Both Clan and Panthers are massively underperforming, coincidence or is there something in the way these clubs are being run?

Both Clan and Panthers are massively underperforming, coincidence or is there something in the way these clubs are being run? our team has been built wrong and it’s that simple. 4 lines (well 3 tonight) that play exactly the same (and don’t play their system well either).

You can’t pin our start to the season on Neil Black I’m afraid.
We’ve got numerous EIHL experienced players who will have cost a fair amount of money, pretty much everyone was in agreement of that before we’d played a game

I've always believed Neil Black is a tight wad when it comes to spending. Why do Steelers always out perform us season after season? 🤔

One team was run by an outdated egomaniac who loved the sound of his own voice and filling the place with happy clappers and aged yes men. The other team just wanted to win.

I would have to strongly agree with that. It's become clear just how much Moran was holding the club back since the change over.

It was clear for many, many years what by far the biggest millstone was around Panthers necks. I’d bet Pacha cannot believe just what a mess and shocking culture he has found in Nottingham.

I remember hearing this story a few years ago.
A player who had represented both clubs was enjoying some post-match refreshment in a then popular City Centre nightspot, a fan asked that very same question that is being posed here.
"Why do Sheffield always outperform the Panthers even when it looks as if both sides are equal on paper?"
He gestured around the crowded bar, where his team-mates were in various states of disrepair.
"Just look around you," was his answer.

It's all gone very quiet on Black since Omar came in. A hell of a lot of positive things have happened at the club this season. Like it or not he has made/started that.
I said before the summer that he may be many things but he isn't stupid. He is a business man who had a sinking ship and he knew investment and change was needed. We have seen that, certainly off the ice. I know nothing of course but Chris Ellis and his team must be costing a hell of a lot more than Dan Kerry for starters.
I'm not convinced the playing budget is hugely increased and perhaps doesn't compete with Belfast and Cardiff still. It does however appear to be up on last year somewhat. The test will come in the coming weeks and months when changes to the squad need to be made. Last year there was talk he wouldn't put in any more for roster additions or changes. This year the fans are turning very very quickly. If it carries on this way Blacks name will start coming up more and more i'm sure. As of now though i'm not to sure much blame can lay at his door.

I've always believed Neil Black is a tight wad when it comes to spending. Why do Steelers always out perform us season after season? 🤔 That all comes down to culture and player treatment. Housing, benefits and all the small things that can quickly turn players from motivated to disgruntled and disinterested. It's not always a coach that they stop playing for. There are many, many players who have spoken quietly to individuals on how poor they have been treated over the years. That being the main reason we struggle to retain any too end Brits. Sheffield have built around the likes of Philips and Dowd. We've lost the likes of Farmer, Ollie and Perlini to name just a few. Then there is the other side. It probably comes from losing that faith in the orgsnisation. Beer(and perhaps more)! Sometimes lots of free beer too.

So you're saying playing in a city centre is very much the problem with too much distraction?

It's a poor excuse to cover up the teams lack of success Depends how far a club lets it go though. There’s enjoying yourself and then there’s getting trollied every night. I think the main problem in Nottingham stemmed from Moran and his terrible attitude to players, sponsors and fans.

How many players signed today will be well aware of who Gary Moran was?

Is GG one of the few head coaches in thecleague not to have an assistant? Cardiff, Sheffield and Belfast(multiple) do. Even Danny Stewart has one. If you wanted anything to bring Black back in to the mix perhaps this is it. Was it a case of that's your budget, if you want to spend it on players, or even a social media team(not sure on and off ice budgets will cross over but you never know) feel free, but you'll have to go without something else. Like an assistant. It's been a few years now since we had a full time one. They must be valuable as almost every pro sports team has one. Could this be hindering GG and the team?

Good point there.. he's mentioned on previous podcasts that he'd like one.. surely he's worked with plenty of assistants on past teams?

GG is also one of the very few (by his own admission) coaches who never actually played hockey himself. Maybe some players find that hard to work with ?

I’ve seen a few pictures from training over the last few weeks and I think he has had some players from the Lions assisting in sessions but certainly no true coach that works alongside him

I’ve seen a few pictures from training over the last few weeks and I think he has had some players from the Lions assisting in sessions but certainly no true coach that works alongside him Early in one of the off season podcasts GG said he didn't envisage bringing a North American assistant coach over to help him, instead more likely see if any 'local' coaches would like a shot at being an assistant. Then in a later podcast he said it looked like he'd be tge only coach in the league without an assistant. Perhaps GG was told that he could have an assistant but that it would come out of the playing budget and he decided against it. Just a supposition and probably a wrong one. I guess only GG and the club truly know.

What matters is that he coached at a good level with plenty of experience. It would just be a poor excuse for the players
