He'll be wearing #76 according to ME last night. This is because if/when Calle steps in he won't wear any number other than 77 Simoes' usual number is #12 but he'll be wearing #13, as James Neil wears 12! Ah, that seems a little clearer now!

Cracking report there Shaggy.
You know what though, to me the little story about shirt numbers above speaks volumes about the kind of players we are signing:
Shirt numbers can be a big deal for some players, many of them 'mega-stars' with huge egos, but to hear that Neilson and Simoes are both willing to give up their numbers is very encouraging - both could have easily demanded theirs, but chose not to. A mark of a proper team player IMO.

A couple of other things that came to mind.....
- The open training session. GM was saying about the reactions of the players last year... "2000 fans at a training session? - are you KIDDING?". Seems it gobsmacked several of them, having so many people turn up and cheer them - and that before the season has even started.
- The league as a war of attrition. ME has a definite plan in mind involving fitness and checking... basically to be able to outlast the other teams over the long haul. Be fitter than them, and just keep on hitting, hitting, hitting.... just wipe them out with bodychecks over the season. As he says - by the time that you get to the final quarter of the regular season, it's fitness and attitude more than skill that determines the winners. Simoes, Shmyr, Neilson - all big hitters... and will hopefully inspire the rest of the players to keep on hitting. Mention was made of the classic hip-check and open-ice hitting (and how they are so rare these days) - ME hinted that we may be seeing a lot more of such... nice!
- ME appears to be confident that Danny Meyers will be able to more than hold his own in the EIHL. Has quite a bit of confidence in the other Brits as well. Somehow I get the feeling that Clarkie will be more comfortable with ME than with MWB. Ellis also is very impressed with Cookie - think we may be seeing quite a lot more of him out on the ice.

James Neil will be wearing #12 because that was apparently his grandfather's number? Nice bit of tradition there.... its nice knowing that he is a big player is not taking advantage of james neil and respects 12 is his number, i like that, jus shows a certain kind of sportsmanship.

Lucid, eloquent and informative Shaggy, thanks. Ellis certainly seems to come with a very firm idea of what he wants in players and the team. Good. Simoes is starting to sound a bit like a certain Mr Bezeau to me.... Wow, if he is, he could be the signing of the season. I loved to hate Andy Bezeau. Pure entertainment.

Well done shaggy!
Killed the thread... summed up everything perfectly.
ME defiantely knows what we the fans want as well it seems. Alayed (sp?... is it even a word?) a lot of fears. Calle seemed very positive.
Other things....
- Our last guy is meant to be one of the better than Tess and Stevens is the other (who we are assured still has his blistering speed)
- Simoes and Schmyr can play hockey..... which is great. They arent goon. They are intelligent with it. (a side note.... when asked about our 'Tough guys' the response Schmyr gave was 'Payette? No problem. Cornish is a tough character though'
- COntracts and Tess going. All clubs across the league have a standard contract that includes the 2 week clause that can be given either way. On top of that, the players arent allowed to leave to go to another club in Britain (mentioned here before a while back).... but also that players are breaking their contract if they speak to a club before handing their notice in.
(old new to some im sure but it might be news to some)
I know some will be spin and they arent gonna say anything negative. Its still gonna be a suck it and see but it all seems to be slotting together.

I was chatting to Calle afterwards, and he's not fanatically wedded to #77 (he's worn #23 and #55 previously - but gave the latter up for Stephen Cooper?) - I gather it was more of a case of Corey Neilson volunteering to drop to #76 once he heard someone already had a claim on #77, rather than Calle insisting on it... Looks like cc77 may reappear sometime on the forum Think i might be the only person wearing carlsson 77 on a 06/07 season shirt. ;D Anyway everything sounds good, just can`t wait now,
