Cardiff's rink will not be ready on 1st Sept as expected and they will have to play the first month, and possibly some of the second month on the road.

Fingers crossed for them

Didn't something similar happen when Belfast first entered the league? Yes. The first time I saw us play them was in Coventry. Part of the Echo article suggests that one option will be to host games at Basingstoke until the new rink is ready. I hope it all works out for them. Losing the Cardiff Devils if only for one season would be awful.

yea but its a 230 mile round trip and 6 hours for them...
Is that really the closest place available to play?

I agree that losing Cardiff after so many seasons with them in the hockey wilderness would be areal shame, especially as we've just got the league up too 10 teams

How big is the rink at Bristol and has it any seating? Not a chance they could use bristol! for starters there isnt any seating, or non as such. the only place to watch is from the bar! There isnt any parking at the arena, however it is attached to frogmore street car park, but that is the busiest car park in bristol and a nightmare to get in! More importantly, the ice is dangerous, and as such, i doubt the league would let them play there! The rink is on the first floor, above the bristol carling acadamy, and is always having problems with the plant, this coupled with the leaking roof makes the ice dangerous. Often you will skate around the rink and there are sections coned off and buckets on the ice catching water! When the water drops onto the ice it makes like little mole hills on the ice, which are hard to see!!! Also, John Nike in his wisdom, uses bristol for his ice karting, so soft ice is and understatement! In short, bristol ice rink is the most unusable rink in the uk, and it smells really bad!!! Wouldnt cardiff be able to do a deal with the hallam fm arena? what with the 2 being one and the same team now.

I agree about the last paragraph dude, if it comes to it im sure theyll play at hallam arena and Bob will come out and beg fans of the steelers and panthers to support cardiff. Re bristol, I cant comment but I wudnt say its the worst rink, you ever been to sutton ice rink in the summer?! Iv heard its a bit better nowdays but Itd still be hilarious seeing an EIHL game there!

This is really disappointing but given recent photos of both Cardiff & Manchester, not totally surprising.
The whole situation is endemic in UK Ice Hockey. Players will be put off by this fiasco in the same way that they were when wages were not paid.
Correct me if I am wrong but I can't remember a season when a team did not appear at the start, went bust in the middle or collapsed at the end. So long as this is allowed to continue, doubts will hover over British Ice Hockey.
I am now waiting for an announcement from Manchester and one from Edinburgh. Would you bet aginst me? Very worrying and possible sad.

Well its good news for Cardiff!! This is from the Devils forum
Essentially, this is what was said:
* Deal made between PI and Devils for next 3 years * Rink may not be ready til 22/29 Oct * Could mean 7 weeks on the road * Basingstoke offered as possible home location * Basingstoke can also used for training * Double headers or two home games a week later in the season possibly * 100 club - 500 pounds etc - someone else who knows more will have to fill you in about it, but I would like to say a big well done to those who have completed the forms, there was about 42 returned I believe. * PI offered External sponsorship deal to the Devils, will bring in funds for Devils, offer with a major company at the moment * 4 new players named, only one I can confirm the spelling of is Mark Smith
