Seems a bit of snobbery about this.
If a rival were rumoured to be after him, the same people would likely be saying “why didn’t we pick up this guy? He would have been cheap and his stats are great. Our scouting is rubbish”

Gabe Levesque came from France 2 to Dundee and scored 62 points. Kevin Massy went from France2 to Ligue Magnus to one of the best D in the EIHL. Sorry to confuse the issue with facts but... It's not unheard of to find a gem in France2. Unusual, yes. But not unheard of. You be quiet. That doesn’t fit the narrative! Nottingham could sign Auston Matthews & certain folks would still whine & bitch.

If certain folks on here were allowed to assemble their own squad, picked from every player on the planet, they would still complain, probably that one wasn't tall enough.

One player that arrived with not a great cv was a certain S Herr, and how did that work out? I would argue his pro career being a small stint then 3 full seasons in the AHL is better than a “not great CV”. But I do appreciate the point you’re making just probably not the best example

Indeed. And Boivin did OK... I love how people can rubbish players without ever having seen them play. For the nth time, stats and/or the level of play don't tell it all. Take Collin. A good scorer on a team that will be in the Ligue Magnus this year. No-one's noticed his PIMs it seems, he could be lined up to do a similar job to Riley Brant in Cardiff, or Matt Alvaro in Guildford? "The ornery pest", a role Panthers have lacked in recent years, and plenty on here say we "need". Also, significantly, a positive outlier in the team's +/-, as well as second top goal scorer. There are plenty of positive signs, should he end up here. All you need is an open mind. I'd be amazed if he's a top line signing, of course. But a piece of a jigsaw? A player who plays limited minutes, but has a specific role within the wider team? Not amazed at all. Plenty of players sign straight from college and are plenty good enough. Recent experience shows that. Collin has a season and a bit of professional experience to draw on. Jeez, you don't sign a team of opening batsmen... And frankly, as yet, it's only a rumour... But on the flip side people will also call a player a great or stud signing just because he played a few games in a top league. On the whole though there’s a reason the top EIHL teams sign good CV players but the poorer CV players generally end up in Fife,Dundee,Coventry or Manchester. There will be some, however you don’t see many poor CV players end up in Sheffield,Belfast or Cardiff and that’s why those teams finish in the top placings. That's the bit that gets me. You are allowed to have an opinion on a player based on stats and CV as long as it's a positive one. Looks a great signing is based on exactly the same set of info that looks a poor signing is based on. A player with the record of this guy would be highly unlikely to get anyway near Sheffield, Belfast or Cardiff line ups. If he does sign, I hope he storms it, but it wont be a signing to get me excited.

Signed from the hockey hotbed of the Dutch league, after playing for a Belgian team, his first year pro after a middling college career? I can recall no other player ever signing for an EIHL team from a team in Belgium. He did Ok in the end?

If signed, I'll be pleasantly surprised if he gets 10 goals, but if he plays a role, and does it well, then that could be a great signing. To dismiss him as "rubbish" at this stage is quite a step.

One player that arrived with not a great cv was a certain S Herr, and how did that work out? Sam Herr came straight from about four years in the AHL so that isn’t “a not great CV”. That’s a damn site better than some poor NCAA numbers and a year in France 2 that’s for sure.

I think there can be some unrealistic expectations at times on here but I think it’s a tad unfair to say fans shouldn’t be wary of a potential signing when they would be coming from a league quite a few levels below what we’re used to seeing us sign players from

Look at the other imports that played on that Nantes team with Collins in France 2 and they all look a similar level of rather poor quality CV wise. Tells you what the general standard of that league is like i guess though.

Given Panthers are hinting at something on x/twitter- probably a signing announcement I'll leave this here. Probably complete coincidence. Confirmed at Flames tonight

I thought we'd have had a signing by now this week with the renewal date looming.

I thought we'd have had a signing by now this week with the renewal date looming. Well based on previous years I’d expect players to start arriving from the 12th August which is 11 weeks away so if we plan to start with 22 and have them all announced by that point then we should be expecting at least one a week

The one thing that no player since has been able to match was Herr's sheer determination to win and drag the team with him. That performance against the Blaze was one for the ages.
