Not at the game but that is a very good result. Whilst Guildford may not be as good as last season they have picked up of late. This season they've managed to beat Sheffield, Cardiff and Belfast so they are no mugs. They may sit 9th but teams are so tight at the minute they can move 4 or 5 places over a weekend. Great to get back to a win after a few tough results. Hopefully follow it up with a few ahwad of the Christmas games.

Despres is absolutely top drawer. Oozes quality. He certainly is. I really think that back end is the best we've had in a long time. Could really do with 1 on the forward lines to take this team to the next level.

Pleased the team managed to get back to winning ways, Rok was great but I thought that was a very open game and Guildford missed some big chances. I also felt they were the better team over the game.
We battled hard as we always do though and some of our other players stepped up today to get the win. Lovely goal from Joe, I’m sure that felt good, nice for Welsh and Kelsall to get their 1st goals of the season too. Welsh is like a pinball out there, gets stuck in, buzzes about and gives his all, it was about time he got a goal.
Paredes altered the lines as well, Ollie featured at centre and looked promising I thought. See how his overall game develops there as the season progresses

4th line excellent, Welsh especially. Very open game. Great goalie performance but too many chances given. Flames first PP was incredible in that I’m not sure we touched the puck in 2 minutes. How Flames didn’t score I’ll never know. First time seeing Despres and Farley. As a learned chum of mine said, the EIHL will never be too fast for Despres. Farley showed flashes. Hazeldine looks the goods. Good 2 points, 8/10.

Thought the refs were poor again. Especially not calling a clear boarding from a Guildford player and several other non calls on Guildford. Then when they finally did call one on Guildford it was a very harsh holdimg call. Summed up how poor they were to me.

Despres is absolutely top drawer. Oozes quality. And so he should with his CV. Where has this quality of player been in Nottingham for the last ten years ? If they can get that calibre now with the ridiculously low wage cap it makes you wonder just what the hell was going on in years gone by !

If I may paraphrase… Panthers sign players who don’t play to their cv. “They’re rubbish. The clubs rubbish.” Panthers sign a player who does play like his cv. “So he should. The club are still rubbish” We get it. You were treated badly by the club decades ago ago and you’ve had a whole chip shop next to your ear since. One wonders why you waste your retirement on here when you hardly ever have anything vaguely non-negative to say. Still, I defend your right to say it. 🤣

I saw this at the time but thought it was an accidental check mainly by the lack of any reaction at all by the Panthers. Weird.

Locke now banned for it I read . One game .

Personally, I’d rather focus on the present day, as opposed to mud slinging from a bygone age.

You know perfectly well that your whinging about the Panthers extends much further than four seasons. Acting like a perpetually scorned lover is getting very, very boring. Knock it off.

Good result, and well taken goals. Were we the better team? not all game on, and kept in it by the Rok. Once again a talking point was the standard of officiating dangerous hits and injuries on the play not 'seen' by those in charge. No wonder players and coaches get frustrated at things when players are getting injured and nothing is called. Don't know how much sway the coaches have but if they collectively went to the league (owners) and said that they need better trained officals, because some of the current lot are simply not good enough, also clubs should be able to complain about the performance of the officials if they have evidence of how poor they've been; and as all games are recorded this wold not be an issue. How many times do you see a crosscheck or slash where the ref is looking at it and dont call?

Wouldn't they just be complaining about their own lack of investment?

Wouldn't they just be complaining about their own lack of investment? That's not the worst argument ever... I'm not one to generally criticise refs, but when there are getting to be a few suspensions after review on plays where no call was made at all on the ice (from 4 pairs of eyes), you do start to think that maybe something needs to change?

Wouldn't they just be complaining about their own lack of investment? Trouble is half these current refs seem to have come from more or less nowhere, presumably in the amateur leagues and suddenly been catapulted straight into the pro league. Rather like taking guys from the Notts Sunday Football League reffing the Red Lion v The Castle Inn and then plonking them straight in the Championship. 🙄

I don't disagree that the standard needs to improve, but we've been saying that since I first started going.
Problem is it'll cost money, either in training expenses for the current lot - who I assume are amateur and do it for the love of it and beer money - or in hiring professionals from abroad, and I doubt the league have it to spend either way. Peanuts and monkeys spring to mind.

Every time the league crow about the total weekly attendance figure I just smile to myself and think…yeah how about spending some of that money on refs. I’ll bet that there are a couple of clubs who would spend the money but all the others will play the poverty card so the clubs who would spend think stuff you then, why should we spend if you won’t !

I think there's a difference between a multi-million pound business (which the EIHL is, let's face it, even if we're only guessing at what the revenues and costs are) and there being multi-millions "swilling around". That's a stretch. Very few businesses can create streams of sustainable pure profit out of nowhere. Maybe when times are good, like Steelers are now*, but, as we know, all you need is a poor season, and... *Even then, as we also know, they are doing some big discounts for a lot of games, and price behaviour is seemingly elastic in Yorkshire for things like that.

There were over 1 million fans watched EIHL games last season Bob and the way it’s shaping up it’s highly likely a similar amount this year too. That’s a heck of a lot of fans and an awful lot of ticket money spent only to watch amateur poorly trained refs who get paid peanuts.

A couple of full time professional refs would be a start. Stick it on the list.
