Been having problems with my knee culminating in a loud POP and excruciating pain on Sunday training. Been to the doc's today and been given the bad news. Top and bottom of it is..... A severe cartilage tear and compounding of the joint coupled with degeneration of the knee-cap. 8 - 12 weeks off minimum Oh.....and apparently I also have a broken rib that is healing badly and becoming calloused!! Was due for my first start this weekend as well.

Nem, I totally feel for you mate!!!
I was in Sweden at a hockey tournament. In one of the practice sessions I collided with someone, fell and heard/felt this loud crack/snap. Wasn't sure if it was my knee or leg pad, but everyone on the bench heard it!! I looked at my knee and checked that all the angles were correct... lets face it, there are some scary photos going around. I knew straight away something was wrong.
Had a nice trip to A&E!!! Long and the short of it, I've torn my medial ligament in my knee. I'll be out for 2-3 months, having physio on it and an endoscopy next week to see if an operation is necessary. I can tell you... it kills, the pain is awful!!
I hope you get better soon, but make sure it is totally healed first before going on the ice again. Build up the strength in your knee... its frustrating I know!!!
Get well soon xxxx

Ooooooooouch! That sounds very nasty Neil with a lengthy spell of discomfort ahead of you. I'm beginning to think I made the right choice when I started learning to ride last year - I've survived unscathed so far (not even a bruise when I fell off whilst cantering) where as you hockey types seem to be picking up some nasty injuries. All the best mate - hope you heal well and quickly and get back between the pipes soon.

Nem, how you getting on? I got my MRI results today. I don't have any cartilage problems, just a partial tear to the MCL (medial) and to the sack/capsule that surrounds the knee. I did say I was going for an endoscopy until I called to book it, and the lady kindly pointed out that was for your stomach!! Physio told me... 6 weeks and I'll be back on the ice. It will be a long 6 weeks Rach xx
