It's not an excuse it's a global crisis we are in. If Herr doesn't want to fly abroad for a few months then fair enough. I doubt teams will retain huge cores of their squads now Time will tell.... It sure will and that time is ages away..

Don’t forget though, that without playing hockey what expenses has an EIHL team actually got ? No rink hire,no player wages,no flights and no housing etc etc,all they’ve got to pay out are the costs of keeping the office ticking over. Which in the case of the smaller teams is probably next to nowt. Still when it does start again it’ll no doubt be used as a great excuse for them to save money and have a season of poor quality budget restricted hockey.......but I bet the ticket prices won’t reduce though !

Very satisfied with the season as soon as they changed direction and brought in the North American style again. Loved Herr and he was the key. Without Herr or a lowering of import numbers and/or quality then it’s done for me. Don't be surprised if Herr stays stateside so soon after this pandemic and I doubt it would be without Panthers efforts to retain him.. this goes for alot of players around the league I can see a lot of changed being made to peoples lives even if it is something back to normal by then but without a league that's worth watching there are many other more important things to be doing on a Saturday night. Even if we have an all clear by next season I don't think it's realistic to be putting 5000+ people into an indoor arena anyway for a long time yet unless they come up with a miracle cure.

If all teams have to have lower class players why worry. It don't matter to the majority of fans, as long as the players are giving there all and there is plenty of action on the ice.In fact it might turn out a blessing in disguise.

Would you expect to pay the same money to watch football if it were Mansfield v Macclesfield as you would to watch Forest v Derby ?

If it comes back in some form for a 20/21 season, I think people will just be happy it's survived and is continuing. They'll likely forgive a few dodgy rosters for that first season.
Sounds like worrying about something that hasn't happened though, plenty of real things to worry about at the moment.
On the actual topic, I can only really comment as an outsider, but seems that Doucet corrected his own mistakes in recruitment early on (hopefully learned the lessons of that), and we ended up with a team as good as any other in the league. A slightly better start and we'd probably be bemoaning a chance of a championship lost.
Brit pack is in a bit of a spot, would only take Perlini not wanting to come back to be in fairly dire straits, especially with import numbers dropping.

As many of the fans are happy clappers who see it as much of a social gathering as to what's occuring on the slippy wet shiny stuff out in front of them they wouldn't give two hoots.
Steeler games would still sell out if a line of four traffic cones & Jon Rheault were out there.

Sad but true.. you defo wont be seeing me at the arena watching NIHL standard stuff at 20 quid a pop! This magic weekend garbage has the makings of being something tragic.. most teams will have new players theyll be no rivalry/no previous history, the quality could be dreadful.. And yes it may work with Rugby league, but their teams stay the same mostly from one year to the next I think I will pass on that.

It don't matter to the majority of fans, as long as the players are giving there all and there is plenty of action on the ice.In fact it might turn out a blessing in disguise. To be honest and this might be pure nostalgia but I did like my hockey better when the likes of hunt, waghorn, trickett etc (local lads who really did give their all for the team) and a few what I thought at the time exceptional imports the likes of odelein, adey, premak, bishop and my fave lambert. If we can get back to even a flavour of getting more local lads benefitting from the "high" quality imports leading the way then it can only be for the betterment of the league due to reduced costs. Yes, the best hockey we have seen in England was the ISL and it would be great to watch a predominantly import league again (not that we saw much of the quality in Nottingham anyway) but the spending from some clubs got way out of hand and out of all proportion to any likely return they were going to see, so going to a Sheffield club mentality when running the league of phoenix-like going bust and rising with a new one from the ashes is not going to work long term. Forcing teams to implement junior development schemes the likes of in the 80-90s at Nottingham which produced gems as above (yes I know waggy was brought in but he got a lot better in Nottm) and the likes of tait, perkins, parker, rippingale, weber, Rhodes etc etc in Nottingham the list seemed to be endless. Also it would have the benefit of teams being cheaper meaning imports should be a better quality and the likes of Sheffield would not be just able to buy the cream and not invest in their local lads. Only issue I really have with this approach is if the likes of Cardiff and Sheffield etc abuse this with all teams cutting their cloth on imports they don't and bring in imports head and shoulders above rest of league and then buying in the better brits from other clubs as experienced has shown they have in the past. Otherwise its a pointless league, league challenges always have been better in the past when there is parity between as many clubs as possible and a challenge has been made right till the end of the season rather than one or two clubs running away with it.... All the above imho obviously...

Going slightly away from the original thread but following on from the above, I also enjoyed seeing those names, and they didnt look out of place at the start of the Superleague era. As time went on our Britpack dwindled until only Weber was left. Looking at occasional videos on line I feel there are very few Brits in the NIHL who could make the step up to an import league. So the standard would need to be lower, more like the old 3 imports level. Which i wouldn't want to see again. So when / if IH starts again there has to be some big decisions made.
