Is it still there and can it still support an ice hockey team??
i was wondering because the millenium dome is meant to be converted to an arena (but NO ice now) and i guesss that will take most of teh concert and all that.
would that not free up some space there for the london racers or another london team??

Been to quite a few gigs at Wembley Arena, & that is it's main function...as a concert venue. It has events on most days, so there is the issue of regular availability. Also, it's a HUGE venue, & the cost involved in renting it on a regular basis would be sky high, & with the crowds London Racers get, not a viable option me thinks.

Just for my own interest .... anyone know what crowds the Knights were pulling in before they folded?

By all accounts one figure is much less than the other. On a good Sunday with plenty of 'promotional' tickets they sometimes nudged 4,000. On a Thursday evening they struggled to reach 2,000.

Last time I went to Wembley Arena was about 18 months ago, and I remember thinking how ramshackle and cramped it seemed compared to the new arenas where hockey is played at the moment. OK, so concerts get a bigger crowd than hockey but it seemed to be a venue in decline. Can't see it being a viable location for regular club hockey to be honest, although I would love to have another final there (if only for old time's sake).

It certainly is a dump now...shame really. I went to see 'The Doors' last July @ the Wemley Arena, & in my opinion it now wants knocking down, like the Old Stadium.

Seemed really pokey in the corridors under the seats. Not to mention the fact that the catering made the NIC look like top quality stuff at knock down prices.

Thanks Tom, And is it fair to say that a large proportion of today's Racers fans were among those 2000 paying Knights' customers? My thoughts were heading towards the old question 'can London support two teams' ... but with those kinda figures it's a pretty daft question.

I did a bit of digging around last night - the Knights' average attendances for the 2002-23, 2001-02 and 2000-01 seasons were 3,115, 3,149 and 3,284 respectively.
