perhaps we need to add the hippy hippy shake to the game music list, now to the game i feel winning 2-0 will in the end be a better start than a loose 5-2 or 6-3 win,
we know we can win with an expansive game and also we now know we can grind out a win and that will do for me dont mind winning ugly if we have to, so long as we win!
rasta turns it on when it matters he was awsome tonight as was pele he put in some brilliant hits and tried to go toe to toe with clouthier at one point the lad has guts and skill, cant ask for more! corey was putting it about a bit as well, we are not going to be pushovers as some people feared, well done guys tomorrow will be a tougher test!

Well I wasn t expecting our first shut out so soon ;D, manchester were 200% better tonight than in sheffield last saturday, very organised tonight
Our special teams won us the game pp and pk.
Another superb game from Pele
Decent fight at the end
Honorable mentions must go to Rasti and Wally

A decent workmanlike win, that. Not spectacular, not edge-of-the-seat stuff like Wednesday... but solid.
Phoenix are a good defensive team... they did well to shut down a fair bit of our offence. They don't look anywhere near as creative on the offence, and that combined with a much more switched-on Panthers defensive corps sealed the win.
If Rasto hadn't (understandably) got MoM for his shut-out, I'd have gone with Marc Levers. Damn, but he's making a great impact... literally - he's throwing check after check out there! Winning some good face-offs too.
I disagreed with a few of Cloutman's calls, but the fact is - the difference between him and Hicks is like night and day. I particularly liked the way he was constantly communicating with the players - far more than Hicks did earlier in the week.
Missed the hip check from Pelletier (damn!) but it's good to hear that we've got another player inclined to throw them. Kudos to Ryan Shmyr for his selfless shot-blocking... best example of that IMHO since Randall Weber.
My only gripe of the evening... the utterly pointless fight. I mean - why?? Was it started to 'gee up' one of the teams and affect the course of the game? - nope, it was almost over. Was it to teach someone a lesson for cheapshotting? - nope. Was it to 'try out' a new enforcer? - nope, they've both met each other before in the EIHL.
Totally pointless. I don't mind a fight if there's a good reason for it... but there wasn't, it was just for the sake of it.
But anyway - two points, a shutout for Rasto to boost his confidence (and he did make some quality stops)... and hopefully no major fatigue or injury problems for the trip to Newcastle tomorrow. I'll take that to the bank! ;D

Shaggy, did you not see the check that one of the Manchester players did to one of our guys the shift before the fight, you know, the one that totally laid him out. Shmyr went after the guy and Cloots went to climb over the bench but then stopped and they were both staring and nodded
Shmyr's way of evening up a bad hit
i like your posts but i cant understand your problem with something that got both sets of fans on there feet cheering and probably meant alot more people left the game with a buzz

Reckon I preferred today's game to Wednesday, despite the lack of goals. Good, solid hockey all round, a proper fight instead of a hugging match, and even the ref was decent ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

A solid game which was made difficult by Manchester's solid defence and good netty, Both our goals were scrappy one was bundled over the line by Wally and the other a deflected blue liner but they all count!
I thought Symr was emense in defence this evening especially on the penalty kill, Levers was excellent again and Rasto came good, i loved it when he saved a shot then waved at the fans haha!
It seemed like we were on a never ending pen kill but we look very calm and assured when a man down...even look likely to score a few!
The fight was a draw, it started well but then fizzled out

It was a good win
It was a great shutout
We played some excellent hockey
We look to have a fine powerplay
We look to have a fine penalty kill
We look to have a team that will score almost at will
Most importantly, we look good.

Don't want to buck the trend here, but I thought Neilson had an excellent game tonight. Pelletier continues to impress.

Excellent win tonight, real gritty team performance. And our 'weak link' netminder ((c) Every other elite league team's fans) got a shut-out, who'd have thunk it ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I thought the defence was excellent tonight, as was Marc Levers. Pelletier continues to impress and Neilson also had a brilliant game. Finally, credit to Manchester, they played a very defensive game and shut us down for long periods. If they would have played an open game of hockey we'd have mullered them! Obviously Davie Graham did his homework on Wednesday night.

Well, here is a first for me........... actually agree with most of the posts on the game.
That'll teach me to talk about goalies having bad games. Rusty was excellent last night. Yep he rode his luck, but he made that luck. Good game from him. Pelletier impressed me again and Wally Wallenberg was much better than Wednesday. Molin was quiet but he is getting there. Watch out for him in a couple of weeks.
As for Phoenix, Fank seems to have settled down and had a safe game. The first came off his shoulder and dropped behind him, could just as easily have missed the net. The second was well set up and tipped to send him the wrong way. No blame on him for either goal. Basiuk and Mangos looked good and in general the D did their job against a fairly attack minded Panthers. Forwards still not getting it together but it will come. Firepower may be a problem but if it weren't for Rusty, they would have got a few tonight. Tallari impressed me most and looks like a good un.
The fight was a draw IMHO, Schmyr getting a few early ones with Cloots evening it up. I think it was right for the two of them to go. Cloots had been slashed and hooked for most of the night and Schmyr is the man to sort out things like the hit near the end. They did nod and agree and Cloutman was aware and let them go at it. Good old fashioned enforcing.
I thought Cloutman had a good game last night, picking up most infractions and yapping to the players all night. Good game from him.
Overall I suppose Panthers just about shaded the game although I would not have begrudged Phoenix a point for their defensive display.

Not a bad start, and an almost team "working" together with an exception of No "61?" Shepherd?
As long he had no front teeth that's Jim Shepherd, in which I wasn't impress with his playing. But it's an early day.
The defences are much better than last season, especially they throw down few body block, and I think the fight wasn't necessary at all! But then it inspire the young un' sitting next to me, which annoy me much!
Anyway, just keep it up and I am sure we'll get some silverware.

Not a great game in my opinion but some excellent individual performances. Let's face it, if we are going for the title then these are the sorts of victories we need to churn out.
Only thing that disappointed me was the DJ, who clearly hasn't bothered to change the playlist from last season.
Still plays 'Nightmare' for the away team's entrance, still plays 'Thunder' to the Panthers coming out, still plays 'Chelsea Dagger' for Panthers' goals and at the end. Also, what happened to the goal horn???
I suppose he would argue that it ain't broke, so don't fix it, but it's a new season and the old stuff is getting boring in my opinion, having heard it week in week out. The emphasis should be on the new. What's the problem in varying it just a bit?

Was surprised nobody had mentioned Corey earlier in the thread. I thought he had a really good game last night. It wasn't the showy stuff but the little bits which kept the puck in the right zone at the crucial times. Corey and Ryan were both major influences in us getting the shut-out.

I thought Rusty had an immense game, right from the word go nothing was going to get past him.
Pele what a find I cannot belive that this guy 'slipped through the net' in North America, superb postional play and not afraid to look after his netminder a true stay at home D man. Neilson was great and has the abilty to be the highest scoring D man in the league, Stancok and Meyers had good games.
The Brits worked ever so hard and did a great job.
The two 'import lines' worked well created a alot of chances skated well. IMO if Rasto hadn't of got MOM Wallenberg would have got it.

the Mancs played a very good game tonight, fair play to them for shutting us out so much
Neilson had a great game along with Pele (he may not be 6,6 and 240lbs but hes sure got heart) it must also be said that Shmyr is making a damn good d-man and having five of them is definately not doing us any harm
well done Rasto, glad you got your first SO, see Dawn i told you it would be fine!! ha ha
also thought P.C played the gritty side of the game very well

Somebody has mentioned that an idiot threw a bottle of some sorts at Clouthier as he left the ice last night. Did not see anything myself as I was watching everything else .
Anybody shed any light on the matter.
The mention came from someone who is not prone to mischief or the like.
