www.panthers.co.uk/home/210818-clarkepizzoGood news that we’ve been able to sign another young Brit. It’s a shame that the roster rules aren’t the same as in previous years, but hopefully he will get plenty of ice time in the NIHL and learns a lot whilst training with the Panthers. It’s great to see players who have grown up supporting the club get the chance to play for them.

Not quite sure why they burried the Jack Hopkins news in there. Basically also on a 2 way deal, worded strangely though. I'm lead to believe he is a top, top prospect. I think him involved with Panthers is far more exciting than Clarke-Pizzo. Nothing against Morgan at all. Hope he comes good. I'm guessing he gets the headline based on his name though.
Not sure how pleased the Lions will be to lose Hopkins this way.

I think they'll probably be chuffed for him that he gets playing time at a higher level AND to train at the Panthers. A great combo for his development.

doesn't actually say he is on a 2 way, just he will train here with Panthers

That's why I avoided saying he was a 2-way. Just that he has the opportunity to get double the training he would if he was just at Telford. I doubt he's ready for the EIHL yet anyway, especially as he appears to be a goalscorer and I think giving him the odd shift on a shutdown/grind role wouldn't help his development.

In my opinion he is absolutely the best British under 18 prospect. You only have to look at his stats on Elite Prospects: www.eliteprospects.com/player/303122/jack-hopkinsHere's Telford's news story on the 2 way - www.telfordtigers.net/tigers-snare-hopkins-from-panthers/

While obviously at NIHL 1N level, he was only a couple of points behind the Lions import (I assumed he counted as an import) Vladimir Luka. While Luka was 39, he was a point a game player in the tier where Jack is now going to and only 2 years ago was scoring at the rate of Jann Laakonen of the Blaze in the Polish top division. Could be some real potential based on his numbers. Interesting that the Telford article does call it a 2-way deal. I've highlighted why I don't think it likely he'd be considered for Panthers in the next 12 months, so maybe that's why Panthers aren't calling it a 2-way. Either way it's good he's being looked at and if he gets to train with the team, theres always a chance he can earn a spot if the opportunity or space arises.

Nah, wouldn't count on EP I'm afraid for accuracy. They (club) must be looking at this whoever writes this stuff. Remember recently they got Paul O'Higgins stats wildly wrong. Randall played 856 games over 17 seasons , 326 goals and 517 assists for 843 points taking 518 pims David played 786 games over 14 seasons, 381 goals and 371 assists for 752 points taking 900 pims Not even close for a recount.

And to further prove Elite Prospects inaccuracy in this instance, Jaroslav Sevcik who played I think 7 games (for 19 points) as a temporary injury replacement for Steve Moria is not included on said same list (games played)

He did indeed.... one of my all time favourite Panthers players. His time with us was all too brief. Though I'm sure he was held scoreless once.... against Cardiff. Amazing at times the useless inormation that sticks in the memory.....

I’d forgotten he briefly played in the NHL.

Not the fittest of players, nor the toughest - but not scared of anyone. Is another of my favourite players. I still have my Zukiwsky replica top somewhere.... Zukiwsky vs Rubachuk sticks in the memory from the old barn... though not really a true fight.

sorry for the poor spelling... Doh!!! Not a bother, we knew who you meant! I'd wager the vast majority of hockey fans love players like him. Heart and soul, 101% effort, never take a shift off, scared of nothing and no-one. See also Graeme Garden, Darcy Loewen, Joel Poirier etc.

The move for Jack Hopkins had to come and Matt Bradbury is aware of him and the prospect of other players who impressed during the recent cup series being the targets of a number of clubs. There are other players who have not quite reached the standard required to be on the radar who will show over the next couple of seasons. The Nottingham Junior Club’s development programme continues at a pace. The Nottingham Lions may possibly not reach the heights, eg winning the conference as the development of players takes priority over silverware. The team work on a tight budget with players paying to play and an unremunerated coaching staff and sometime with little in the way of recognition for the contribution that the junior section provides, but they turn up nevertheless purely out of their love for the game and to provide hopefully a continuous conveyor belt for some future top British talent. As always the players that move on go with the best wishes of all those that have been involved in player development here in Nottingham.

A certain (can't even mention his name, as it haunts most) someone, very anti-Elite on THF suggests in their thread that Nottingham do nothing to aid bringing players on. I didn't even try to reply...not yet anyway.

I must admit that I do not follow comments on THF so rather lost on this one. Nottingham have produced some outstanding players over the years with as I said more certainly in the pipeline. With more support the junior systems throughout the country could produce more Elite quality players which in theory could reduce some of the concerns regarding the reports of Brit players wage demands. As a number may know my particular interest hockey wise is the Nottingham Lions with no great interest in Elite hockey. I am so pleased to see the youngsters come through with the hope they make the Elite League standard one day. There are certainly number of Nottingham trained players around the lower leagues and play at a reasonable standard although not making the breakthrough to the top level.
