Nice win for the SENS over the Oilers last night, with the SENS nicking it in a penalty shoot-out (Ottawa scoring twice & Oilers failing to score). Dany Heatley, also got back into the points, after seemingly a baron spell of a few games. Nice to see Ottawa hitting a good vein of form ahead of the play-offs too.

looks like the leafs fell due to the netminders of both teams. Thomas 0-44 either great netminding or soft shooting. Raycroft 3-13 not xactly inspiring! but im sure if im wrong someone will let me know. According to the reports Thomas wasn't required to do any thing spectacular. Having watched the highlights, a post saved him on a 5 on 3 early on in the 1st, and the Leafs missed a gaping net at 1-0 down. Raycroft has been outstanding recently - he made a double save in the last few seconds of the game against the Oilers on Saturday night - and has started 21 consecutive games. He'd be disappointed with the 3 goals that went in, but that's Hockey! Poor showing by Raycroft last night by all accounts & the 2nd goal was dreadful, even worse than the NYI's GWG against the Pens the other night. As for Raycroft's consecutive starts, I'm not happy about it but Maurice seems to have zero confidence in Aubin

We beat you 6-1 though Pidge, hang your heads Did you know we had our 4th choice nettie in that night as Hasek and Osgood were injured, Jimm Howard opted to play for the griffins , so that left Joey Macdonald

Ah christ, the Flyers are enfuriating. Fight back from 2-0 down in Carolina only to lose to a SH OT goal just 16 seconds in. Grrrrrr

Toronto beat Philadelphia 5-2 tonight, jumping out to a 3-0 lead & never looked back. Kinda' worried that Kubina was out with a busted finger but Wozniewski came in and did a great job.
Flyers traded Alexei Zhitnik after the game for defenseman Braydon Coburn.

Flyers traded Alexei Zhitnik after the game for defenseman Braydon Coburn. Disappointed we've let Zhitnik go, he was one of few defensemen actually doing his job. Still, he wasn't getting any younger and he wants to play in the play-offs, good luck to him. People have criticised Holmgren but he's managed to get a decent return for Forsberg and he's also managed to turn Freddy Meyer into Braydon Coburn, i'm pretty happy with that! Thinking more about it, we've also dropped 3.5 million from the wage bill, we're going to be killer in the UFA market this summer, we could have about $25 million to spend. You played a decent game last night. I tried to send you a link to watch the game live but apparently i'm blocked from sending you PM's, whatever. We just weren't at the races and you scored some good goals. The Flyers side is just terrible.

As for the game itself, I don't think the result was ever in doubt as the Flyers weren't in it until the latter stages of the 2nd and by that time the Leafs were 2-0 and then got a lucky break when Jones lost his footing allowing Kilger to skate in on a one-on-one. I also think Kapanen's goal was a softie that Raycroft should have stopped, but either way we did what we had to do to get the win.

I wasn't overly impressed with Raycroft throughout, is he your back-up or number one?
The word that's coming out of the Flyers HQ is that we're going to be making a major bid for Giguere in the summer. I'd love it if we got him.

We need a top - end nettie Dan to be fair.
I've defended both Esche and Niitty previuosly on here but whilst they're both capable between the pipes we need an out and out #1
Not too bothered who but a high profile name.

There's one or two number one goalies on UFA's this season and we desperately need one of them. As adequate as Nitty may be, we can't expect to rebuild properly with him or Esche in goal. They're just too inconsistent. Giguere as number one with Nitty understudy would be mouth-watering. We'll also probably make a serious bid for a stay-at-home top line D-man to play alongside Pits, someone in the Rathje/Zhitnik role that was working pretty well recently. Heaven knows who this man will be. We can afford him anyway, if we manage to move Calder then we'll have the most money to splash by a good distance. Oh, and Dallas have claimed Baumgartner from us on re-entry waivers. No great loss.

Raycroft is our first choice goalie, and despite in his earlier inconsistency in the season, he's been generally solid for us especially since the All star break. Toronto fans have been lucky in that we had two genuine super star goalies in Joseph (4 year stint) & then Belfour who was very good for two of his three seasons with us. Andrew Raycroft isn't a super star, but he's still young for a goalie and Maurice has said the training staff are happy to help him develop. I think he's earning his $2m salary.

Typical. Calder took forever to score for us! He'll do well for you i think, it's all about the confidence.
We pulled a 4-1 deficit back in Long Island only to lose 6-5 in OT. Typical again.

Tellqvist's fate was decided last season when he played two dreadful games against the Habs when a play off spot was there for the taking. I said when we dealt him to Phoenix that it was a trade I was unahppy with and given Aubin's play, I stand by it even more. Having said that, Pogge is a our future goalie but I did like Tellqvist as a Leaf all the same.

SENS completed a 'double' over the current holders of the Stanley Cup, beating them 4 - 2 in Carolina, & 2 - 0 last night in Ottawa. We are apparently the Nuber 1 inform team at the mo, winning 8 of the last 9 games. Long may it last
