Result from the first Lions game of the season, away to Newcastle. The Lions took only 11 outskaters and 1 goalie up there (some of the players are students who haven't arrived yet) - and won 6-2! ;D ;D Well done the lads..... and first blood to a Nottingham team! ;D Edit: Thanks to the Cage's very own Carolle for providing period scores, as she could make it up there and I couldn't - mucho gracias.....

Good result, Newcastle are a new team so its always hard to know what to expect. Intresting to see most the goals came in the 3rd, I guess Mikes training plan is paying off! Well done to Luke Thomas who scored on his debut!

Was a funny old game... We arrived with 11 players and they had a full 22 man squad and came out chopping and cheap shotting like crazy...
At the end of the 1st it was 1-1 and we were just trying to find our feet... But in the second a few players took some really nasty sticks etc...
Started with joe taking a nasty crosscheck and getting injured but playing on - then took a stick to the mouth which the ref ignored so joe decided to launch his gloves and helmet at the ref as he was too injured to hit anybody... then he left the game...
We were down to 10...
Luke thomas then had his knee butchered by a leg left out by one of the Newcastle lot... He cam e back a few minutes later though...
THe final straw cam when Griff got crosschecked in the mouth off a face off... Mike and 7 of our team went off the ice and refused to play, we managed to get them to talk to the ref and come back out...
The score was 2-1 to newcastle...
There were virtually no more penalties and we put 5 in the last 30 mins!!
Never seen anything like it in my life!!

You forgot to mention the "Fog on the Tyne" Oscar.
Twice during the game, both teams had to take to the ice and skate round to clear the heavy mist that kept building up during the game.

Cheers Rich. It was a well needed goal to boost my confidence as i haven't played at this level in nearly 2 years.
As for the rest of the game, we were on the end of a fair few cheap shots. Joe's arm looked ready to fall off, and Griff's mouth will still be hurting now. As for my knee, think the lad left his leg out more in accident rather than meaning it, due to the speed we were heading at each other. Turned out just to be a dead leg. But we dug in deep, managed to get above the cheap shots and got the result we needed. I think a mention should go to our netminder for the weekend, who faced 40+ shots and made some really important saves.
As for the fog that covered most of the ice pad, for an elite league arena its disgusting, let alone dangerous at times. Somehow i cant see the likes of the Panthers agreeing to clear the bench and skate round the ice for 5 mins halfway through each period to clear the mist.
cant wait until Sunday now guys!

I can confirm that. They were announced on the night as the Newcastle ENL Vipers.

For those who can't/won't go to Sheffield on Sunday for the second half of the double-header...... there's still some Nottingham hockey to watch.
The ENIHL North Nottingham Lions have their first home game of the season this Sunday - hosting Flintshire Freeze. Face-off is scheduled for 7:15pm in the Olympic Rink. Tickets are same as last season - adults £5, students with NUS card £4, U14s £3.
The lads won their first (away) game 6-2 with about half as many players as the opposition, so the potential is there for a good win, although Flintshire are never easy opponents.
Come along to the game, enjoy some hockey..... and join in the game of See Who Can Get The Fastest Text Update On The Panthers Score! ;D

Hey guys, Just thought those of you who coach or play at all levels would be interested in the following document. it is all the in-house rule chages for the EIHA. I will warn you, some of these had me laughing for hours when i read them! www.eiha.co.uk/EIHA_Rule_Interpretation_Bulletin_2005-2006.pdf Ones to take note of if you are a player who wears shorts that are ripped on the inner leg, this is no longer allowed and will lead to you been kicked out of the game after a warning. Also, those of you with zips on the inside leg (i been one of them!!!), this will become illegal as of the end of August 2006. The same as ripped shorts will then apply.

So all our shirts, socks, shorts,Helmet must all be the same colour?? And if you tape a C on your shirt it doesnt count, you have to have it stitched on. I think the EIHA need some work to do! Still not sure what the score is with these visors, surely all main visors are CE approved?

You would think so, but there are only a handful of certified visors, and most of these are in very short supply in the uk. Itech are the worse, as the main line (HS22 series, including the pro wave) arent certified, and its this make that a lot of players wear.
I have been speaking to the Telford Tigers kit manager, and he is going to send me a list of all certified visors as and when he gets it.

Sweet, can you send the list on to me. Youd think we would have been told about this before the season actually started! No doubt the officials will get first refusal on the few that are in circulation!

I think alot of supporters are going to be confussed about these rule changes, especially when the ref starts having talks with various players and possibly handing out penalties, At least if they read this thread, they will now get an idea what is going on and why.

I don't get these rule changes at all! So if someone has ripped shorts, they have to get new ones before the season starts?! And as if the sport isn't expensive enough! People who wear shorts like this knows the risks involved, sorry but this rule is petty in my opinion and just plain sucks

Or if your helmet or shorts dont match the colour of everyone elses you have to buy new ones,or if your visor isnt approved you have to scour the country for one that is!

This mist thing is not unique to Newcastle; we had it last weekend during the Dynamos-Phantoms challenge match, and I think it reappeared during this weekend's cup game against the Islanders. Until now I thought it was a Southern thing, but it's probably just the Gillingham Ice Bowl. Well done Lions on a winning start to the season. Hope you guys can keep it up
