We’ll have to wait and see who we sign but last season people liked the fast attacking hockey but wanted more size and grit added but isn’t that generally the type of team Danny Stewart signs That all depends on who's doing the signing. Most noise suggests Pacha does most of that work. Well, attempts to at least. See how good a job he's done as players are announced here and wherever last seasons roster end up. Stewart having the EIHL knowledge he does you'd expect him to have some say. Regards his previous teams hes been on much smaller ice pads. Id like to see more size and grit. Not sure DS guarentees it.

We change the coach again, and a lot of people are underwhelmed with the choice. I would think that most of you wanted someone like Aaron Fox and the team that goes with it Unfortunatley that won't happen, so we have to make do with what we have until we start winning regularly and attracting the right calibre of players Let him build the team over the coming months and allow him to play his own style of hockey
Who else is out there (either inside or outside the EIHL) that would come to Nottingham Adam Keefe is settled at Belfast Pete Russell has only done one season at Cardiff Paul Dixon is part of the furniture at Guildford Is there anyone else out there?

Well Danny Stewart is a better option than Saddam Hussain (if you’re not on Twitter/X then I can only apologise for the lack of context with that 😂)
In all seriousness, I’m not jumping for joy, but I’m also not downbeat with Stewart. I think at this moment in time, he is what we need and I would liken him to when Finnerty got the reigns at Sheffield. That’s the sort of appointment I feel it is and I am looking forward to the team he creates. I’m also pleased he has a good knowledge of the players/coaches/clubs/rinks he has to play in as that is always the downside to an ‘outside’ appointment.

Seen a hell of a lot of negativity on social media regarding this appointment. Both around it being a ‘lazy’ appointment, and that Kevin Moore should’ve been coach.
I’d say re KM that he was fantastic last season in serious adversity, showed great leadership to help guide the group through tragedy. However, sometimes assistant coaches are excellent at that role but doesn’t always translate to being the main coach. As AC they can be the go between for the locker room and leadership, he can play good cop when he needs to etc etc. There’s nothing saying he’d have the recruitment contacts, knowledge of systems etc etc to succeed in the EIHL. Also, if we appointed him as coach had he been an AC somewhere else last year, everyone would be in uproar at a lack of experience and would label it ‘cheap’ etc! Don’t get me wrong I’d love him back alongside DS - think it would be a good move.
In terms of the other point, people calling it a lazy appointment cos he’s from the league I get, on those facts alone. However again we talk about knowledge of the league being a key criteria to success for a head coach. If we’d have got a coach no one had heard of from another league there’d be uproar that they need ‘bedding in’ time and that we’ll have a year while they feel everything out. In that instance the Panthers can’t win 😂.
We need stability and this seems to me to be a longer term, vision based appointment which hopefully starts a wave of retention of best Brits and imports in the coming years. I’m quite excited; never seen a DS team quit, which I loved of the team last year; and normally niggly and difficult to play against. Hes mentioned a few times about a bigger budget to play with etc, excited to see the roster he puts together. Hope we keep Hazeldine, Neilson, Kelsall and Betteridge, and some key imports like Roy, Despres and Henbrant. Intrigued by whats no doubt already going on behind the scenes.

Im not sure how I feel about the appointment, in someways in great to have someone with DS experience and knowledge behind the EIHL. He’s had a few good season and a few bad ones. I’m hoping he’ll finally get the physical presence put into the team (again, it’ll depends who’s in charge of the summer signings) I’m fully getting splinters sitting on the fence,

I like DS and it could be an inspired signing. Tons of passion and spits fire for his team and as far as EIHL coaching goes I think it's a big upgrade. Unless you are going to spend a lot of money and patience coach 'teams' like Aaron Fox and Adam Keefe are just a fantasy.
The glory days at Coventry ended with Paul Thompson and with a small budget and tiny crowds (the city of Coventry have certainly fallen out of love with Ice Hockey) DS has pretty much had his back against the wall for years there. He knows the league inside out and the Panthers are going to have a season pretty much of last chances. If his team decides to take a night off DS lights a bonfire under them before the final buzzer. He's a fighter and it's his big chance. Hopefully it won't go horribly wrong and in this upcoming (yet another) building year I hope it's a bit more positive.
I actually tipped DS for coach last summer but lets see what he can do. When the first puck is dropped the BS stops.

That's quite the unexpected appointment from you! Seems to be a fair big move up for DS after not really doing anything with the Blaze? They were tracking for 3rd in the cancelled 19/20 season, but otherwise has never finished higher than 5th, no play-off finals appearances, and just one CC semi-final.
While Corey to the Clan might not be seen to some as the most inspiring appointment of all time, IMO it was still quite the pick-up for us right off the back of finishing bottom. Feel the Panthers should be aiming a bit higher, bags of experience in the league, but beyond that I'm not seeing much else suggesting DS is the best one for the job?

I'm a little wait and see on this appointment after some of our recent turnover in coaches but quietly optimistic as...
1 - I can think of three GB dual nationals who are now representing GB having been first brought to the EIHL by Stewart at Blaze:
Ben Lake, Johnny Curran and Nathanael Halbert.
So that proves he's got an eye for talent, and talent suited to the UK game long term.
2 - He has an eye for talent not spotted by the bigger clubs in and of itself (even if it is then stolen by teams with bigger budget in some cases). Players he first brought to the league include:
Marc-Olivier Vallerand, Janne Laakkonen, Kim Tallberg, Tristan Keck
3 - He seems to have a knack for getting the most out of his players, is not afraid to lean on their talent, resulting in career numbers other teams struggle to replicate later:
Luke Ferrara, Marc-Oliver Vallerand, Ben Lake, Johnny Curran, Nathaniel Halbert. At 31 Ian McNulty just had a career best season under Stewart.
And, something we need...
4 - His defences have got progressively stingier as he's been in the league. In each of the last three seasons, regardless of whether they finished above or below us, his teams shipped less goals than we did, whilst producing similar or better scoring numbers.
And, I think, we can all agree and improved defensive responsibility would be no bad thing moving forwards.
So, I think these attributes, combined with an increased budget from moving to Panthers, are definitely positives that could be built on.
Having poached McNulty once do you think he'll poach him again and bring him to Panthers?

HHmmm With the appointment of the very liked Kevin Moore to Coventry. This throws more connotations into it all.

HHmmm With the appointment of the very liked Kevin Moore to Coventry. This throws more connotations into it all. After just one year as an assistant coach would have been very risky giving him the coaching job at Nottingham. At some point even Nottingham fans will run out of patience and that would heap a stupid amount of pressure on someone’s first coaching job.

Oh I'm not taking any sides, choosing the coach myself or such as I'm no one with ESP. But this has added extra spice for social media, fan chat et all. Makes the season a tad more interesting.
