Just to muddy the waters it might be the 27th as well. I'm hoping to talk to the NIC a bit later to try & confirm the date. As soon as we've got a confirmed date we'll let you know & the real fun can commence.

Alternatively, how much are PinkPanther & Nutty prepared to pay to have you banned from the building? ;D

I went to the Panthers kit sale yesterday, most of the stuff had gone, and the bits that were left wern't so good. I got a stick shaft (did have a blade on but took it off as its a lefty). Not sure who's it was. someone who is left handed and very tall. its a TPS stick.

Sorry to break the unbridled happiness (and before someone goes and says it, I am in NO way opposed to this event occuring), but this is getting very, very touchy, feelly for my liking.
What does my opinion matter you're probably asking, well it might not matter one bit, but this is all getting very cliquey as I see it. As a long-term Panther (hence the username), I wouldn't mind a crack at this, but it seems that 75% of those signed up know one another personally/socially and have managed to drag this thread out to ten pages, promising to do this and that during the game to their mates.
You'll probably not give a hoot about what I have to say, but please bare in mind that as someone who has always traditionally viewed this site as opposed to contributing to it, the closeness (bordering on sickliness) of this even to me puts up huge barriers in terms of participation, and that is why I will probably be sadly giving this event a miss. I guess that you'll say the rosters are nicely near-capacity, but maybe there are a few more guys (and girls) like me who feel majorly put off with all the 'cliquey' stuff.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on this one.

erattsjockstrap You actually make a valid point, and one which both sides should make sure they avoid.
I dunno how you would avoid and cliques ending up, a few training sessions, meeting up fo a skate around, so folk can get to know eachover?
Good post!!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on this one. OK I'll bite because this post has made me furious, which is why I've signed in as me rather than as part of The Rink Rush. What's touchy, feely? The Rec hockey circuit is hardly massive, alot of the players will know each other. As for your accusation "but it seems that 75% of those signed up know one another personally/socially" sorry but that's rubbish. We posted the same message on both forums at the same time, the rosters we're going to be filled on a first come/first served basis. I'm helping organising the event and I honestly do not know 11 players out of the Nottingham roster, and about 3 people on the Sheffield one! (and yes, I do play rec hockey). This is going to be a serious game for a trophy, it's Nottingham v Sheffield for gods sake! Also what you don't see are the e-mails we get. The guy who wants to play because his brother died of cancer, the mother who wants her son to be mascot because cancer has affected her family so badly. The main focus of all this is to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK, period. I know you're entitled to an opinion but personally I find it offensive.

at the end of the day.... its hardly an elitest club where anyone is excluded becuase they arent with the in crowd.
Its a rather sweeping generalisation to say everyone will be hanging out in their own little groups not talking to anyone
(I really hope its not like Derbymusic all over again)

Hey, where did I ever rubbish the motives that lie behind this? You'll find that I haven't, and if you really want to know, I think it's a great idea (isn't any for charity?). I put into the Rink Rush buckets on the night you returned from your efforts, but all i'm doing is pointing out that it feels cliquey, not rubbishing the event, far from it. I would feel uneasy stepping into an event where most folks had 'previous' experience of playing together/sociallising together, and I reckon that I won't be the only one. You're well within your rights to tell me to clear off though, but I just thought i'd offer my take on this.

Well im not available on the 6th, but the rest of the month i am. Think towards the end of august would be better as most people will be finished with summer holidays as the kids will be nearing the start of school terms.
As for the event being cliquey, i only know two of the players. Rich because he signed for the lions (if only briefly!) and shane moore. And as for Shane, he is coming up from Swindon and wont know any of the players! He is only playing because he has been affected by cancer, as have most people. And that is what this event is about. I want to make it as good as possible so we can make it an annual event and raise thousands of pounds on a regular basis!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news on this one. I think thats rubbish, yeah i will probably know alot of people helping and playing because I have played in Nottingham and sheffield in Rec hockey. as far as i see no one has been picked because they know someone on the team but just because they got in there first. as Jono said rec hockey isn't massive and alot of people will know other players in rec, ethier from playing with them or against them on a regular basis. no one is going to not talk to someone they don't know, eg at training sessions there loads of people that turn up that no one knows but that doesn't mean we try and push them out. This is for a good charity. whats wrong with turning up into a room with people you don't really know and go and raise as much money as possible. Yeah there is quite a few Sheffield ice Tigers players in the roster but as far as i Know we have all gone in individually and no one has talked to anyone about why don't we get the whole team playing PS by the looks of things the 6th is out of the question for alot of people. Lets see who i know from the nottingham team 2 Tim Toseland (Heja) (well I think I know me LOL) 7 Carl Sutherland (possibly if he played for ashfield) 9 Luke Thomas (Luke Thomas) (NOPE) 11 Mark Atkin (Mark) (POSSIBLY) 13 Kris Thacker (Dodyfan13) (YES) 14 Laura Porter (Pink Panther) (WELL I KNOW WHO SHE IS JUST NEVER TALKED TO HER) 17 Lyndsey Elliott (Nutty) (NOPE) 19 Ollie (Jag7) (NOPE) 23 Philip Littlewood (Northern panther) (NOPE) 26 Neil Thomas (Tomo#26) (YES) 31 DtC - Netminder (YES) 32 Darrell (Darrellpanther) (YES) 44 Rich Rigley (Rich) (YES) 49 John Searson (Zukiwsky Fan) (YES) 58 BJ Lewis (BJ) (YES) 72 Jonathan Bullard (Jono#72) (YES) 84 Brett Dykes (Bretters) (YES) 86 Jonathan Berrecloth (jonnybravo) (NO) 97 Peter Starr (Starr#97) (YES) 88 Shane Moore (NO) ## Keiran Searson (Mazdave66) (NO) ## Dave Searson (Mazdave66) (NO) So 11 people out of 21 I don't know and the ones I do i know because I play hockey with them. Really i don't see why it matters if we know every single one of us on the teams, all we are going to do is raise as much money as possible and try and put on a bit of a show as well for anyone that decides to go

A lot of people have a bit of banter on here but it doesnt mean that they are cliquey or maybe even know them. I only know a dozen or so people on here and thats because I have made an effort to talk to them at different times - Lions games/presentation night, the play off party at Keefe's pub, match nights etc
There are two common areas that are pulling people together here, the first being that they are Panthers fans that take an interest on the Cage Forum - I dont see any other form of media that Rink Rush could have annonunced their plans or asked for peoples interest - and the second being the worthy cause that this event is helping.
I cant skate but would have loved to have tried something like this, but I will still offer my services off ice (and not the joke I posted earlier).

Raising money for charity is about people coming together as one. I dont know anyone at all, just names off here but i will be there.I dont feel it being clique at all.I think its great the amount of people who have put their names forward without a second thought. You will all the the same shirts on so you know whos on your team, so you dont have to know them personally. When you take on a sponsored run or walk for charity do you know everyone whos walking/running with you? No didnt think so. I think the Rink Rush are great for organising such an event and I for one dont care who else is there, but I will be!
