They could always freeze that MASSIVE puddle that turns up on the cockerel-pit island everytime someone walks past with a glass of water!

This rumour circulates every now and then along with Leicester having a team.

Unfortunately, even if they could build a rink and get a team together, they couldn't enter the EIHL, as it is based on an area franchise system, and Mr Black owns the East Midlands franchise.
Why don't they move this phantom Derby squad down to Tamworth, build a rink next to the Snowdome, and develop the EIHL West Midlands franchise?
Also, this made me think what you would call a Derby ice hockey team? The Derby Rams is too obvious - how about the Derby Pride or the Derby Railmen?

Hence the keeness of the Cardiff Devils owner and the EIHL to buy the Steelers from Norton Lea earlier in the season. and to register the Steelers name in case another team started up at IceSheffield. And to enter into the spirit - The Derby Tups? The Derby Ducks?

The Derby Lambs? The Derby Sheep *******? The Derby **********? I dont like Derby, end of. I'm not mad keen on the city of Derby, either - but yet again, you go way too far. There are, I believe, a fair few Panthers fans on this very forum who are from Derby - if you had even the merest spark of decency about you, you would apologise to each and every one of them. You are, IMHO, a disgrace to this forum and our fanbase. I don't see the need for gratuitous insults either Shaggy, hence the edit to the quote within your post - MP

I live in Long Eaton Derbyshire , and have suported Panthers since the early eighties . Cut my arm off and it reads Panthers . Anyway back to topic , Derby I think would not have a ice rink being as our Arena is so close by . Leicester is another story . If the rugby team joins up with Leicester city to share the walker stadium , this would release council land that the rugby club is on for a Ice rink of say 5000 seater

Where would they put the Rink at Derby. All the Pride Park land I believe is allocated, and I cant think of any other obvious sites. Having said that there maybe land where a semi-permenant ice rink (aka Manxchester)maybe based. But I don think the fanbase is there unless everyone who lives in Derbyshire who watches ice hockey is obliged to watch the new team HL

i think the problem will be that all or most of the hockey fans from Derby already support the Panthers, i know this is the case for most of my Derby-dwelling family at least. A Leicester side would be viable, i dont think a Derby team ever will without massive advertising funds and nous shown, the two teams are just too close for such a minor sport as ice hockey.
By the way, check your PM's Shaggy...

For many of the same reasons already given above, I don't think a top-league team would be viable in Derby.
Perhaps a junior setup, however? If there were plans to build a small general purpose rink, there would be players wanting to rent ice time. Ashfield has a rink, but it's a joke for ice hockey. NIC is usually booked solid with the existing teams, dancers, speed skaters and general skating.
I'm sure there's land available around the A38 from Derby to Burton that's not green belt and can be used to develop commercial/leisure facilities. Or maybe even around the UCI/Morrisons area of Sir Frank Whittle Way.
I'm not holding my breath, though.
