sure they can with Rooney. I wonder if Man U's financial mess is biting.
