Doing his PHD at Loughborough but he turned down some EIHL teams to join Steeldogs so I’m guessing the schedule was likely a huge factor

That's ^ an underappreciated aspect of TS owning the Steeldogs now.
The conversation has largely been about how its a pathway for british talent, but with the steelers doing so well financially (seemingly) these days, they can now sign imports have them play big minutes in the NIHL, give them a more relaxed schedule, probably pay them similarly to an EIHL wage and have them ready to go whenever they need them without scrambling around with mid-season recruitment woes.
This is actually a similar set-up to that the Maple Leafs have with the Marlies in the NHL/AHL - over the last ten years or so they've signed players for the Marlies who technically could of got NHL contracts elsewhere, with the proviso that they're well looked after by the big club and will get opportunities when there are injuries.

I'm sure I read somewhere that it's a lengthy and costly process to get an "import" player playing in the NIHL to play for the "parent" EIHL club? It's not easy, as you can't be signed to 2 teams at once? Maybe this is the new "injury reserve, let's sign 27 imports when the maximum is 20" scam?
To be fair, there's no hint of a mention of the Steelers in the article.

Depends on the PhD he is doing. A lot in the STEM subjects require you to be in the university more or less full time. Especially scientific research PhD'S. They are fully funded and require total commitment. This means that he won't be available for daily on ice training. To play for the Steeldogs would not require him to attend training daily and still be a good player just by doing his own fitness work. At 29 and playing at the EIHL level he may have decided he needs to concentrate on his career after hockey. By the time he finishes his PhD he will 33 and likely will earn a better salary away from hockey. He might be signed as injury cover for the Steelers but probably would have to drop in for games and not train much with them.

All look very decent indeed.
By my reckoning, Steelers have 2 import goalies, 6 import D and 8 import forwards signed.

I wonder who their 5th Brit will be if Warburton is the game day back up? What is Sam Jones doing this season?

Seems like Guildford have released him ahead of the new season. No idea why.

Davey Phillips managed 4 of the current lot (5 if Hull still counted).
This is the sort of question we expect you to answer tbh 😉
