AHL have pencilled in a restart for December but given the US/Canada border situation and COVID in general, they are being ambitious. ECHL won't start prior to AHL starting. There will be a lot of Hockey players around the world twiddling their thumbs for a while.
As we are seeing with MLB, sport in NA outside of a bubble scenario(NHL, NBA and MLS) is going to be a real difficult thing to do safely with teams having outbreaks, games being postponed. All of this just a week in to their restart.
There was a Baseball player a few weeks ago came out saying that sport should be the reward of a functioning society, it shouldn't just be expected no matter the situation. Even if the EIHL can get a league started in the next year, is it really responsible to do so?

There is an interview with Neil Black on the BBC Nottingham Sport Facebook page talking about his confidence of the survival of the league and the Panthers

Can the ECHL work financially without fans in attendance?

Canada/US border still remains closed and strong popular opinion in Canada is that people want that to remain closed which would make the AHL/ECHL unworkable, unless they wanted to run US and Canadian Conferences to navigate it. Potentially if the US can address it's terrible COVID record that could change before December but who knows what the next few month's will bring.
As Jord has alluded to, the financial impact on the ECHL of COVID will be huge. No crowds, advertising income will be significantly reduced and there is not really a TV deal capable of funding that league. The same goes for the AHL too to a lesser extent. Eyes will be on the NHL to see how they will help support these two leagues, if at all.
OHL announced a return in December too, though. No border issues and in a province that is handling the virus relatively well. Feel more positive about that league's chances, which is great news for Liam Kirk.

Seems like wishful thinking again to me, rife for the sport in general.
What are the KHL & SHL plans? They would have much more financial mileage.

KHL are already playing preseason games, there were some concerns about crossing borders but I believe the plan B was for non-Russian teams to be temporarily based in Russia if necessary.
SHL aiming for a 19th September start to the regular season.
Liiga have started their pre-season too, I don't know what crowd restrictions are in place but there were only 658 at the first game. The regular season starts 1st October

Interesting... I can see the very best EIHL players already signed up or not yet signed up maybe attracting better more substantial offers in the coming weeks then.

Steve King genuinely believes the season could start up this year and reckons if the EIHL doesn't start up alot of other league's around Europe won't either lol.
And says he's not holding his players to ransom either..

Can the ECHL work financially without fans in attendance? No chance the ECHL teams are owned by individuals, so there’s no chance of that ,AHL is a different proposition, these are farm teams of NHL teams with players moving back and forth.

He said it in the Dandy.. i mean Inferno 😆 Good to see you like reading Comics as do I, mind you it sucks having a owner that talks constantly to it’s fans, and has a nasty habit of keeping them up to date on hockey matters. Some people your damned if you do, and your damned if you don’t, very fickle.

The most telling sign for the league getting going will be if Panthers & Giants actually get their fingers out & sign some players. There's no way Panthers are doing this unless some pretty strong signals of a go ahead are in place.

Sounds to me from Blacks interview that they aren’t chancing wasting any money whatsoever until something is concrete and if the EIHL doesn’t start on the now planned Dec 5/6th then it won’t start at all.
