But they've only just realised trying to start a shortened season could damage the EIHL in the long term.. I'm sure I said they would be the case over 6 Months ago! Are they completely clueless ??
Starting in September is a pipe dream as well with how things are currently

Taking loans to start a season would be damaging, fatal probably, they'd never get a loan cleared. Grants might have been different.
As I understand it, the form support would take wasn't known immediately.
They should probably be praised for realising their own hand-to-mouth existence and not taking the loan option.

They'd never have been paid back . Grants may have been acceptable but only in the short term

You don’t get to be chairman of Barclays Bank by not doing your homework. PMSL 🤣🤣

It didn't take the government long to figure out there is very little elite about the EIHL. PUIAB comes to mind.

Just read it! Classic because of that I'm highly delighted the EIHL didn't get a penny..😂
The last paragraph is a belter .. "it's been a while since the Steelers were in debt"

Surely no one can be surprised by this? The EIHL have 6 months to see what form next season can be.

Haha you couldn’t make this stuff up. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Very much one side of the story on show. Eludes to the forms (As I mentioned here early/mid Jan) but fails to mention missing the original deadline, making a counter offer for preference to grants at a lower value which was then countered with the loans only & not having the approval of all five English clubs which was an expected stipulation. Other than that, nice article.

Yup which leads me to say which I also said before this pandemic will end up setting this league back years .. it will take time to build up the quality again

Yup which leads me to say which I also said before this pandemic will end up setting this league back years .. it will take time to build up the quality again I would think it would put the league in real danger as I and many others have no intention in lower level hockey. With a lot of teams seeing lower attendances already in the run-up to the pandemic I see this as a big danger to a sport that already struggles. I know some people need a "hockey fix" and some like to try to weirdly cosy up to the players but for those who go because of the sport and the chance that we are getting closer to some of the continental teams a drop in standard just to kill a night out isn't for me at all.

Exactly my thoughts. It's hard for me to watch this standard as it is never mind diluting it when more . Yup this will but those who like to be pally pally with the players and watch any old 'hockey fix' lol

thought they were gonna get £4 million quid for that Blacky says they weren't after that much to run this mini-event. it was obvious to the average bloke accepting loans would have been a disasteous move! They'd never have been paid back . Grants may have been acceptable but only in the short term So for a short format event, worth going after those grants then? They didn't materialise, so it won't happen. I know it's the usual way to bemoan everything that ever happens in the EIHL, but they seem to have acted pretty sensibly to me. It didn't take the government long to figure out there is very little elite about the EIHL. Shame one of them doesn't have the right school tie, would've got billions.

Yup this will but those who like to be pally pally with the players and watch any old 'hockey fix' lol There is obviously still going to be social distancing inside arenas/rinks in the autumn at the very least and that’s going to do far more than cut capacities in half plus there are going to be a lot of people still not prepared to be inside a building with any number of people plus masks etc. On top of that a lot will have just walked away from the sport as loads have every year and with social distancing how’s it even going to work with those outside of their families etc? Sit by yourself in a mask for a couple of hours once or twice a week? Then there is some rink teams which I would guess would be limited to crowds in just hundreds with distancing? No away fans? Team budgets will be cut to sub EPL levels. At least four teams would be in trouble straight away unless they are going to ice part timers. The sums just don’t add up for me and putting hope that players will be happy to play for a big cut in wages is just a fairy tale so they can be blamed when a load of kids and ‘real’ old has beens get wheeled out next winter. The EIHL is in about the worst possible place I think unless there is big changes in the next few months.

Spot on mate.. there isn't a solution for this league to operate during a pandemic no matter what Smith and black try and conjure up!! Unfortunately the league has lots of gullible fans taking in every word!

How on earth was 4 teams based in 2 rinks all locked down in a bubble for 3 months ever going to work. For one these are hockey players, they’d be breaking the rules inside a fortnight and secondly it would be incredibly boring to watch the same couple of teams every week. Absolutely bonkers ! 🙄

Spot on mate.. there isn't a solution for this league to operate during a pandemic no matter what Smith and black try and conjure up!! Unfortunately the league has lots of gullible fans taking in every word! What are people being gullible about? Why is wanting the league to survive so terrible to you? No one's buying tickets are they, it's ok to hope for the best once in a while. How on earth was 4 teams based in 2 rinks all locked down in a bubble for 3 months ever going to work. For one these are hockey players, they’d be breaking the rules inside a fortnight and secondly it would be incredibly boring to watch the same couple of teams every week.
