Made me laugh to see them on e-bay. Geldof thinks the sellers are scum. So the question is Bob, can I go into Virgin and take home all your albums without paying for them? Will you just drop the debt?
Sanctimonious jackass who doesn't have a clue about Africa.

As for tickets, damn you won, i/family/friends entered about 12 times and havn't had anything back yet... ah well.... we have till the 15th As for selling tickets to Live8 on Ebay... i think its absolutly pathetic that people are tryign to make money out of charity event, i thought Ebay where going to stop it, but looks like there going to let it happen. Ebay released an announcement 2 days ago saying they're doing a "u-turn" and are allowing the sale of Live8 Tickets.
It was along the lines of - If you won them, you own them. And therefore have the right to decide to sell them on or not.
Ebay want people to sell the tickets. Can you imaging how much of a "final listing fee" ebay will recieve from the money?

Live 8 isn't a charity concert like Live Aid was. It's more of a political concert and so profiting from the tickets is reasonable. Live 8 isn't losing any money from this so why worry?
I was OTT in saying Geldof doesn't have a clue. What I find annoying is his high and mighty attitude where if you don't agree with him then somehow you don't care. Many genuine experts feel that he does more harm then good.
And as Damon Albarn said, where's the African music artists? You can guarantee anyone who performs on the concert will see a big spike in the cd sales.

No it's not an aim to make money, but i think theres a strong moral argument aginats selling such tickets on Ebay. I have no problem if someone buys a ticket to any gig then finds out they can't go and sells them, what i can't stand is people who buy them intent of rippign people off.
As for Geldoff, yes he is fairly high and mighty, and there if a lack of ethnic groups playing in the concert, which i agree should have been adressed differently. yet the aim of such a Western line up ios to attract attention. The thing that gets me is these concerts/events seem to look at after as a poor, failing place we should feel sorry for, there seems to be no greater understanding off how Africa works. Yet i think a majority of the British public will understand, or react to a simple message.
Geldoff gets mass interest in the siuation, which has got to be good for the cause. Yet it shadows over long term charities/organisations who help in Africa, and seems to portray an image that if we keep giving Africa will get better, which is completly false.

Damon Albarn?. Why must they have a quota of black/ethnic people?. The actual cause is for African/Ethnic/Black People. I am NOT against anyone one being there, but I would like to think they were there on merit, rather than purely coz they are black.
Things like this REALLY get on my tits. Every so often they have a 'Black Comedy Festival' @ Nottingham Playhouse. There is also a 'Black Theatre Group' who regularly perform at venues like the Royal Concert Hall. Can you imagine the OUTRAGE there would be if they had a 'White Comedy Festival'?. Jeeez... you can't even hang an England flag outside your house these days without it upsetting some ethnic group. Equality works BOTH ways!

Equality works BOTH ways! I agree with your second paragraph. What Damon was getting at was that surely African musicians should be involved in an African cause. Especially as it would give them huge publicity and therefore increase their wealth. Which is what this is supposed to be about. Of course the Africans don't have to be black since Africa is not a black continent. Which is why term 'African American' for blacks is a stupid expression.

Why do people have grudges with ticket touts? They buy a product and then sell it on for a profit. Just like shops and other businesses do and have done for centuries. It's the sort of thing that African countries need to do.

I have NO problems with people buying tickets off touts if that's what THEY want to do. I personally think it's wrong, but that's just my view. I was lucky enough to get a ticket to see my fave band U2 @ Cardiff (Ok - not to everyones taste). However, the systems for tickets were swamped by people not actually wanting to see the band, but to make huge profits. I am already making money for the band, crew, & ticket agencies. Should someone who wasn't lucky enough to get a ticket, pay rip off prices to someone who possibly prevented them from getting tickets?. I don't think so.

I agree totally with what Wigwams said. Especially for things like U2 (whichwas ridiculous prices anyway), or Glastonbury.... why should people who want to go be cut off with people tryign to make money? Its a pathetic way to make a living, ripping off true fans. You say its just like shops? well surely bookign offices are the shops, the touts are just rip-off merchants.

When Man Utd have more demand for tickets then they have supply (such as at Cardiff) they have loyalty systems in place so the genuine fans get tickets. Why can't bands like U2 do similar things? Touts are just traders. Simple laws of supply and demand. The market always finds the right price and Adam Smith would say that the tickets are on sale for too cheap a price. Good old fashioned capitalism. Incidentally, talking of people being allegedly ripped off: shameful!

I'm sorry sunny mate, there is no place for touts just rip off merchants if you ask me, I agree 100% with Wiggers. Touts go out of their way to get tickets that genuine fans want simply to charge those very same genuine fans rip off prices for the tickets they stopped them getting. Totally wrong. Bands DO have big fan clubs to ensure people have a fair chance of getting tickets BUT U2 are quite possibly the biggest band in the world...demand outstrips supply and by law the MAJORITY of tickets HAVE to go on general sale. A mate of mine had to fight to get his tickets as a long term member of the U2 fan club and only just managed it. FWIW the Red Sox are constantly battling with touts picking up tickets for every game at Fenway and sticking them on ebay. $20 bleacher seats are always on there for $60 or so, the Sox are desperately trying to stop them but they can't. The same goes for most clubs in baseball and in many other sports as well, its just clearer in baseball because they play every day. People are virtually making a living by, essentially, ripping off genuine consumers by selling at a heavily inflated price. The fact is touts are on the make from the very people they stop getting tickets at the proper prices and I'm very surprised if ANYONE can honestly say its fair, its not, touts are a disgrace IMO. Oh and mate the analogy with shops is daft, its nothing like that at all, shops are regulated touts certainly are NOT, so thats a non starter argument. The fact people buy from touts is a totally seperate issue which I won't even go into. Sunny, no offence mate but the way in which you're defending touts makes you sound like you are one!

I have every sympathy with what you say Andy. At the end of the day though it comes down to human nature and the law of supply and demand. A proportion of human kind is greedy and another section are prepared to pay over the odds for what they want. One serves the other - or preys on them according to how you view it. If people stopped paying above face value for tickets then ticket touts would disappear overnight.
