So Shuff have
Tessier, Ricci, Sutter.
Lots of celebrations from up the road, but lets look at the facts:
Tessier: We have Stevens - played 3 season is the 2nd Tier in Germany 178 games, 175 points. Tessier played one season in the 2nd Tier of the German league 57 games, 48 points.
Stevens had 3 seasons with the Giants in the ISL 121 games 95 points - a good return for a guy in a then rookie team to the ISL.
Tessier did 25 games 36 points iun the EIHL (inferior to the ISL).
Oh did I mention Stevens stays loyal (average 3 seasons a club) to his team. Tessier....
Ricci: Solid stay at home D-man, . We have Mike Rees. also stay at home man. Not much between them.
Sutter: Well what do you say. Welch booted out (Coventry figures: 41 games 46 points), Sutter for Nottingham: 37 games 31 points), has only once in his career exceeded a point a game over a season.
We have Petricko, played 57 points 62). Indeed exceeded a point a game whilst at Bracknell in the Cross over games.
Tessier - team player? I'll let you make a judgment, Indeed Sutter a team player - hmmm? I would say that Ricci was the only real team player of the 3.
The three guys I've mentioned: Team players through and through, indeed thts one of the reasons Ellis signed them.
Blaisdall, sorry I mean Mastos, may wax lyrically about these ex Panthers, but quietly, with no fuss, I firmly believe Mike Ellis has signed 'replacements' who IMHO exceed what we originally had.
Regards
HL

No disrespect meant HL but what's the point starting another thread like this?
Let's worry about the Panthers and not who the Steelers are recruiting, all will be resolved by next April anyway!

Well said. You may be correct in your evaluation, HL...... but does it really matter? We have our team, they're getting theirs.... and we'll find out soon enough who's better who's best! ;D

The idea was to cut through the hype and nonsense and just put a few facts and figures down. For sure stats and damn lies come to mind, but I think the comparrison is fair and gives another prespective to the picture. Regards HL

The whole forum will go into meltdown again soon when a load of Steelers decide to come posting on here. The amount of stuff that you pair post on Steelers forum is far worse than a lot come back on here with. You are just sending an open invitation to them.

Regards HL Are there only Sheffield and Nottingham in the EIHL these days? I would have thought you're better comparing your roster with either Coventry or Belfast, because they'll probably be the 2 teams you need to finish ahead of if you want to win the league. Looking at all the rosters I can see Sheffield and Nottingham battling it out for 3rd and 4th place. I think your focus is in the wrong area HL Regards Doom

I think your focus is in the wrong area HL Regards Doom Doom I was only using the comparison in the ex Panthers -Sheffield debate(s) rather than an EIHL overall debate. As for Belfast and Coventry, I'm going to disagree with you me friend. For sure Coventry look as though they have a 2 decent lines, but I don't think the 3rd line is anything to write home about. I'm not particularly thrilled with their D-outfit either. Belfast. To be honest, I think they will struggle. Theres a number ofhigh class players in the team, but the trouble they areindividuals. Dutes can't be considerd a team-player, I doubt Awada will show the same form. Belfast have a lot of 'expensive' eggs in one basket. I would suggest the remainder of thier roster will be made up of make-weights, which I don't think will see them through the season. I ceratinly believe that Shuff will finish above Belfast, and will easily compete with Coventry. My team. Lets just say I'm looking forward to the season immensly Regards HL

Out of the 3 ex- Panthers that have gone up the M1, the only one that i wish wasn`t pulling on a steelers shirt is Scott Ricci.

I agree with Doom.
Whilst we are all arguing about who has better fans, a better team and larger fathers, another team in the league will capture the title.
Why ? Cos on Saturday, all the players put their heart and soul into the game against Sheffield and we win 2 points. On Sunday, we travel to Basingstoke and get stuffed 4-1. Happens every year because the rivalry is hyped up so much.
FWIW, Steelers putting together a team made up of 3 teams who were pretty rubbish last year (Sheffield, Nottingham and Cardiff) isn't going to pull up any trees.
Panthers - solid yes but no real quality. You can't expect 3 players to score all the points (Nelson, Stevens and McAslan).
If Nottingham and Sheffield get a trophy between them, it will have been a good season in our area judging by the last few years!!

Let's not forget this 'Tessier' guy IS the same player you lot were wetting yourselves over last season...

Panthers - solid yes but no real quality. You can't expect 3 players to score all the points (Nelson, Stevens and McAslan). Don't think anybody is expecting those three to "score all the points" or even anything near it. After all:- - Matus Petricko - 8th highest ponts scorer in the EIHL last season with 23+38 - David Clarke - had a bad year last season with 14+13 (injuries and MWB?) but 9th highest league scorer the previous season with 31+30 (joint 3rd highest goalscorer) - At least 3 other players who should comfortably be able to chip in with 15-20 goals, maybe more... Krajicek, Simoes & Emersic - And quite frankly, I expect that we're likely to get more out of the younger Brits as well than last year - Myers (10), Cooke (4), Moran (2). If (as I suspect) Ellis mixes the lines right, we're going to have scoring threats on all 3 lines... no breathers for the opposition here, it will hopefully be pressure on them at all times. That kind of thing is a points multiplier...
