I absolutely know you don't play it on paper, but I'm (probably very unfairly) a bit underwhelmed with Blaze's team this season. You watch them thrash the pants off us...

Think after a couple of narrow losses, it would be good to get a couple of wins on the board to close out pre season. Hopefully the PP and PK can click, and we can take some of the positivity already garnered, with some wins, into the regular season.

Presume this is Coventry's first game of preseason? Not seen any other results from them.

Early days but I can see a final scoreline of :- Blaze 4 : Panthers 2. We look a squad on the smallish side and trying to find (a) an on-ice leader, (b) a quality offensive defence man and (c) a player who we can look to who can turn a game with his own impact. Think we will have our grapes squeezed tonight by a determined Coventry side in their tight little icepad.

I know we all see things differently but don’t you think it’s a bit early for anyone to have took the mantle as our on-ice leader? Especially with the high turnover that we’ve had in the club. I also think we’ve got two game changers in Hammond and Welychka. I know the game isn’t just played 5 on 5 and special teams are a massive part of the sport but we outscored Sheffield 7-2 over the weekend when 5 on 5. Graham will have been heavily focused on special teams in practice yesterday, I’m assuming he’s reduced his pp units from 3 to 2 and hopefully we’ll see some offensive flair from Summers and Brassard. I’m going for a Panthers 5-2 victory.

Interesting point re even strength play, Steelers did not concede 4 goals in a period in any EIHL game last season, let alone 4 even strength goals.

Blaze will be missing 2 imports Marley Quince who only arrived today and former Panther Brady Norrish who arrives tomorrow.

So a dedicated PP line up, then maybe build others later

Excellent. Panthers did not score a 5 on 3 PPG last league season at all, the only EIHL side not to do so.

Not sure how many opportunities we had (I'm sure you can illuminate us), but that seems like it should be a shockingly bad return. Assuming my stats are right, 8 chances, totalling 525 seconds. That's nearly 9 minutes. Every other team scored at least 1 (Fife and, perhaps surprisingly, Cardiff exactly 1), Blaze, Steelers and Giants 5 each, but Dundee headed the pack with a very impressive 8 5 on 3 goals. Panthers had 28 PPG (in total) last season. The next lowest team was 35. Cardiff led the pack with 49 (!) in total, 46 of which were 5 on 4. Panthers had the lowest number of PP chances last season with 154, whilst conceding 197. Glasgow had 156 chances for, but 221 against.

Dubeau was excellent up until the point he was chucked out with Gagnon but our forwards are way way too small

Dubeau was excellent up until the point he was chucked out with Gagnon but our forwards are way way too small Is this going to be a problem with Dubeau ? I'm all for goalies sticking up for themselves, but he went after a Sheffield player on Saturday, and now this. We don't want a Hirsch or Brian Stewart in goal

We don't want a Hirsch or Brian Stewart in goal Yes it may well be as he’ll get targeted by other coaches if he doesn’t reign it in and stop reacting every time. Easy pen to draw for the opposition.

Stewart was also one of the better netminders in the league in his time. I'll take the odd penalty minute so long as he's the goods where he needs to be too. As Pidge says, a few characters will make the team even more watchable.
Anyway, expected to win yesterday, given we were up and running and they weren't, but a good scoreline all the same.
