Latest injury report from the Panthers www.panthers.co.uk/home/211031-team-news"Meanwhile here is the latest news out of the Panthers' Medical Room after the weekend's games courtesy of Lead Sports Therapist Laura-Jo Bowler: Kevin Domingue (lower body) received stitches to a 15cm laceration, when the team returned to Nottingham early on Sunday morning, following the win over the Devils in Cardiff on Saturday night. He is due to see a specialist on Monday when more on his status will be revealed. Robbie Baillargeon (precaution) was a last minute scratch from the line-up in Cardiff on Saturday night. He will be re-evaluated when the team return to training on Tuesday morning. Massimo Carozza (upper body) will get the results of his scan early this week to determine the extent of his injury. He remains on the IR. Stephen Lee (lower body) has already started his rehab and is making good progress in his recovery. He is listed as week-to-week and remains on the IR. Morgan Clarke-Pizzo (upper body) has made excellent progress in his recovery, he has been upgraded to day-to-day and could be removed from the IR this week if there are no setbacks."

Sounds like Morgan Clarke-Pizzo will be back. I think he actually played for Peterborough this weekend so it'll be good to have another body.
Lee sounds like he's not miles away, hopefully back in time for when we hit the league games in earnest.
15cm is a hell of a war wound for Dingo. As said before, hopefully it's not too deep and done big damage.

I believe the IR is being used to try and mimick what happens in the NHL. I could be wrong but I believe an NHL player can be on IR but be loaned to AHL for conditioning for a minimum period until their IR time expires. If this is the case with MPC on a 2 way him going to Peterborough could be deemed to follow that logic. My issue with the IR time frame within the EIHL is when the roster sizes are already cut and minimal changes allowed it just puts more strain on teams who are already threadbare.

It's another way of bringing an element of 'control' to teams & to make them more professional. Sits alongside the wage cap as 'experimental' for this season.

I think it's more that we havn't used any player to cover the injuries anyway. Why put somebody on a 21 day list when they could be back sooner. It's not like we have another pool of players to just pull from. I do see the logic in theory. As you say though, with the roster sizes it's just plain daft.

Domingue has been added to the IR list backdated to 31st of October as it'll be at least 21 days before he's fit to return. www.panthers.co.uk/home/211103-irMorgan Clarke-Pizzo has been removed from IR and is fit to return

Gui in his interview on the website today acknowledges that the time is still looking for the "right player" to bring in to the team but says in the current market even finding short term cover is hard

There are North American players being released daily from European teams www.eliteprospects.com/player/247933/max-gerlachBeing the most recent. If Cardiff only sign Valdix then the budget can't be high, so even if we were actively looking for a cover player, is that the level we could expect to get.

Why not just give domingues minutes to someone like Jack Hopkins.. instead of faffing around icing 2.5 lines and risking more injuries.. using the IR system in this league isn't fit for purpose.

TBF I think Jack will see some significant ice time next month. Against the Devils he seemed to get more than a customary single shift per period and he looked fine out there. Did get absolutely flattened my Register at one point, but it's an important lesson for him to learn. Almost got an assist in the 3rd period too. While it's rubbish for Panthers the current injury situation, it could be a blessing for Hopkins. I honestly didn't think we'd see much of him when he was announced, but he's on the roster at pretty much every opportunity with growing ice time and looking more comfortable every shift.

Just get rid of him again and it counts against nothing. Plus you can backdate IR, as we've done already, so why put anyone on it until you have a replacement? It's not like they have to go on and then you start looking? There must be a reason for them doing it, whether it be to do with the mysterious wage cap, insurance or something else, but from the outside it just looks odd at the moment.

Gui in interview today on the website today specifically talks about the extra ice time Hopkins is getting and will get as a result and how it's an opportunity to see more of him and see more from him. Does that address your concerns?

Hence my suspicion that the team's injury insurance might kick in to cover there wages whilst on IR. That way the player gets paid. The team isn't technically spending on the player or paying towards the wage cap. The wages saved if this were true (my speculation based on other sports) could then be spent on the 14th import or later in the season by bringing in a Ling type for the final month. All without blowing the wage cap. You'd gain 21 days of wages from each player on IR to spend elsewhere. It's a hugely risky "technicality" to circumvent the wage cap but not unprecedented. On paper you've broken the cap but not in actual wages. Again this is speculation based on my own experience playing a different sport but I can't see the value in any other way of the other players aren't being brought in?

Domingue will likely be gone for at least a month, I'd expect. Surely time for some cover now?

I can see an advantage, to Mr Black anyway. You place players on IR so that insurance (if it exists) pays their wages and then you don’t bring in either a 14th import or any other replacement players. You then tell your director of hockey to tell the fans the market is bare, the right players weren’t available and the fans all fall for it. Hey presto...more profit for Mr Black !

The IIHF couldn't even find insurance for NHL players during the upcoming Olympics it just doesn't exist, so they are taking the liability themselves now to make it happen, yet apparently the EIHL managed to find this insurance and is now being used as a money saving scheme for Neil Black...
I'm no big Neil Black supporter but my word he must get a laugh reading the conspiracy theories on here at times.

They have created a $5 million pool to cover any games missed in the NHL as a result of any injuries picked up at the Olympics plus covering all players travel costs on top of that, so no actually. They could have afforded insurance, there was just no insurance provider who does this.

In fairness to Iggy & Pidge, if you remove a possible financial benefit, our use of IR becomes ever more bizarre.
In entirely unrelated news, I see Sheffield's quickfire replacement pickup Matias Sointu is now 7+3 from 6 games...
