Ellis taking over as Lions coach then as we know he has a nack of winning 2 trophies in one season. I believe he has a job lined up already, and no, it's not as Lions coach! I was stood next to him for the majority of the game, and he had some complimentary things to say about players on both sides, I think he enjoyed the game, but I know he enjoyed his beer!! It's been a long, hard season and one that I'm glad is over. We can now take some time off, and think about what is going to happen next season. There are some changes that will be made. Oh and Premak - thanks for the bit of birthday cake! Goalie Rich Griffiths had a bit too and enjoyed it!

A brilliant performance by the Lions. We dominated from start to finish - Joe Wightman opening the scoring after just 58 seconds, then Joe Graham scoring the last with just 4 seconds to go!
Everyone played well, and I was glad to see that Ben Wood made it onto the ice and got a medal.
Anyway, at the end of a long season, the Lions will be holding an End of Season party at The Castle on Friday 30th May, 7.30pm. There will be some food, and both Championship Trophies will be in attendance with photo opportunities available.

As glad as I was to see some of Nottingham's best loved hockey stars in attendance at our game, I just hope they paid for a ticket. I've spotted Mike Ellis at some of our games before, and as he tried to show with his approach to the Panthers, he believes in the potential of the juniors in the Nottingham system. While I was amazed by how well the Lions played, I was more disappointed by the way the Islanders didn't show up. They brought a great crowd, who along with the home fans formed our largest paying crowd in the Olympic rink this season. Thank you to each and every one of you. Thank you also to our off-ice officials for this game, and to all those who have given their time to do a very important job for the team this season. What we saw in the first leg was that the Islanders, largely unable to play a skill game to the level of our top two lines, tried to play a more physical game to intimidate the Lions. In the second leg, this didn't really work, so they were out of ideas. A fantastic performance to end - finally - a wonderful season. As our Press Officer has said, we'll be having a party soon, and I hope that the chance to see the league trophy brings plenty of you along - after all, it's not every day you get the chance to see one (unless you're Rich and Katie, who are currently looking after it )

I think you mean them! We have both trophies to look after until they get handed over to the Junior club who should be putting them in the cabinet.....!

Is there a game tonight?? Not a Lions game... the LEAGUE-WINNING game (I like saying that! ;D) was last Sunday, and that was the last one of the season. (But what a way to finish the season, eh? ;D ;D) There is a little bit of a gathering in the Castle this coming Friday evening, where we can have silly photos of ourselves taken with not one but TWO trophies (or the Lions player of your choice, assuming that's your kind of thing... and you can drag one of 'em away from his beer long enough! )

I read on the ice schedule there was that's all... I didn't think there was but think they must have put last week's game on it instead. Haha well if I do make it down I'll bagsy Lee for the photo!

The Lions originally booked the ice for both the 18th & the 25th as it depended on when Peterborough were free. I guess the NIC haven't freed up the icetime...

Oh I see! One of the Junior Viper players had said their training was cancelled due to the Lions game last night - think they must have had some wrong information from someone.

Wow, that really hammers home just how tough this season will be. Still, on the plus side, what better way to start the season than by antagonising Kingston fans with my brother. That is, if they come into the rink rather than sit in the bar. Mr Fisher, your flags might be needed!

Can we have a new thread for the Lions this season? People will be put off reading 88 pages.
Should be a good season! Iv got friends on several ENL clubs and they all think they are going to win it!

MP - was going to have a word with you on that score anyway.... a PM will follow shortly. And yes - this looks like it will be a tough season. With the ENIHL North being divided into 1st & 2nd divisions, the 'easy' games have gone... and 4 games against each opponent instead of just 2 might help generate a few more grudge matches. Should be interesting!

Why can't they just read the last page, like they would on any other thread? I think the reason that so many teams are confident this season is because the revamp of ENIHL has eliminated the "easy wins", as Shaggy pointed out. I think it's also partly because they would have seen how the Lions came from missing the playoffs in 2006-07 and then won the league and the national championship with virtually the same team. Additionally, I think it's going to make the regular season more like the playoffs, where home wins are paramount and I'd venture that the team who wins the league will be the one with the best away form. Makes for an exciting season

Excellent news. Lyle was arguably the find of the season in ENIHL. He doesn't look like the most imposing presence on the ice but he makes up for it in strength. Coupled with his goalscoring touch he poses many problems for goalies at the front of the net, and he's not afraid to uncork a big hit in the corner either.

Posted 28/8/2008: Lyle Idoine (F) From Botany Swarm (NZIHL) to Nottingham Lions Status: Confirmed It's not confirmed yet! Lyle has yet to train with the Lions, and it's not 100% certain that he'll get a spot on the team. There have been more players registered with the Lions this year than ever, and we're not sure yet who will be playing in the new-look Lions team. Although we'll welcome back Lyle with open arms if he wants to come back, it's not certain until we get confirmation of his new ITC!
