Scottish Weekend - who going and where staying?

Whos is going and where are you staying?

We are going - 5 in our car on way up - that includes Runnerbean and Tvrdon#29

We are staying at Holiday in Corstorphine Road anyone else?

Wondered if anyone staying there wanted to get a minibus to the games?

Myself and Caps Webmaster are flying up from East Mids on the Saturday morning (too lazy to drive - and SleazyJet are probably cheaper! LOL).
We're crashing at an Edinburgh friend's place, so no hotel bill as well! ;D

We are staying in Kirkcaldy on Saturday night in a B+B, driving down to Edinburgh Sunday morning. 4 in a car including Pink Panther.

Big thank you to Nuttyrockeress and to Chris (Ellis) for making it possible for runnerbean to go to Scotland!

We're going by car to visit friends on the way, which meant runnerbean would need two days off school (not possible with 'mocks' looming). However, thanks to Nuttyrockeress for taking her on Saturday morning, and to Chris for driving her straight to school from NEMA, as we got the single early flight from Edinburgh for only £15.

Yep, i'm going too & taking my daughter. We're staying at the Royal Hotel in Kirkcaldy which is about a 15 min walk from the rink. Hoping to recreate a bit of the Amiens atmosphere, so let's hope we can find a Bar big enough to hold a few dozen Gold & Black ;D

I'm staying in Travel Lodge in East Edinborough, not ideal for drinking but best I could find at short notice.

Mrs. BH and I are going, along with another couple and their son.

Our itinery is:

Leave approx. 8am Saturday morning (I'll be driving).

Arrive as early pm as poss. and leave the car at the Travel Inn (not sure where.....Mrs. BH, who's from Edinburgh, did all the arranging !).

Go to Weatherspoons on George Street for the afternoon.

Get the train from Edinburgh to Kirkaldy around 5pm.

Find a pub / taxi to the rink.

Watch game.

Train back to Edinburgh.

Bed (after the odd night-cap).

Get up Sunday.....visit relatives etc. / the German Market on Princes Street and other touristy things.

Bus to Murrayfield.

Watch game.

Bus back to centre of Edinburgh.

Night-caps.

Bed.

Travel leisurely home on Monday.

Really looking forward to it.....even if I do have to visit in-laws !!!

ooh now there is an idea, How much is train from Edinborough to Kirkcaldy and is it easy to get on and what not? i could leave car in edinborough and then at least could drink during the game instead of waiting till about 11ish after driving back from fife.

That was the idea, DoUrden, to leave the car upon arrival and travel via train / bus / taxi, thereby increasing capacity for liquid refreshment of an alcoholic nature (and as I'm the driver, I can make that rule !).

I do have to do a bit of driving on Sunday, as we're staying in a Travel Lodge on Sunday evening (as opposed to the Travel Inn on Saturday (as Mrs. BH, being Scottish, looked around for the best deal !).

Anyway, re the train, were catching from Edinburgh to Kirkaldy is £6 return (adult), £3 return child.

It leaves Edinburgh Waverley @17:05, arriving @ Kirkcaldy @ 17:39. Apparently where Flyers play is a couple of miles from the railway station, so may need a taxi, although I think face-off is 19:15 so plenty of time to stagger from pub to pub (if there are any en route!).

Returns from Kirkcaldy (leaves @ 22:50) to Edinburgh (arrives @ 23:28).

There are other trains (i.e. leaving Edinburgh a bit later), but we thought these were the more convenient ones for us. We booked our tickets on t'internet (www.thetrainline.com), but there'll be no problem just paying at the station if you decide to use the train (in the same way both Fife and Edinburgh reckon there'll be no problem getting tickets to the games 'on the night' !).

Thanks a lot for all the info but I think that may be a little late. I wanna get back from Fife as early as possible to maximise time out drinking In Edinborough for our gang. So I'm guessing it may be a bit quicker driving and I'll just have to sacrifice personal drinking time and just let the others have a few for me till i've done with drivinf for the night.

A return from Edinburgh to Kirkcaldy shouldn't be much more than £5 or £6. I'm at Uni in Edinburgh, so I do it when I can't drive to go watch the Flyers.

I walked from the station to the rink the other week, but it's about 30-40 minutes, and you run the risk of freezing to death, so a taxi is warmly recommended. And the doors open at 18:30, so I'd recommend getting to the rink by then.

I'll let you know if I'm getting the train though - can't beat some hockey-banter on the train, can you?

I'll be there. Travelling up by train on Saturday morning and stopping in a hotel just off Princes Street.

I too will be catch the train out to Kirkcaldy, I'm relying on public transport all weekend!! Looking forward to it!! So where are we all going drinking in Edinburgh?

I stayed there in April when I went to Edinburgh with my other half (Kassie32) for Tony Hand's testimonial at Murrayfield.

I think the Travel Inn is actually called Queens Crossing, a 2 minute walk from the road bridge, 1 minute from McDonalds and about 3 mins walk from 24 hour Tesco's, Burger King and a very nice Frankie & Benny's (where I took Kassie for a lovely meal)

And a lovely view of the Forth Rail Bridge.

Oh, and easy access to Fife/Kircaldy as well as Edinburgh, good choice matey

If you guys are kicking about in Edinburgh for a day, then you're not short of stuff to do. I'm a Fifer through and through, (before anybody calls me a Caps fan!) but I'm at Uni in Edinburgh, so here goes....

Right in the centre of town, you've got Princes Street, and Princes Street gardens. Next to that, there's the (rather large) Scott Monument, and the Castle. Plenty shopping/drinking/sightseeing to be done.

If you're around in the afternoon, there's the possibility you could come watch my roller hockey team (Edinburgh Uni) playing somewhere in the city (not got a venue sorted yet!), to make the Scottish hockey experience even more complete! ;D

We're staying in Livingston where the accommodation is free, but we'll meet up with you all - somewhere - sometime!

I guess with lots of us driving back on the Monday morning, we could all meet up and take over a motorway service station ;D

Depends on what you're looking for. Most of the ones I frequent are around the Uni/George Square area (about 10 minutes walk from Princes Street) - there's pubs and clubs of all flavours to be found there. Failing that, there's George Street and Rose Street (just to the other side of Princes Street), which have even more.

If you're going for clubs, my choice would be Opium - decent (non-dancey) music all the time. Not too bad. If cheesy 80s and pop is your bag, then the Three Sisters is probably the way forward. Failing that, Espionage is pretty good, apparently.

For Pubs, the best ones IMO are the Pear Tree (big beer garden, complete with heaters next to the parasols), which is just next to the Uni campus. Near there are the Blind Poet, and Counting House, also good, if a tad similar. They're next to Centraal, which serves a lot of eclectic continental beers.

If you're around the Royal Mile/Old Town, then not only will you be around a minutes walk from the Parliament building, but you'll have literally hundreds of establishments to blow your hard earned cash in! The Tron is a particular fave of mine - 3 bars, 4 floors, really, really cheap drinks (with a Yellow Card!), and a decent atmosphere.

For sports - Belushi's (near Waverly Station) is the way to go. During the summer, they had all the games from the World Cup of Hockey on a massive big screen, 'cause they've got NASN for North American sports.

If you end up in a pub called Drouthy Neebors or the Junction, you're 2 minutes from my front door!
