Yes I've heard of him...
Your post seems more like it's giving info though didn't know you were expecting a response. Why the angry smily?

Has anybody actually heard of him? Yup, I've heard if him Rumours the mob may take action against him That seems to be the norm with all Russian sports, not just hockey. There were rumours that the Russian mafia were after Andrei Kanchelskis when he played for Man U & Everton, and Alex Mogilny was threatened to have his knee caps shot out by the man who helped him defect from the USSR. Comparable situation to Roman Lychenko(R.I.P) How is the situation comparable too him?

Isn't Malkin the Russian who lost the plot in the Junior Worlds?
Came up with some very nasty little moves.

He left his home team after signing a longer contract with them and fled the country to play in a higher level in the US, and also had mob connections which in alot of peoples views led to his "suicide"

It doesn't however mean it's true. Lyashenko was drafted by a veteren laden Dallas team, couldn't break into the roster because of too much depth and got traded to the Rangers, where again his playing time was limited. Rumours were he was depressed about not playing, and or, that he had contracted AIDS. Either way a sad way to end one's life, slashing your wrists and then hanging yourself with a belt.

Thats where the rumours started, as Lyashenko stated in his suicide letter that he had an incurable disease but nothing was found such as AIDs or cancer, but yes a very sad way to die.

That tsn article appears to put much of the blame at the foot of Metallurg and the Russians, although I read an article the other day, that basically infered that the NHL had blood on their hands in this messy affair too.
Nothing new on that score, as the NHL taking Russian talent on the cheap since 1993.

If the Russian Federation won't agree to any kind of trading agreement with the NHL, what can NHL teams do about it though?
Especially if the player actually wants to go to NHL.

I don't think it's that they wont set anything up with the NHL, it's more the NHL are trying to do things on the cheap. Apparently the NHL offered to pay $200,000 for the release of Malkin, but the Russians wanted $500,000 It's not like that $300,000 is too much for the NHL. The problem is that I don't think the Russian teams are right to stand in the way of a player if he wants to go to the NHL, but the NHL has to realise that since the break up of the USSR, hockey in that country isn't in particularly good shape. I remember in an article in Canadian Sports Illustrated, that basically ran a nice big article about how Russian kids didn't idolize their own star players anymore, it was all Jagr, Messier etc etc. Metallurg have to think of their own best interests at the end of the day. I will say this though, that perhaps both sides have forgotten that Malkin is still a young man. Tough situation

I heard they wanted in the region of $2 Mill USD for malkin.
Malkin also had a Canadien Visa, maybe because it's easier to get a Canadien one then an American one, but I think he got it so he could stay with Ovey.

MAlkin even offered to pay Metallurg a substantial amount of cash out of his own pocket.

Either way it's an unpleasant situation, especially for a player so young & talented as Malkin.
