And the in the ENL North, the Nottingham Lions had a closer-than-should-have-been victory (5-4) over the Sunderland Chiefs. The scoreline should have been much more in our favour - nearer 9-2 I would have thought - but for their very impressive (and deserved MoM) goalie who faced over 50 shots, and some very dodgy defending by us.
Still - another 2 points is never unwelcome, and there was some sweet attacking play from our lads! ;D

Match Reports off Elite League website: Edinburgh 3 Coventry Blaze 4 Cross League Cardiff Devils1 Belfast Giants 2 (OT) Elite League It took Belfast Giants just 24 seconds of overtime to claim both points against Cardiff Devils. A tightly fought game, which saw Giants’ Shane Johnson receive a game penalty for roughing in the second period, saw no goals until the 52nd minute. Tony Hand scored an unassisted goal at 52.25, but despite Cardiff’s 18 shots in the final period, they could only find the net once, when Dave Matsos scored at 57.38 to take the game into overtime. Fredrik Nasvall, with assists from Curt Bowen and Roman Gavalier, settled it for the visitors. Coventry Blaze hung on to beat Edinburgh Captials 4-3 in a game where their indiscipline threatened to undermine them. Blaze conceded three powerplay goals, the last to a Ratislav Bohme goal just over a minute from time. Laurie Dunbar opened the scoring for the home side in the fourth minute, with Andre Payette levelling ten minutes later. A shorthanded goal from Dan Carlson midway through the second period handed Coventry the lead, only for Steven Lynch to equalise. Ashley Tait completed a neat move for Coventry's third at 48.41, while Carlson's second of the night was scored two minutes later. Blaze held on for a nervous win to end their Scottish weekend with four points.

All in all not a bad night out for a fiver.

Yeah - their netminder was stellar.... kept them in the game which got him the MoM ahead of #15 Allinson (who otherwise would have got it for a hat-trick). Apparently that netminder did just the same in the away game at Sunderland in September - kept it down to a 2-0 win for the Lions. #1 Richard Lawson...... could be one to keep an eye on, we might be seeing him at a higher level in the future. That was Tom Griffiths, who got the MoM award for the Lions. ;D

That was Tom Griffiths, who got the MoM award for the Lions. ;D Thanks for clearing up Toms surname(Griffiths)Was probably just about deserving of the award overall. As for young Neil Lawson of Sunderland I feel he has everything in his locker to play at a higher level.A lot may depend on his chosen career path(i.e does he actually want to play hockey for a living or not?) onl;y he himself knows the answer to that.Another factor is who's watching these games,do scouts for bigger clubs attend?I would like to see what his save% is at the end of the season and compare it to,say Lions or Flintshires, who concede fewer goals in total, but also face fewer shots. I feel Sunderland should be given a little bit of credit for making a game of it.it would have been easy for them to throw in the proverbial towel at 4 - 1 down with more than half the game still remaining.Whatever their coach said in their time-out at the midway point certainly had an effect One final word from me about last night. I will definately attend another Lions game, although a quick scan of the fixtures has revealed that the only other regular season game I can attend is the Flintshire game on Jan 9th.
